Bradam Reacts

boy oh boy do I still sound sick in this video LOLL

Mo

yay

Frida BØ

I have to save this one for tomorrow but i am so excited to see what you think of this episode! I’m pretty sure it won some sort of award at some point?

Rachael

The Neon cross is directly taken from The Baz Luhrmann Romeo and Juliet just like the underwater kiss was too. My read of that ending was that Even’s message read as a s*icide note and that’s why isak left church early. Maybe I’m wrong but it just works that way for the sad ending of Romeo and Juliet, maybe he was worried for Even that way too idk but I love these boys so much

Bradam Reacts

UGH I KNEW I RECOGNIZED THE CROSS OMG IT WAS KILLING ME!!!!! thank you for this omgomg

Anxious Em

I think you’re exactly right. Even even states the thematic purpose of the season the previous episode ‘you think it’s about Romeo and Juliet but it’s Pretty Woman.’

Beck Huston

That was one of the most beautiful scenes I have ever seen.

@baydreamer

I was hoping y'all would come around to appreciating Magnus! I love him!

Rachael

Wait yes he did say that. So beautifully done

LM-Entertainment Australia

one of the best episodes of the whole series in my opinion. very few words, but important ones from mags. the rest is just pure art. that's why this episode won awards!

Anxious Em

IIRC, it won what's essentially a people's choice for best moment in TV that year at the Norwegian equivalent of the Emmys'/television awards. They also changed the age requirements for nominations for best male actor in a drama so that Tarjei could be nominated even though he was only 17.

Rachael

Commenting again just to say how brilliant Henrik and Tarjei are.

Anxious Em

I also remember the unhinged kiss cam moment at that same awards show where Tarjei and Henrik full on frenched on camera lol

Anxious Em

Just brilliant symbolism and writing this whole season. I could talk about it for ages.

Bel Pop

that was wild as hell

@baydreamer

It was definitely very moving and sweet.

LM-Entertainment Australia

that'd be a great clip for brad and adam to react to along with the season 3 bloopers.

JJ

Magnus has been an underrated character imo. He is socially awkward and blurts out questions/thoughts but I never felt like it came from a judgemental place. He really wants to support his friends.

Sid

Indeed! In the text messages posted between clips, it was Magnus who, after Isak came out to the boys, offered to take him to a gay bar.

Felicia Karlsson

This season portraits stereotypes well. Both Emma’s comment about “all gay people are funny” but also about religion. We (and Isak) assume Isaks mother (and maybe Sana) won’t be accepting because of her religion but the show shows that our stereotypes aren’t always right.

Marie Emelia

Right after the last scene in the last episode, Isak texted Eskild saying he needed him (you could read it at skams website). So when this episode start you could assume Eskild has been with Isak the hold night, comforting him. It's beautiful to see that Isak has a person he can lean on and supports him like Eskild does ❤️

Kjell Tore Engvik

Before starting on season 4, you should also react to the Skam 25 years later on YouTube. It was published after season 3 ended.

Mo

Magnus MVP. So excited for season 4!

Ulysses92

The text from Isak's mum at the beginning was her response to his coming out text which is why he got so emotional. Also, Even's text at the church was a suicide note. Back when this was airing there was so much theorising happening on tumblr and one of the big theories was related to the Romeo and Juliet parallels and whether the season would end with a suicide. When Isak is sitting in the church and sees those flashbacks he's realising all the dark things Even said and what the text might mean. For example, one of the blink and you'll miss it flashbacks is a moment in episode 2 where Even said it's not a great love story if the main character doesn't die. So Isak ran out of the church to save Even and that's why he told him you're not alone. The irony of all this is that Even told us in episode 8 that this would happen. He said that you think it's Romeo and Juliet but it's actually Pretty Woman. So Even rescued Isak from the closet and Isak rescued him right back.

Anne27x

i'm not sure if you guys realised, but isak's mom was replying to him coming out! that's why he cried. she accepts him for who he is.

