Welcome to the emotional nuclear bomb that is SKAM Season 3. And now we can say that in that locker room conversation when Isak said "I've decided that my life is better without mentally ill people around me." talking about his mother, Even took it as a rejection of him. And the strangeness you caught with Even saying his parents would have loved Isak in the past tense was because he thought it was over rather than his parents being dead. And then Even went back to Sonja because he didn't see a way forward with Isak. And as a linguistic note - even is the opposite of bipolar.

z

posting this as i’m getting dressed for work is criminal

Sara

Nah I can’t yall posted this when I’m in school so now I gotta wait to watch this😔

Haney

SKAM loves to bring stuff back around and this put's everything into perspective when you go back to the locker room scene, where isak tells Even about his "crazy mom" and that "he doesn't wan't mentally ill people in his life". When you rewatch that clip, you can see how Even tenses and goes silent, something you don't really notice on a first watch. This is what led Even to break things off with Isak and go back to Sonja. Isak very clearly has a prejudice towards mental illness because of his mom, which we see throughout the season like in ep 6 when the doctor recommended Isak to be apart of a youth mental health group and Isak said "There is no way in hell i'm doing that".

AM

Guys I almost spit out my drink at you freezing when the scene cut from the elevator to the hotel room lol

EniOslo

I have to wait to see this. Poor Bradley. Hope you get well soon🙏

eyla.

I just love all the Isak and sana scenes together, their discussions gives so much

Beck Huston

Great reaction. Thank you soooo much for reading the texts out loud. I am so invested in seeing the rest of this show and your reactions to them.

Steven Jump

Thanks for pausing and reading the text messages end enlarging them. It helps to understand what's going on. I watched clips of this storyline before and didn't remember a lot of it, but did remember Even's mental problems. Hope you guys feel better soon.

Vegard Løknes

When Isak is texting his father, the translation says "partner", but the text says "kjæreste" which means the same as boyfriend or girlfriend. The term is gender neutral though, as we don't have a gendered term for that in Norwegian. It literally translates to "dearest". That's why he had to specify the gender, he couldn't just leave it at "I'm taking my boyfriend" as it wouldn't reveal anything.

ema

so the end conversation, i dont think its fair to say even only goes to meet isak when he is at his high high or that he uses the manic episode to let his queerness out when most of their interaction he is actually comfortable in his sexuality and with him saying he feel controlled with sonya, i think he goes to isak because he feel free with him, and thats not to say sonya is bad or anything but there isnt really one way to care for or be a bipolar or manic person. there are different triggers like heightened emotion for the episodes, i feel like sonya saying that their relationship was due to the manic episode was her trying to hurt isak cos there was no point in saying that. great reaction to the episode cant wait for the next one.

Lilly Mari 🇧🇻🌿

I have been waiting for this episode!! Such a shock when I first saw it but makes so much sense looking back on the season. Also, incredible acting from the people playing Even and Isak this season 🙌 Loooove hearing you dissect the episodes at the end of the videos too 🫶

Randy Parker

I don't know - Jonas didn't have the best judgement in the first season even though he was the GOAT in this one (shared with Sana and... another person).

Levi Moura

Omggg this episode!😲😲

Eliza

Being in love can trigger mania... Read that back when this episode came out

IAmom

And to add to this - that is why Even said “they would have loved you” - because he knew then, they couldn’t be together, because he (Even) is mentally ill.

Cattis

What makes this season as well as your reactions so intriguing to follow is that you actually pick up on all the cues that are given up to this point - like Even being erratic but also charismatic enough that you don’t really hold it against him since he makes Isak all giddy though you actually have a suspicion that things aren’t adding up - but you can’t piece it together before it’s too late and clarity hits haaard. And I feel like that’s the exact same experience that Isak has. So the pov really puts you in the main character’s shoes this season.

