Also, wanted to add — just in case if you do decide to watch The Early Spring — remember that after each episode ends, there are always 5–6 shots (2–3 of the current episode and 2–3 of the next one, but they don’t spoil much), and then there’s an epilogue as an extra scene, which would be a pity to miss. I almost missed it when I watched episode 1, because wanted to avoid spoilers, and found it only by accident, because wanted to hear the outro song.

I loved Melody of Golden Age.

A very long new historical C-drama “Against the Current” (47 episodes) started yesterday. I’ve seen only 3 episodes so far (will watch the next 3 right now), but each of them leaves an impression for different reasons, and everything I’ve seen so far looks very promising for an amazing story. The FL is the same one you’ve already seen in Go Ahead (Tan Songyun), but I couldn’t find any of the ML’s (Liu Xueyi) works in your catalogue. This is just to let you know there’s a new drama that many people have their attention on right now, just in case you’re interested and if you have time, ofc.

Against the Current is imo the best show this year so far. It has a very similar feel to Story of Minglan, so a strong recommend from me

In the first 7 episodes I have seen so far, I absolutely love it! And I agree, this might be the best one I have watched this year. Everything, starting from production quality to acting, is outstanding, and the mix of emotions each episode gives is amazing. Of course, it’s just the beginning and there are 40 more episodes to go. Most often, the beginning is amazing, but the middle and even the end part can fall short of the expectations the beginning has created.

12 episodes in, and it’s so good. If they can keep it up, this might be the best cdrama I watched in the last few years. Just phenomenal!

17 episodes in and I am in awe of “Against the Current”. Everything in this drama is perfection, and even if the plot moves a bit slowly, it is not boring at all. Every episode gives us many emotions, intrigue, and suspense. The cast does their work brilliantly, the script seems flawless so far, and the production is excellent. I know I am praising this a lot, but that’s how I feel about it so far. If they continue this way, it could very easily become my favourite C-drama of the year!

Episode 18 is even more brilliant. The director and all the cast really understand their jobs.

Now how can I make Banno watch the first ep because that’s all he needs to get hooked haha

We can always try to do that through nominations. But I will also tell him my thoughts here again as the drama progresses, and maybe if he has free time by then, he will decide to try it. It really is an outstanding drama. And the story and everything just keeps getting better.

I’m here again begging everyone to watch Against The Current because it’s far and away the best drama this year. It’s realistic, thoughtful, and incredibly attentive to even the smallest details, with a good script, amazing directing, and a fantastic cast that makes every character come across as real and interesting. It’s not your typical romance-centred drama. The pacing is definitely on the slower side, but somehow it never gets boring, and every scene feels purposeful.
