Eliza

When you liked a post at the Skam website, when this aired, you clicked a grey heart. After the last scene of this episode, if you clicked the heart, all the hearts on all the posts turned from red to rainbows. Amazing

Janita

I just checked like 15min before if yall had posted AGHH I'M SO EXCITED

Janita

Also I have to say, the music in Skam, especially this season is peak. Like Nas alone? So good. LYKKE LI?! And then later O Helga Natt, that song always gets me in my feelings and reminds me of christmas nights 🥲

T

So if i remember correctly the creators of the show actually spoke to a lot of students and consulted them for the show. And one of the students said that when he came out to his friend this is how his friend responded.

@baydreamer

Jonas is awesome. (And he's got beautiful eyes.)

Dionne Lakey

This scene with Jonas makes me cry every time I watch it. It's so layered. And loving, and soft and true friendship. The way he gets to the nitty gritty efficiently. He wants to know what's upsetting his friend still, so he grinds down to the important thing. Just, so awesome.

@baydreamer

He thinks his friends will judge him because he's still judging himself. He's projecting his own insecurity onto them.

Dionne Lakey

Scenes like this are why this season (and next season) are iconic. There are individual conversations that transcended the show and make them timeless. Eskild's conversation and now Jonas' are two of them.

Dionne Lakey

Tell the truth, how many of this seasons episodes have you immediately rewatched right after you recorded this? Because, I did, each time.

Randy Parker

I don't know how rewatching this show is tying my stomach up in knots as much as the first time.

JJ

This moment between Isak and Jonas is one of my favourites in the whole series. The awkward silent moments felt real. Jonas making sure he would turn to make eye contact with Isak and without saying it, Jonas let Isak know he is here for him. Just a beautiful moment.

Cat

My favourite coming out scenes in shows are always the ones where the friend/family member doesn't even react. The instant acceptance is so validating. Because it should just be a normal conversation about a crush. I love Jonas sm

Bradam Reacts

the needledrops throughout this WHOLE SHOW. blow my mind.

Cat

Yeah and he also didn't rush him. He just made it clear he was there for him and then let isak tell him when he was ready

Dionne Lakey

Yeah and moves along to what is actually going on between the two of them, so he can see that there are problems in Isak's relationship, which is also what he wants. Besides coming out, he wants someone to help him puzzle out what's happening with Even.

Cattis

Okay, so the silence before you managed to get the first words out debriefing this episode absolutely SENT ME!! My cat threw herself off the bed because of my sudden heehaw. I need to go find her and apologize.

Tyler

Every queer person needs to have a Jonas in their life, if only it were always that easy! That scene always stresses me out and makes me tear up cause I immediately think back to all the times I've had to have that conversation and I can't help all those emotions coming back up from how hard it is the first few times.

EniOslo

The last clip - the conversation between Isak and Jonas will always has a special place in my heart as it was the first clip I saw. It was mentioned on NRK news website, and made me want to check for more. Then I got hooked 😊 . As someone mentioned the coming out scene was based on true stories that the director got from collections of interview. 😊

sean carter

that end scene was so good... I love when u can come out and your bestie can react like that... that's why I loved the 'Love Victor' coming out scene.

EniOslo

The reaction( or lack of reaction😊) from Jonas is just beyond great. And of course Tarjei ( Isak) was brilliant with his facial expression in this scene😊. Good acting from both though. Thanks for your reactions😊😍🙏 I will wait patiently for next ep. 😊

Andy

You remember correctly. Julie Andem, the creator of Skam travelled through Norway for 6 months and interviewed teens all over the place. Fun fact: all these (hook up/party) stories we here from the boys throuout the season (like the one about the guy throwing up in this episode from Jonas) were improvised by the boys, and Tarjei said some were real and some were made up.

Mallory Kay

Bradley what you said about Isak wanting Jonas to “guess” who he likes so he doesn’t have to say the words out loud is extremely relatable and I think this specific coming out experience is SO well portrayed through Isak’s whole story up to now. Like remember how last episode in the locker room when Even said “I told Sonja about us” Isak didn’t even seem nervous, and seemed to just accept the idea that Even would tell people. You can tell he desperately wants to be liberated from the weight of this secret, but the anxiety created by anticipating the actual moment of coming out to someone becomes too overwhelming.

