In this video, we react to the FINALE of Fellow Travelers, "Make It Easy".

Bradam is wrapping up this devastating, and important, queer drama. A HIGHLY requested show, we are watching Fellow Travelers. We have been told to expect all the drama– lots of emotions, sex, passion and the like.

"Fellow Travelers" is a Showtime miniseries based on Thomas Mallon's novel, chronicling the tumultuous romance between Hawkins Fuller (Matt Bomer), a charismatic State Department official, and Timothy Laughlin (Jonathan Bailey), a young, religious man, navigating the McCarthy era and beyond, facing political persecution and personal struggles. 👔🤫

The moment between Marcus and Jerome will never fail to nearly end my life. It’s so well-acted, it’s such an important part of the story. I’m so glad y’all reacted to this series! Sending love to you both! 🩷

What a wonderful, HEARTwrenching moment. Can’t imagine how painful those conversations were to people. 💕

Frances

I balled my eyes out in the end. It’s such a great show!!!

And the fact Tim told Hawk not to write, and he did. Then Hawk told Tim not to write, and he did with “beyond measure”. It’s just….UGH.

This is just so devastating. I was compelled to watch your reaction but this just tears me apart. The 80s were so scary that I married a very inexperienced man just to feel safe. We have been together for 38 years. But it isn't my truth.

Steven Jump

This is a very emotional series. I was in my teens in the 80's and realizing I was gay when AIDS hit. It had me so scared that I didn't go "all the way" with a guy til my late 20's. I did not have my first boyfriend at until I was 31. Anyway, if you want to see Matt Bomer in a totally different role, watch the sitcom Mid-Century Modern. He is one of 3 lifelong friends living in a house in Palm Springs. It's been called the gay Golden Girls (80's sitcom beloved by gay men of a certain age). I don't think the gay storyline in Skam until the 3rd season, but i could be wrong.

On societal and political level, extremely important and educational show. "Fun" way to learn the history. On an individual and personal level, equally important and educational.... live your truth or otherwise you have a high risk of ultimately dying with regrets and with the realization of how much you missed.

Amanda Hill

I know, I’m sorry. Apparently I love pain.

Oof, got teary eyed again even though I've already seen the finale. Ending the show on the memorial quilt was so poignant ❤️ Such an incredible show. The only let down to me was how fast the lesbian storyline was checked off. Would've been nice if they had given it more depth but I understand that when producing a show like this you're given limited time to tell your story and you have to set priorities. Would love to see more shows like this being made in the future, I don't think there's currently any other historical queer story as well produced as Fellow Travelers. Very excited for you guys to experience SKAM now :) It's gonna be a total mood shift. Sure it has its fair share of drama but compared to Fellow Travelers it's gonna be a total piece of cake haha

this is the 4th time i've watched this series and i still bawled through nearly the entire finale... the acting is just so spot on, the story is so heartbreaking and even though its a tough watch i think its one of the most beautiful pieces of queer television ever made so THANK YOU for putting yourselves through that <3

Dennis Verner

Tough as I remembered. Better with you guys.

Diego Rodriguez

Can y’all watch interview with the vampire next?

Richard Collette

Being my age the 80s was a nightmare to live through but I did live and I 'm grateful for that. I've lost friends to this horrible disease and seeing it in real time. you don't forget. There's so much I could wright here but honestly I don't have it in me anymore. This series was so well done I got transported back and seeing people die of this ignored disease . it wasn't only the gay community but people who had tainted blood transfusion ,hemophiliac were targets. The people that stood up for the gay community were fearless. Elizabeth Taylor, Elton John, and at Bill Clinton inauguration Michal Jackson spoke to President Clinton directly pleading for more money to find a cure. All heroes and i can't believe I'm tearing up.

This series hits so hard every time I see it. I am so glad I was able to rewatch the full finale with you guys!

Just to clarify something from back in Episode 5. The reason Senator Smith killed himself was that if he did, his side (he's either a Democrat or a left-wing Republican) would replace him with one of their own until the next election, when the seat would probably remain in their hands because there had been no scandal.