Gambit

This is the episode I was waiting for. That final scene won TV Moment of the Year in 2017. It’s such a masterful piece of art with very little dialogue and still hits! I have to be quiet every time I watch it 😭😭💚💚

Randy Parker

"The church scene from Skam season 3, featuring Isak and Even, won the Best TV Moment of the Year award at the Norwegian television award ceremony, the Gullruten, in 2017."

Anne27x

also - i believe it has been confirmed that even's text to isak when he was in the church was a suicide note

Dionne Lakey

I think you guys missed the impact of Isak coming out to his mum via text. The one important person in his life he thought "wouldn't get it." It's probably because it's across two episodes. Her response to him in this episode is so relieving. Then his dad is so sweet to him. And he's confused about Even. It was just such high and low emotions, no wonder he was crying, poor baba.

Dionne Lakey

Yes the rescued him right back line he uses in the previous episode is between Vivienne and the Richard Gere character in their 'balcony/limo' scene.

Cattis

Yeeees!! I think so too!

Michael

Something quite subtle but very important happens in this episode during the church scene which many people miss when they first view this episode. If you watch what happens at the 25:07 mark, you will see that the singer turns his head very slightly and looks straight at Isak. It's at that exact point when the two make direct eye contact that Isak has a 'eureka' moment, as we see Isak looking at the cross on the altar (does that tell us that Isak has experienced some sort of divine intervention at that point?), then he sees all the flashbacks between him and Even and that spurs him on to quickly leave the church and go and search for Even in an attempt to save Even before it's too late.

scottyG

That scene where Isak gets the text from his mom makes me ball every time. Same with the phone call with his dad. Tarjei's performance is soo haunting. His ability to emote and portray emotion reminds me of Edvin Riding as Prince Wilhelm.

Randy Parker

I don't think anyone expected Magnus to be one of the MVPs of the season.

allie

“we did it joe” took me out😭 lowkey still need you guys to react to edits at the end pls

Andrew S

When this came out I remember reading an analysis of the lyrics and that Norwegian translation alludes to death a little more than the English version and that it what triggers Isak to realize what the text really meant - I would need this confirmed though. Edit: Chatgpt ftw - I recommend reading the english translation of the SWEDISH version of the song "O Helga Natt"

Joy2464

You actually sound much better - from your Minnesota mom.

Joy2464

Agree. I've watched it over a few times now and when Isak re-reads the text, he seems to realize it could be a goodbye, for real. So he stands and leaves, then runs to where they met. I wish I knew what words the man in the church was singing. At least in the verses of the song that I know, verse 3 would be so perfect, can anyone translate the verses for me? Or maybe it's not as relevant as I am hoping. Here is the verse to Oh Holy Night that I love, "Truly He taught us to love one another; His law is love and His Gospel is Peace Chains shall He break, for the slave is our brother And in His name, all oppression shall cease."

Mellie

One thing I love about this season is how our expectations for the relationship power balance shift. Isak is younger and closeted and scared of coming out. Even is older and more gregarious and fearless. Even is the one so often pushing the boundaries of their relationship. He's the one who kisses first. He's the one who shows up at Isak's apartment. You get the feeling that's how its going to be forever, which is fine for some people but is a little reminiscent of Noora/Wilhelm. But this scene, where Isak has been fully validated by his friends and family, *Isak* gets to chase down Even and tell him that he's not alone and hold him and make him feel better. It's not just Even the pursuer and Isak the pursued, but a mutual relationship that they can actually build own. It's very cathartic.

benita lin

"Isak just ran out, hole still sore" oh you are sick for this I can't 😭😭😭😭

benita lin

I can't even explain how torturous it was to watch this episode being released in real time! A character death seemed like a real option to many fans at the time and there was a lot of theorizing about how the Romeo and Juliet theme might be continued on. Finally getting that clip on Friday and knowing that Even is safe with Isak was just pure relief 😭 I literally remember getting the notif and keyboard smashing with my tumblr bestie in true 2016 fashion lmfaooo AN ERA TRULY Also the church singer is named Nils Bech and he is the same guy who sang the song for the season 3 trailer, so there is a bit of a full circle moment here. And he is indeed a gay man! Such a meaningful casting choice imo especially considering the church setting and the theme of religion and homophobia throughout the season