Mallory Kay

Lowkey felt sick watching Isak internally psych himself up to talk to Jonas…..but what this scene really reminded me of is the indescribable RELIEF that comes from coming out to even one person. So beautifully done <3

Jen

I had a kebab in Norway two years ago and I still think about it.

Bradam Reacts

YES. like not having to actually say the words and just having to agree when it’s said IS SO MUCH EASIER. it takes the pressure off of having to actually deliver the news that you’re worried about.

Heidi D

No one’s mentioned this yet I don’t think, but I absolutely love the school doctor! She’s one of the few adults to be featured at all in this series. She always has me laughing!

Eline Mangen

I don't think this is a spoiler, since it was on the skam page as a text message: the very first thing that was posted after the first clip of this episode was a text exchange between Isak and Eskild where Isak said "Just wanted to say sorry. Again" So clearly their conversation had a big impact on our little baby gay ❤️

Louise Mohlin

Scandinavia has long been ahead of the world when it comes to LGBT+ acceptance, still Skam season 3 was groundbreaking when it aired!

lauren ☆

W JONAS, JONAS KING!!!!! this scene made him so attractive to me back in the day lol

Cornelius

I dream about experiencing the level of acceptance that Jonas shows to Isak. That is exactly what I needed as a child and even still haven't really had it at this level

lauren ☆

get ready, next episode is gaggy

Mo

one of my favorite ep. love jonas and that scene so much

scottyG

Yup. 100% the same for me!

scottyG

I love that you think this is a "...calm turning point" 🤣

Michael

I agree with everything that's said so far about this episode, but the scenes that had me laughing out loud were Isak's visit to the non-doctor (the doctor sign on the door that had been up there since 1962 and no one had bothered to remove it was a wonderful touch) where he was forced to listen to the gross conversations between the nurses. His face told us everything, like 'too much information here' and 'I don't want to hear this'. All conveyed to us with just Isak's facial expressions only! He couldn't quite believe the non-doctor when she started speaking. Again Isak's expressions saying 'I don't believe this woman is saying these things to me' and 'is she really qualified to be here giving so-called advice'. But then, as it turned out, her final bit of advice Isak acted upon which turned out to be positive when he effectively came out to Jonas. Brilliant episode I thought.

Michael

I agree with you Janita, but apparently we can't talk AT ALL about any future episodes, otherwise I would have some things to say here.

David

The coming out scene is what happened to one of the boys Julie interviewed. So precious.

j-l

my favorite coming out scene ever, i love it so so much

JustinThyme

Loved this episode and your reaction. I’m glad that Isaak got good advice from the nurse and that he reached out to Jonas and that conversation and non-reaction is do good. Such a great show!

Samuel B

Ohhhh my am I in all the feels at the moment. Needed a second. Whew. Thinking about my favorite coming out scenes. Heartstopper is near and dear to my heart since I didn’t get the chance to have a moment like that with my Mom before she passed so I feel Olivia Coleman’s hug. Also loved when Patrick came out to his parents on Schitts Creek [GO WATCH IT IF YOU HAVENT]; similar anxiety but such warmth and love. But this scene with Jonas is probably my favorite. It’s what the world should be like. No questions. No hesitation. No facial expressions. Just absolutely moving on like it’s the most normal thing in the world (and I might be biased as a gay man, but loving another boy / queer love IS NORMAL). This is just everything. How it should be and how we hope it can be with our loved ones and friends. Doesn’t mean there isn’t an anxiety (dear gay gods may it please be easier for the queer generations to come). Jonas truly being there for his friend, not skipping a beat, being absolutely normal, and even talking about Isaaks boy problems like it was just talking about girl problems. Man I love this. Love love. True definition of a ride or die. Kudos to Skam for treating this with such normalcy and love.

