Loved it. I cannot wait until you get all the way through season two, lol. Don't give up on the brat prince just yet. He's just... a lot.

Steven Jump

Remember that this is being told from Louis perspective. He has proven to not be a reliable storyteller. Season 1 and 2 are based on the 1st book. Season 3 is based on the 2nd book The Vampire Lestat. Which tells his life story before and after becoming a vampire. So don't sentence Lestat just yet. Also, neither Louis or Claudia are saints or completely innocent.

DC

You hit the nail on the head with the cycle of loneliness with vampires, which I think was at the heart of what Anne Rice was going for. Lestat is certainly the most toxic. He's over a hundred years old with no boundaries and no accountability. His downfall was feeling he had found a soulmate in Louis, not getting that Louis wouldn't just abandon humanity and embrace the vampire lifestyle that Lestat lived. Loneliness and humanity led Louis to become obsessed with saving and taking care of Claudia. Lestat & Louis can't be what each other wants. Also, Lestat knows he didn't "kill" Louis with his actions in this episode. I don't think he could do it anyway because he does still have an unwavering obsession with him.

Great reaction! I'm relieved that you didn't completely vilify Lestat. Keep in mind the unreliable narrator ...

ondraya

Reminder that an unreliable narrator does not mean what we witness didn't happen or isn't true at all. A lot of people will bring that up to absolve Lestat of his many many mistakes and blatant abuse because they love him so much. And I think its a very misleading and disingenuous thing to do. It's important to remember that EVERYONE'S perspective is biased and unreliable by nature of it being their own perspective. And the fact that this story takes place over such long periods of times. There is no such thing as a perfect victim. Believe me, everyone will make plenty of toxic choices without needing to justify or excuse anything anything lol This is a tough episode, but man are they all acting their asses off!

First, I fucking hate Claudia's way too broadly Southern, not at all Louisianan accent when she says "Come with meh Louis". Like seriously, that's almost Appalachian "meh"? I can deal with the rest, but this one is like, girl get you a dialect coach! Vampires making other vampires is so weird, and people make a lot of different metaphors about it. Is it more like a sexually transgressive act, or is it like a rebirth? For that matter, no one asks to be born either, none of us ever had the chance to turn it down. It's interesting to me when you both talk about Lestat made Louis and Louis (by proxy) had Claudia made for the same reason. Why do people have kids? I mean, sure, they may not be selfish parents in the long term, but their first reasons are. They want to be a parent, they want to have a child with thier parner. They've "always wanted to be a mom" etc. Only adoption or fostering is parenting born of selflessness from the earliest point of decision. It's just an added point to consider along with the trauma that most of them (like in all vampire genre fiction) claim from their turnings. Agreed with your conclusions. Lestat is toxic AF, but Sam Reid just fucking kills this performance and you cannot take your eyes off of him, even when he's dragging someone with his fingers hooked under their chin digging into their throat.

!!! it really bothers me when ppl completely try to discredit louis and claudias versions of events and act like theyre just straight up lying. like you said, EVERYONE is an unreliable narrator. and the way ppl bring like to bring up the whole unreliable narrator thing when talking ab this ep in particular it rlly leaves a bad taste in my mouth, it comes across very victim blame-y sometimes imo

Mya

And it also kinda goes into spoiler territory a lot of the times for anyone that doesn’t take things at face value imo. Like it’s not actually a spoiler but it’s very leading.

Alexandra Trojanowski

Y’all let the show tale seduce them first! Y’all jumping in line trying to make out with them between your thoughts on the show and the show itself.

Alexandra Trojanowski

Personally I wouldn’t want to relive the show through reactors getting tips from other people like me who already saw it. Leave them to draw thier own conclusions on things to keep in mind.

Alexandra Trojanowski

This so damned disappointing how many of y’all can’t seem to let them take an unguided tour of the show.

ondraya

Very much so!

ondraya

Exactly! People are jumping waaay ahead.

Nathan Quintana

The double head tilt after “all vampires are born out of trauma” killlllled me

I believe Louis didn't fight back and he should have. It's his responsibility to fight and keep his child safe

Marina

I loved Bailey Bass as Claudia but that line delivery stuck out to me too, even as a non-American

Mcryy

I like the insight at the beginning about last episode! As for this episode in general it’s a tough one to watch for multiple reasons. The show has a way of making things seem so domestic (I think mainly due to Louis humanistic-like pov) that when you’re reminded that these are vampires and what they’re capable of it comes as a shock and makes the horror of it more intense. I hope you don’t get spoiled for future episodes cause from this episode on viewers get a little spoiley.

Mcryy

Also love the dynamic of both your reactions! Makes the discussion fun and I like the push and pull of opinions!

VV

Catching up on these with you guys so I am ready for s3. Fun fact: remember when Daniel compares Claudia to Charles Manson and says even Charlie Manson wrote a few nice songs. Well, that's true, Charles Manson did record some songs... he thought he would be this famous singer before starting his cult. And the end credit song was actually one of Charles Manson's songs.

Aaron Bland

I'd be pretty confident betting that in some quiet, unexpected, moment in the days following this recording Bradley *definitely* grabbed Adam under the jaw; I don't mean in a malicious way, I'm not even implying anything dirty, just out of that intrusive curiosity of whether or not it was as good a handhold as it looked! Haha