Dan

the church scene is my favorite Skam scene, it makes me so emotional to watch it every time! first of all, the reunion with his parents, and getting confirmation that they still love him, then Even's text. I love how he doesn't think too much about it the first time, but then listening to the song along with the cross from romeo and juliet, he rethinks about the history he's had with Even over the past few weeks, and starts to realize the parallels with the movie and how Even's letter could be read as a suicide note "in another universe we are together" so he stands up and walks away from the cross, away from the tragic ending of romeo and juliet. at first he thinks he's to late, but the last flashback reminds us that they actually first met in the bathroom. he turns to look at the door, and Even is standing there. I love how this entire reunion goes, but I want to point out the differences in clothing here. Even's got multiple layers on, large hoodie hiding his face, protecting himself. Compare this with Isak, with his light jacket and no hoodie. Then as the music cuts back in, we get the one piece of spoken dialogue in the entire scene. "You are not alone" Just like Even predicted last episode, what happens after Even saves Isak? Isak saves him right back. It's a pretty woman reference after all.

Eliza

Music from the first scene is the start of a song called "the brain is alone/hjernen er alene", the feeling Even said he was afraid of in ep. 5 (bed scene). Julie Andem, the director planned the last scene back when she was working on season 1. she said so in a podcast. The singer is her best friend and the song became and still is a popular Christmas song. It is in Swedish.

Inna Kajaste

Okay so happy for that end remark "last season of SKAM.... cast of Norway" 🥳🤩🥰

CC

❤️❤️❤️❤️

Maria

I just want to say that you guys uploading is one of the highlights of my week! I’ve received a lot of sad news lately and this community really helps ❤️ Thank you!!

Patrick

Guys, I fear you missed a layer to what is going on in the final scene. The danger of suicide was looming over it. It would be worthwhile to go back to the church scene & pause on the flashback images in Isak’s head. What happens at the end of Romeo & Juliet? Remember in ep2, the only video that Isak could find online of Even’s presence on the Internet — how did Even say “epic love stories” end? What were those things Even said in bed — how the only way to escape your thoughts is to die — how the only way to keep something forever is by losing it? And remember Isak found on Wikipedia the warning of severe depression during the bipolar lows?😨 After suddenly recalling all that, Isak re-read Even’s text. And he saw the suicide note lurking in its words. It’s worth a second look now. It’s a whole other level of depth going on here. Isak was terrified, and very possibly saved Even’s life — “I’ll rescue you right back,” right? But this is Julie Andem’s superlative writing. Like an onion, there are layers upon layers, foreshadowing upon foreshadowing, the later significance of so many seemingly extraneous, even trivial, words spoken (by Noora, by Sana, by the Nurse/Doctor/Nurse, etc.) in scene after scene — especially this season. Every time I rewatch the season, there are several points I can’t help but cry. (It probably helps that Tarjei can, seemingly, cry upon demand.) Also, now you know why people love Magnus — the Oracle of the Hartvig Nissen School.🤓

Elle

Yesss people need people, and I think this episode just nails that theme perfectly. We have seen that Isak has been distant with (and distrustful of) everyone, and this season we have been shown repeatedly Isak having to tackle his own stereotypes, and his mom sending that message and reassuring him that she will always love him unconditionally is just the first step of Isak finally realizing people aren’t only the labels that he has put on them. So that Magnus, that has been the comical relief character the whole season, is the one to get through Isak is just perfect imo, and I would say is the reason as to why he decides to be truthful with his dad during the phone call. You have to stop underestimating the people around you, and start trusting them.

Patrick

“Walking side to side.” Oh gosh, lol.