Henrik

If you paid attention, this is exactly what Isak did at the end of season 1. Eva confronts him about why he got between her and Jonas, and he can't get the words out, so he gets her to guess. But she guesses wrong, so he runs with the lie to get out of the situation.

Henrik

This is still the best coming-out scene on TV, ever. It's so good, and exactly how it should be.

ColinW

A favorite episode. Am I the only one who sees Jonas’s calm reaction and “is it me?” as an indicating that Eva might have told Jonas what she saw on Isak’s phone? And her theory that Isak might be crushing on him? In general we are given the impression that Nora and Eva keep this to themselves (with the exception of asking Eskild to look into it), but it’s pretty hard to think a teenager wouldn’t share this with a partner. I don’t really need to know if this happened but I don’t think we know it didn’t……

Olha77

and- she always says the right things for this current moment! Always!

Patrick

Glad we got to the season’s healthy, calm turning point. Nothing climactic or anything. Whew. Seriously though, it really is the best coming-out scene I’ve seen. The smile of relief & contentment on Isak’s face in the final seconds has gotta make ya happy for the little guy, who’s been in such pain & turmoil. And, of course, it makes *everyone* love Jonas even if they had their doubts about him back in s01 (like this season does for 🐍Isak). And Vilde was a hilarious guess. Isak’s reaction was priceless too. So was Isak’s reaction to “Is it me?” — though I do seem to recall a certain forlorn crush on a certain someone back in s01.😢 And y’know how this episode begins with Isak walking through the school courtyard trying to maintain the courage to go back to school after the ep5 parade of horribles? Think back to ep2, when Isak & Even are sitting in the window smoking weed. Isak said that listening to N.W.A. is what you do when you want to walk around feeling tough. Cardamom!🥳

Dionne Lakey

What Henrik says. He does this twice with both his best friends at the time. He wants them to figure it out without him having to tell them.

Olha77

Have you noticed that Isak`s pants at the beginning of the episode were black, but when he enters school and goes to hos locker, he has blue jeans?I didn`t notice that when I saw it 9 years ago. :D

Dionne Lakey

I just know I'm going to rewatch your reaction to this season a few times. You being similar ages to the character (and actor) makes it seem so much realer and your experiences shine through in your body language and words. When people talk about queer people telling queer stories being better because they're richer, this is what they're referring to. You guys are telling a parallel and yet specific story alongside this show.

CG

Love this episode. Jonas ftw. SKAM has a way of feeling so genuine, and the scene with Jonas felt SO real (as I watched for the first time, I was thinking, "In real life, the first thing most guys would think with all the mystery would be. "Is it me?"

Dionne Lakey

8:27 "I need some answers from Even a little bit" should be the subtitle of this season.

Lonely_viking

Favourite coming out scene of all time

Anne27x

need isak to be a girl who's going to be okay x

Dionne Lakey

I have a theory that Jonas had a feeling that Isak was queer and struggling with talking about it ever since that girls dancing scene. First Isak is being weirdly homophobic all of a sudden (out of character), then Even walks up with his hat and that exchange is weird. It's why he knew to ask if it's Even in this scene. He's been wondering about their friendship and why Isak has never talked about it. It's also why I think he doesn't get angry like Mahdi does about all the cancelled plans. He can see that there's something Isak is struggling with and he's hazarded a guess at what that could be. So I think he went into this conversation prepared and knew to be calm to help Isak through it. Which, if you think about it, Eskild did the same thing. With bringing the lavender air freshener gift to Isak. He was waiting for him to come out to him. Both him and Noora gently asking Isak about Even and not pushing. I love all these people around Isak.

Dionne Lakey

Weirdly this coming out scene reminds me of Nick's coming out scene to Charlie. We think of that scene in Heartstopper as their first kiss scene, but the first most important thing that happens, is that Nick comes out to a person for the first time. Some of the lines are the same "is it not a girl" "is it me/would you kiss me". Also, Jonas was the guy that Isak first crushed on before Even, so if Jonas had asked a few months before, the answer would have been yes! Both times, Isak and Nick are so full of tension as they wait for the other person's reaction to every word exchanged. They're both so brave.