Lizziebelle

Sorry, hit Enter too soon. If he hadn't killed himself and just resigned, the threat was that the McCarthyites, who had the arrest record, would make sure he was replaced by one of them (by threatening to his side to expose the record). You saw how evil McCarthy and Cohn were: he thought it was worth his life to keep them out of power, and they did collapse shortly afterwards. Of course he was depressed about what had happened with Leonard, but not letting McCarthy get a stronger grip on power was his prime motive.

Bradam Reacts

I agree!! I was surprised what they did with Caroline and Mary's characters - granted there was so much to already work with. I missed my Mary for like the whole back half and was sad to see that Caroline married. It makes sense and is the hard hitting truth but I wanted more for my girls!

Dionne Lakey

The survivors guilt from Marcus and Hawk expressed when Marcus calls Hawk bulletproof in this episode because both he and Hawk are HIV free but young Jerome and young Tim caught this nasty disease, is heartbreaking. No one deserved the disease but especially not these guys with such vibrant lives to live, or as Marcus calls Jerome - innocents. This show came out over AIDS day, the 1st December and really had me thinking deeply about that time and the times since.

Jago BC

Not familiar with SKAM, but if you haven't watched it, Looking is worth a look if only for Murray Bartlett!

annanas

Can’t wait to watch SKAM again but kind of jelous you get to watch it for the first time 🥹

Haylee

looking is sooo good!

Kat

I was bawling!! What a beautiful show. I can only image what it was like to actually live through that and they depicted the times so well. You both held yourselves together well in the finale - I was a mess!

Jeffrey Edwards

I was a nurse during AIDS crisis. I was only nurse who would care for guys. Others were afraid to do it. I just couldn’t let them die alone. How I didn’t get it I just don’t know. Fire Island was my hangout. Anyhow you should react to The Normal Heart on HBO. It is a beautiful film about the epidemic and gay rights. Stars Matt Bomer, Mark Ruffalo and Julia Roberts

Tara

I am finally going to watch this. I don’t want to but I need to so I can move on to other shows 🥺💔

Tara

Sobbed. But it’s over. Thank you for sharing your reactions to this show with us. It really is such an important part of history and it’s beautifully told by Matt and Jonathan ❤️

Mark Edwards

Rewatching this series reinforced my feeling that the characters, especially Hawk and Marcus, are victims of their times and circumstances. Judging them and their actions using contemporary standards misses the point. The finale drives that home. I’m a 1962 baby so am too young for firsthand experience with McCarthyism, the Lavender Scare, Vietnam protests, or extreme gay hedonism of the 70s. However I was just taking baby steps out of the closet when AIDS was recognized. Will never forget the cold terror I felt reading about what was termed contagious cancer among gay men (the AIDS term and identification of HIV would come later) mere days after my first full-on sex with my first boyfriend. Can definitely relate to Marcus’s been to too many funerals line. Can’t watch the end scenes at the Quilt without bawling because I was there many times. Turning a corner and coming upon a panel for family/friend/colleague/acquaintance is devastating. Still have difficulty understanding how both my husband and I remained negative. Three suggestions for essential gay heritage viewing if you haven’t seen them. It’s A Sin on HBO Max. The Netflix documentary El Dorado, Everything The Nazis Hate. And the classic The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert for disco-loving Bradley, particularly since a sequel is supposedly in the works.

I binge watched your reaction here. This series really tugs on all your emotions. I also loved the way time bounced back and forth. It was hard to follow at first, but once it was expected it made perfect sense. I mentioned in the new chat you just created that you should do Longtime Companion for another look at the 1980's crisis. It sheds some more light on the struggles of our community and how we got here. Also, along these lines, since it was in the series, another is Milk. It's a great representation of Harvey Milk and SF. I can't thank you guys enough for your great reactions. They are so genuine and heartfelt. /Mitch