Cattis

Also, you mentioned that it’s difficult to distinguish Even’s personality from his mental condition because he’s been pretty outgoing throughout. And I think that’s an important insight when discussing mental health issues, cause oftentimes it’s a struggle for both the affected ones themselves and the people around them whether someone suffers from mania, depression or something else. You know, it tweaks the way you think and the way you experience reality and therefore it can be really confusing trying to recognize personality from mania for example at least from time to time. The fact that you reflected on that at the end of this episode is a sign that the creators of SKAM managed to portray that in a realistic way with this character.

Flo

Remember when you thought you had reached the climax of the season a few episodes ago? Well, now you know you definitely had not lol

EniOslo

Even, heart broken, felt down and sad when Isak said that ‘ His life is better without mentally illed people Around him’…( the locker room scene episode 5).

Cat

Even has always seemed comfortable in his sexuality to me. He never seems ashamed to be himself. The only thing he chose to hide was his mental health issues and that mainly stems from the conversation he had with Isak in the locker room. Isak made it clear he didn't want anyone with mental health issues in his life, after the troubles he'd been having with his mum. He's never really hidden his queerness. I think people just assume that because he had a long term girlfriend before meeting Isak

Cat

Second half of the episode is so anxiety inducing. You keep waiting for the bad thing to happen. It's so well done

inka

this episode is A LOT but loved your reaction and analysis as always every time i rewatch skam i realize more and more how incredibly WELL DONE this show is, all the details and cues you guys also picked up on while watching without knowing even's story start to make sense and you start to understand why even has acted the way he has with isak. can't wait to watch the next episode with you!!

Frida BØ

This episode is edited so well, the last part always makes me anxious

Charlotte

The movie Even is referencing to in this episod (I didn't know what you like so I cooked everything, princess Vivian, white limo, climbing up to the balcony, sitting naked with only a tie) is Pretty Woman. I'm pretty sure that a 16 year old guy haven't seen this classic from the 80's, hence Isaks confusion.

CC

How do you mean, he’s the opposite of bipolar?

CC

Incredible episode, I loved your discussion at the end! So much going on, excited for the last 2!

Randy Parker

Not he. Just the word "even". That's why I didn't capitalize it. And called it a linguistic note. :)

@baydreamer

I hope, if nothing else, you guys will watch season 3 of WTFock (Belgium version) and especially Skam France. France has a unique scene and there is a really cool back story for that scene. Watch it (you'll know it's THE scene), then watch this https://youtu.be/V0UmiioNxTg?si=LLHYnrBQTNJJ4Nqm, and then watch the scene again. You're welcome. 😉

PJ

Opening scene where the clock is 11:11… if you google angel numbers and 1111, then it shows it’s a number that signifies “new beginnings”. And the hotel sequence says “15:15-01:01”.. 1515 and 0101 are both numbers that signifies“transformation, change, awakening and new beginnings”..

Eliza

Even believes in being the director in his own life, as if his life is a film. He says so in episode 5, when they are in bed together. Also when he cooks "everything" for Isak at breakfast in the beginning of the episode, that is also a reference to Pretty Woman. And that is probably why he wanted to have the pool scene in ep. 4, as in Romeo and Juliet. He "directs" his life

Marita Lorås

Just wanted to point out something from the conversations Isak and Even had in the lockerroom about their parents. Where Isak says «I have decided to not have people with mental illness in my life» referring to why he dosen’t talk to his mum. An important detail now!

Marita Lorås

Also, need you to see next episode NOW!!🙈

SofieMH

Fun fact: The danish receptionist was added as a ‘we see you, Denmark’ from Julie Andem because she saw how popular SKAM was in Denmark and wanted to acknowledge that☺️

sirius

"Just loud and wrong - and knows it" Had me actually laughing out loud😂😂

Lea Furumo

I didnt want to mention it before this episode, but if u remember the conversation in the locker room between Even and Isak (Ep 5) it makes more sense why Even left the first time. Isak (talking about his mother) said "I've decided that my life is better without mentally ill people around me". That was a hard thing to hear for Even, I think that is why he decided not to leave Sonja.