Dionne Lakey

There's also a couple of pauses as Jonas leaves space for Isak to expand on his thoughts if he wants to. The scene is so minimalist. Jonas gives Isak casual time, with no expectations but his full attention. He's the best listener.

CG

O Helga Natt... my favorite scene in this series...

Eliza

In the manuscript it says that Jonas knew that Isak did not forget his hat in the cafeteria on Friday because he remembers Isak wearing it on the way home that Friday. It makes him wonder about Even. So yes, Jonas probably had a little hunch.

Michael

@CGinSpace - it absolutely is! In fact that hymn is absolutely CRUCIAL to that particular scene.

Marie Emelia

I would say this is the best coming out scene ever in a tv show/movie. It's so beautiful 🥰 And how it should be, that it's no big deal at all, it's just love ❤️

LM-Entertainment Australia

i reacted the same way after seeing the jonas / isak scene. it was purely amazing. it wasn't overdone - but it gave isak comfort in himself and i assume he knew that he had jonas and as an extension, his other friends in his corner. what i think makes it even more special is that there wasnt really any popular young adult shows with coming out scenes or even dealing with sexuality as open and raw as in this scene. im sure a lot of people saw this episode and were more emboldened to tell a friend or family member about their sexuality and i just hope the majority got a reaction similar to jonas'. definitely more accepting in scandi / nordic countries. love this show and this season - there's some other incredible eps on the way.

Trine

I absolutely agree with you. And I think the Isak Jonas clip (and every SKAM clip I guess) is extra special because of the method director Julie Andem swears by in her work. Doing research with the people who the themes are about. She did loads of in dept interviews with adolescents all over Norway, and supposedly this scene is from real events young people have told her about.

Ebba

since this was so short i think we deserve another video right away

Mallory Kay

You’re so right!! God that scene is stressful, and it’s even tougher to watch because (unlike this scene with Jonas) you don’t get the relief of him actually getting to tell Eva the truth. It’s so awkward and then the tension just never breaks

Sid

And the opening and closing music choices on point again: the first lines we hear in this episode "it's been a long time coming..." after the 10-day mid-season break; and closing with "express yourself"...

Sid

Just in case you didn't know this fun fact: Isak and Jonas have been best friends since Day 1 at kindergarten. Julie Andem apparently said in an interview that she purposely gave Isak and Jonas the surnames Valtersen and Vasquez so that we'd know that they were seated next to each other, alphabetically, on their first day at school....

rose

I didn't know that!! That's absolutely adorable!

Janita

Ahh my bad, we shall wait until that episode then to talk more :D

Louise Mohlin

Well Eva and Jonas weren't together when she and Noora found the gay porn on Isak's phone

Mook

Neeeeeedd the next episode asap 😩🤩

Marie Emelia

Oh yes I've forgot that!! That was so cute ❤🏳️‍🌈

inka

i just subscribed to your patreon because i HAD to see more of you reacting to this season!! i absolutely love you guys and your reactions, very glad to show my support this way 💖 the coming out scene with Jonas has always been one of my favorite scenes in this series. the friendship between these two teenage boys is so beautiful to see, Jonas is the greatest friend to Isak. and the way you can see the weight being lifted off Isak's shoulders after getting this reaction from his best friend, like he could BREATHE again for the first time in a while! such an important thing to happen to Isak at this point :')

Tiina

I'm a bit late to the convo, but this coming out scene is so beautiful! It's the highlight of the season for me. Isak, who has been so tense the whole time, just laughing so happily with Jonas. You can feel how the enormous weight he himself had created in his mind was lifted. I love friendships like this in TV.

G S

I remember trying to come out to my closest friends in high school, when I was 16. I took SO painfully long to get to the point in one conversation that my friend literally interrupted me at one point with: "Look, if you're trying to tell me that you're gay, that's fine. There's nothing you could say that would change our friendship. (DRAMATIC PAUSE) Unless you told me you're suddenly a Republican.... that would be messed up."

JessieC

yes, Jonas is so freaking amazing. <3

PyQio

your friends were so based (and hope they're still your friends, if they're still so cool)
