Didn't know Zhao Ling could be so clueless when it comes to love! He shouldn't take Tingyun's love for granted, but just show her how much he loves her. I was very relieved they ended the "Miss Wu becoming Zhao Ling's concubine" plot very quickly. Also, I did love that Tingyun has become a role model for Miss Wu, and fingers crossed she succeeds in living her life for herself and gets out of the shackles Madam Wu is keeping her in. And I agree about the father. He is despicable. Him not allowing them to marry is probably just a tantrum he's trying to pull to spite them for not giving him that official post he wants so much.

During the five years Zhao Ling and Tingyun were apart, he experienced the battlefield and death. He desperately wanted more power to protect the people around him, but the changes caused by that desire also made him unsure whether Tingyun could still accept him. That’s why when Young Master Yu asked, “I wonder if Tingyun still likes the current you,” he couldn’t confidently argue back, because deep down, he also had a strong sense of insecurity. After leaving the battlefield, Zhao Ling continued taking on dangerous tasks for the Emperor. So, in Miss Wu’s case, he only saw it as a potential danger that could offend both sides of salt merchants and ruin the task, not something related to romance, which is why he didn’t understand Tingyun’s feelings at first. Then, when Tingyun admitted she was jealous but only wanted a peaceful life, Zhao Ling’s insecurity was triggered again. He started to question himself whether she still wanted to share his dangerous life—even if she still loved him. That’s why he only sent the sheep as a gesture but not directly coming back as usual. Without clear reassurance from Tingyun, he is not confident about the future as well.