Patrick

And, of course, Nils Bech is the namesake for Even Bech Næsheim. Julie Andem & Nils Bech used to date. That didn’t work out for obvious reasons. But Nils’ boyfriend’s last name is . . . Næsheim. So Julie is the real-life Sonja — getting dumped by her boyfriend for a guy.

Flo

I was watching this show with my 16 year old cousin recently and her dad called just before the church scene that he was outside to pick her up and I was like “no, he’ll have to wait, you do not pause this scene” lol

Hugh C

74 yo Canadian thanking Bradam ...and all those contributing in these comments...for showing me how this season is so utterly moving, beyond my own interpretation when first viewing it.

Bradam Reacts

we’re so glad we could help brighten up some tough days anyway we could ❤️

dogstar

Spot on! Good observation.

This❤️🙏🏻

Yess the lyrics were from Cherry Wine by Nas and Amy Winehouse

Dee

I’m not crying, you’re crying

Dee

I’m glad you’re loving the show. I believe the French version of S3 would move you even more

Karin J

Here’s a quick direct translation from the swedish lyrics (which is sung in the clip) Oh holy night, oh holy moment for the world When the human god to earth descended To repent the crimes and sins of the world For us he suffered the pain of death And the ray of hope travels through the world And light shimmers over land and sea People - Fall down And hail your freedom Oh holy night - you gave us salvation People - Fall down -And hail your freedom Oh holy night - you gave us salvation The saviour has broken our heavy bonds Our earth is free, heaven is now opened In a slave you will see a beloved brother and your enemy you will hold dear From heaven the savour brought us peace For us he descended into his quiet grave People - Fall down And hail your freedom Oh holy night - you gave us salvation People - Fall down -And hail your freedom Oh holy night - you gave us salvation It’s a bit more centered around the death and sacrifice of Jesus compared to the English version which is fitting

Cattis

As a Swede who by tradition has listened to and sung that Christmas carol (among others) every single year of my life between the Lucia celebrations and Christmas Eve, I have to say how incredible this particular performance of O Helga Natt is! The first time I heard Nils Bech's version, I was speechless. I'm preeeetty sure Bradley appreciated it too 🤭 And the pants of course. They were just as incredible.

Olha77

Nils Bech as someone has written here before, sings the song in the trailer. And it is also he who sings the song at the end of episode 2, when Even kisses Sonja, and Isak gets a message from his friends that he has been exposed in his lies. Nils Bech at this time was boyfriend with Knut Næsheim, a close friend of Julie. I think that`s why Even`s last name is Bech Næsheim.

Olha77

I think Julie was girlfriend with Knut Næsheim, not Nils.

Mona

My heart... I wish you could have experienced this in real time. It was an absolutely intense period. We had never seen this kind of TV format before, where clips were released in real time and you could refresh the website to read text messages between the characters as they happened. Following the characters on Instagram.. You became completely absorbed by it. It was pure madness, honestly. We discussed and speculated about what would happen in Facebook groups, and I got to know so many people online during that time and we had soo much fun—it was beautiful. When that church clip dropped, I remember being completely overwhelmed, curled up in the fetal position afterward, just feeling. No, it’s really impossible to describe, that period with Skam in real time. I’ll never forget it, and that time, all the experiences and emotions, will stay with me forever. It’s strange to say something like that about a TV show, but this was something truly extraordinary...

Daniel

It feels almost as if something goes a bit missing in the translation from Norwegian to English or maybe from European context to American? I don't know it is just a bit interesting. Most of those who saw this in my country knew straight away it was a suicide letter (I live in Sweden so it's still subs although Norwegian is very similar to Swedish), or at least a goodbye letter making the scene so much more loaded. Many people from the US that reacts to this episode does not catch that. I wonder if it is something in the translation, what do you guys think?

Geo

I am American and that was the first thing I thought: "This is a suicide note.". Once Isak dashes out it was even more clear to me.