Tina J

When you’re finished watching the season, I would love to see your reaction going through the website skam.no where all the texts and Instagram posts were posted live back in 2016. Also, while writing this comment, I realise that you cant read the texts there because they’re only in Norwegian. But there are many cute photos. Eskild posts a photo of Even and Isak in the kosegruppe chat and Linn says «is Isak gay now??? How did you manage that Eskild» as an example 😅 One text before the hotel episode reads: Even: that thing you did in the shower today.. Isak: what about it? Even: I can’t concentrate. I have english class. And a boner. Isak: Meet me after school and I’ll do it again. Even: When do you finish school? Isak: 15:35 Even: I’ll be waiting for you at the coffee shop. Man of my dreams. Isak: hahah shut up ❤️ These small things now and then throughout the day made me update the website several times a day to see if anything had been posted 😅 Anywayyys loved your reaction as always. Keep reading the texts 😊

Michael

Adam - it's clear that you can read my thoughts! At the 09:02 mark I thought, 'He's not under there' and at the 09:04 mark you said 'He's not under there'. 🤣

benita lin

God, this episode blows me away every time! The build up to this point has been executed soooo well. Like, it's not predictable at all and yet it makes perfect sense when it does happen. I remember the theorizing on Tumblr really reaching its peak around this time because the outcome of the season still feels so open at this point. And the acting from both of them here???!! The way Even's energy dances on this fine line from wild and alluring to scary and off is played so well. It feels like such an authentic portrayal of a manic episode that's not an over the top caricature. And the moment Isak comes down and realizes something isn't right still breaks my heart. There's been all these moments of things crumbling apart for him throughout the show but this one hits particularly hard because it feels so final and cruel.

IAmom

Every reactor I have seen have said this - but I am pretty sure he is looking for at note/drawing 😅

snallahej

Same. When Sana talks about religion, and hate/fear….i cry every single time. It hits hard for someone who grew up in a pretty strict religion.

snallahej

“Even just got Isak pregnant.” SIR! 🤣🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣💜💙 great reaction and analysis.

CG

So much starts to make sense in this episode. We understand the erratic behavior of the pool scene, as well as several other scenes that you notice were a little off but don't really dwell on earlier. We also really start to understand why Even really shifted after Isak talked about his mom and said that his life is better without mentally ill people in it. That was the moment before the "break."

snallahej

Same. I was wondering if they would have caught on to the suggestion of….developments with the use of the weeknd. Like, old weeknd. That’s music for drugs and….developments! 😊 and Even was definitely high for it. I guess they both were, since they were rising in the elevator 😊 I’ll see myself out.

Ludy

The way this episode creates high highs and low lows for the viewer... Brilliant. This episode is WILD.

Henrik

If you put on your headphones and crank up the volume, you can hear this eerie low soundtrack playing during the hotel room scene, and SKAM *never* has a soundtrack like that in any other scene. This is the only one. And it's deliberately put there to make you more anxious, to fuel the feeling of something being Wrong, something being Off...

Randy Parker

Infrasound is such a sneaky and effective filmmaking technique. I was completely unnerved the first time watching that.

Henrik

Thanks for posting my stuff so I don't have to! 😁 In episode 5, someone asked about the translation of the "They would have loved you" in the locker room. I couldn't post this back then, but it was a tricky piece to translate, and I'm laying out my case for my choice in that post. The alternative would have been to go with "I think they'd love you", but you completely lose any hint of anything being amiss.

Bel Pop

if you think Isak is baby and cutie patootie you’re not ready for Robbe (the Belgian version of him).

Anne27x

yeah, even being manic doesnt mean he isnt in love with isak. some aspects of falling in love could trigger mania, for example.

Lindsey Zwicker

I think it’s interesting to see some of the text message history between Isak and his father. Isak quickly scrolls through old messages just before he sends his dad the coming out text. You can see his dad has attempted to keep in regular contact with Isak - repeated invitations to dinner, reminder to wish his mother a happy birthday, offer to drive Isak to visit his mother, unconditional deposits into Isak’s bank account any time Isak asks (demands) more money. Although he may not been a perfect father and husband, it’s clear he cares about Isak and won’t give up on his relationship with him, no matter how much Isak pushes him away. It’s a good reminder that the narrator isn’t always reliable and there’s always more to people and relationships than we can see on the surface.

