“Slow Burn” is Kacey just saying how she’s not in any rush in life in general. I love it because it kind of encapsulates Kacey’s entire vibe— she’s just kind of along for the ride, wherever the adventure takes her, unstressed about keeping up with the Joneses. I love that y’all don’t know what to call it genre-wise that’s the opening track to the Golden Hour album, which as an album kind of eschews the idea of genre after her second album, Pageant Material, was super mainstream country western (“Biscuits” and “Dimestore Cowgirl” and the title track being perfect examples). So when Golden Hour starts out with “Slow Burn,” it is such a perfect statement and way to set the tone, because the album is SO vibey and not worried about sticking to a formula. I love Kacey because she’s never made the same album twice - critics and audiences spent her first 4 albums trying to pin down what to expect from her and she kept hammering home something she said early on in her career - “I don’t care whether a song is country or not country. I care whether the song is good or not good.”

I’m only part way through Cher but I am so excited you get to hear her! She was part of a duo with her husband (at the time) and they had their own TV show in a 1970s version of AGT (“Sonny & Cher”). She went solo after their divorce & became a living icon especially for LGBTQIA. She is amazing. And I love her movies too. She’s a great human.

I would HIGHLY recommend reviewing the whole album Golden Hour by Kacey Musgraves! It won the Grammy for album of the year in 2019 and it’s an album a lot of people slept on, but once she won the Grammy people realized just how great it is. The lyrics and her voice are still so underrated

And sang at the top of my lungs along with her. I will never forget it. A month later she canceled the rest of her tour due to her illness, then Covid hit. And I doubt she will ever tour again.