CG

Isak

The time stamps of 11:11 and 21:21 are reoccurring in this season. There could be some interesting symbolism there to reflect on

LM-Entertainment Australia

considering this is the original skam - it makes sense what they're saying. i doubt they react to all the branch-off versions from different countries.

LM-Entertainment Australia

i remember being so shocked about this episode when i first saw it. i felt so sorry for isak roaming the streets looking for him. the show is really brilliantly done and i'm glad they included this type of representation in the show. a lot of people have mental health problems and it's important for people to realise that that doesn't make you broken.

Eline Mangen

The end of this episode absolutely ruined me back in 2016, I was at a Christmas dinner with a group of friends and I snuck off to the bathroom to watch it. BIG mistake, spent the rest of the meal thinking about Isak, and then cried for him while walking home. My wife literally had to distract me with other stuff so I would even manage to fall asleep that night. And all these years later the hotel scenes still make me feel uneasy and anxious, which is a testiment to how well made this show is I guess

Michael

100% - the music chosen is a large part of the experience.

Patrick

Breathe, breathe, breathe. Poor Isak. Poor Even. Star-crossed lovers. That was the biggest dose of Skam trauma so far (other than what Nikolai did to Noora in s02). Now the fellas know what we’ve all been clenching our teeth all season to avoid revealing. But, here’s some levity. We can be thankful B&A haven’t been following the text messages posted online between the scenes of the episodes. I’m afraid of what kind of pantomime (& sound effects) Bradley would think up for this naughty🫣 exchange (like he did for the ending moment of last episode). *** Mon. 28 Nov. 2:33 p.m.: Even: That thing you did in the shower this morning. Damn. Isak: What about it? Even: I can’t concentrate. Even: I’m in English. With a boner. Isak: Meet me after school so I can do it again. Even: When do you finish? Isak: 3:15pm Even: I’ll wait for you at kaffebrenneriet then. Man of my life. Isak: Hahaha Shut up ❤️

Joy2464

O.M.F.G. and I didn't think there could be one more hidden message I had not been made aware of in the SKAM universe. Even, the opposite of unmanaged bipolar.

Felicia Karlsson

Evan being bipolar explains why he backed off in ep5 when Isak said ”i’ve decided that my life is better without mentally ill people”

JustinThyme

What an episode and what a reaction! So many good scenes: the conversation between Sana & Isaak, the breakfast scene with Nora and Eskild, and Evan meeting meetings Isaks friends. All gold. And that end, what a gut punch. Your reactions and comments were awesome!

Mark Edwards

Watching for the first time with you boys. At the risk of being self congratulatory, Even struck me as manic when you two were speculating about drugs. Though it’s likely because I went through a similar situation. My first semi-reciprocated crush turned out to be bipolar. He refused all help opting to self medicate with booze and pot. The combination brought his internalized homophobia to the surface, which he aimed at me. Cutting him out of my life proved to be the best and only option. Not surprisingly I suspect Isak needs to do the same.

Lauren Renner

kind of a nothing burger in terms of the bomb drops this episode but i do love using high for this by the weeknd during the hotel scene. good song, great vibes for the scene and some thematic connections as well. can’t wait for yall to see the rest of s3 play out!! i could feel your tension watching this one haha.

Olha77

I like watching your reactions, they are so genuine. I don't regret my membership. I will also watch their reactions to other series after Skam. I stayed overnight at this hotel once, not in a suite though. and I felt sorry for Isak, I feel his anxiety then and now when he has to take the elevator down from the 32nd floor. And I haven't believed Sonja for a moment, even when I saw this episode 9 years ago. Yes, Even is bipolar. Yes, he reacted with shock and sadness after what Isak said about people with mental problems, and how he will not associate with them. He distanced himself, came back to Sonja to not to hurt Isak. But at the same time he couldn't help but think of him and love him. I just think of all these little drawings - they are full of love and longing. And when he came to Isak at the end of the last episode - when everyone saw how much they missed each other, how much they loved each other. So I just want to say to Sonja - as I said out loud back then 9 years ago - fuck off, what you're saying is bullshit. You're angry and hurt. But that doesn't mean what you're saying is true.

aslan

Gabrielle is one of the most well known artists in Norway. I don't know why but a lot of people just don't like her, some of it may stem from her hit single "Ring Meg" (Call Me) which a lot of people find annoying. She's not controversial whatsoever, and she has incredible music imo.

EniOslo

And quite a good actress as well( Hjem til Jul😍)

sirius

I think the reason some people don't like the music is because they think it's "corny", "cringe" or "too popular" That's just how people are with some popular artists

EniOslo

Pls delete it…

CG

I do not see how this spoils anything. There are no details, no exact scene, no clue as to why I love it. People can guess what happens, but people can always guess what happens. Spoilers TELL you what happened. The irony here is that one of the comments telling me to delete offered more than my actual post

Felicia Karlsson

In Norwegian there isn't a specific translation for "boyfriend" and "girlfriend". They are both translated as kjæreste, which is a gender-neutral term meaning "romantic partner" or a more direct translation - "dearest" or "sweetheart".

Louise Mohlin

It was huge here in Sweden too, where was our shouout?? I'm calling mom

Louise Mohlin

Wait maybe Jonas and Isak discussing IKEA names was our shoutout

Louise Mohlin

It's a fun coincidence, but I doubt it's purposeful since even doesn't mean "even" in norwegian, if you get what I'm saying 😅

Laura

It's so hard for me to watch this episode. I had to skip that hotel scene now too. This is hitting so close to my personal life. Back in 2016 when this came out live, my little brother had just been hospitalized for mania and psychosis. He was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. I still remember how much I cried during those months and then this series came out where the exact same things happened. My brother has been fine for years and he's married and they have kids. So in that way, everything is fine, but you always worry about your loved ones. <3

Rolf

This is THE episode! All the emotions, anxiety, and confusion 😭 I remember watching this for the first time, and I was so sure that Even was going to jump out of the hotel window while Isak was drifting in and out of sleep – thank god I was wrong!!! So sad that season 3 is almost over, but excited for the final episodes and for the next season 💛

Martin S.

The most poignant part of this episode was Isak carrying Even’s clothes while running around downtown Oslo looking for him

Tiina

Isak telling Even very early on "I'm better off without mentally ill people in my life"...

MICHELLE

Just subscribed to the Patreon for Heated Rivalry and was so happy to find you are watching Skam!! If you're open to other shows in the Skam Universe, I recommend Skam France Season 3. I'm not a big fan of France's other seasons, but I *loved* their Evak (Lucas & Elliot), so it may be fine to just watch S3 since you have the context from the original show. I also liked Druck (German version). Loving these reactions!

JessieC

this is exactly what brought me here, I saw Heated Rivary and knew I'd find some hilarious reactions which brought me here but now that I'm here and saw they are watching thsi I staretd on these instead.

JessieC

yep whcih is why he was like "My parents WOULD have loved you" he was saying goodbye... and it was just after that that he texted him that itw as going too fast and broke it off with him

JessieC

then right after the last scene in this episode he texted Eskild to come get him and bring him home, which makes the first scene of the next episode when Eskild is checking on him even more meaningful

Alex Des

Same here! Catching up on all of the previous reactions because of HR! Also LOVE Druck, my favorite remake with Italian one!

Alex Des

All the sad aside, I just wanna say that that morning scene to Gabrielle had me in a fking CHOKEHOLD almost 10 years ago! I had it saved on every device I had, must've rewatched it a million times, and even now it brings me right back to those days, life was so good(

Levi Snazzy

I was thinking he might be bipolar

PyQio

I really liked the third season of WtFOCK (the Belgian remake) too

strem

Yes to what you and Eliza included.... and we know Even is a bit older and we know (from what Isak finds out about Even online in the earliest episodes this season) that he has eclectic tastes in film for a guy his age - specifically for ones with romantic themes.