Geo

Who'd have thunk it?

Geo

That last scene was probably one of the most well-made, affecting pieces of television I have seen in the last decade. The music was so moving, the acting so real, the threat of suicide had me at the edge of my seat. As someone who suffers from his own depression and mental health challenges, those simple words from Isak felt like exactly what I would want to hear: "You're not alone "

Cattis

You are not alone❣️

j-l

i cant express what evaks relationship and the simple ''youre not alone'' from isak meant to 15 year old me when this came out, and still does to this day. i struggle with mental illness and at the time i was also in the closet. i felt like i could never be loved, and watching their relationship gave me hope. season 3 helped so many people, both isak and even are such important characters and im so grateful to have good bipolar representation in even, theres not much of that.

j-l

i just wrote a similar comment, the impact this season has had on people is so beautiful. you are never alone <3

Geo

To this day, the scene makes me lose it in tears. We are not alone. Love to you.

Geo

😢 💕😘

JustinThyme

What a great episode and a wonderful reaction. Love the scene with supportive Eskild and the surprising voice of reason Magnus. The acting talent on this show is astounding! And the two of you going deep in the emotional moments and then coming out with comments about Isaak’s sore ass and We did it Joe!😂😂😂 Can’t wait for the season finale!

Ella

Maybe it’s the “I love you” at the end of the message? I’m Finnish (but I know some Swedish and Norwegian), and I don’t think it’s as common to say/write I love you’s in than in English, and it feels particularly poignant with the rest of the message. Now I know the full context but I’m trying to remember what I thought when I first saw the scene, I don’t think my mind went straight to suicide, but maybe self-harm or something but I definitely remember the feeling of dread and the relief when we find out Even is fine

Daniel

Interesting ! It could be that

sirius

I love your guy's conversations at the end! 🫶🏼 Also can't wait for the last episode😩🫶🏼

j-l

sending so much love your way as well. never alone <3

j-l

im swedish too and i immediately knew it was a suicide letter. but im not sure if its cause i understand quite a bit of norwegian or because i relate to evens struggles and understand the mindset he was in, maybe its both.

Tina J

I agree! It felt way worse watching it in real time, I was absolutely sure Even would do something horrible.. When Isak ran out of church I was balling 😭 and then the bench was empty I was terrified. And then the long stare, caressing and «You are not alone» was exceedingly more impactful than a kiss would have been. Their acting is incredible. Tarjei and Henrik makes it feel so real. End game 💕

Louise Mohlin

While it is my favourite Skam remake, the French version is both less well-written and well-acted - the over-acting in some of the dramatic scenes gave me second hand embarrassment at times 😑

Obligated

I recently dated a guy for a couple of months, and even though it didn’t work out for other reasons, Isak’s talk with Magnus in this episode is the reason I was completely unfazed when he told me he has bipolar. I felt like “yeah, this isn’t something I take lightheartedly, I know this comes with certain complications, but he’s not crazy. This aspect of him doesn’t scare me. I still want to give this a shot” So thank you SKAM! And a big thanks to the true MVP; Magnus!

Isak

I'm late, again, and too lazy to read all the other comments here to see if anyone else has mentioned it, but: When Isak gets the text from his mom where she says she loves him, that is presumably her response to his text the day before where he came out to her. So essentially he is like "mom, I am gay, and I apologize for that" and then she is like "I love you and I always have loved you and I always will love you" :')

ophelia

He looks at the cross and remembers the death scene from Baz Luhrmanns Romeo and Juliet, the movie Even has referenced many times through the season, like when he staged their kiss in the pool... And then, in the end just like Even said in the hotel "you think its a reference from Rome and Juliet but its really not¨, turns out its a pretty woman reference where Even is ¨rescued right back¨ by Isak instead. He actually references Pretty Woman another tme during the season as well when he makes breakfast and he says he ¨made everything¨

Alison

I am so excited to see you watch season 4

z

and these are basically child actors!

Elena

need you all to watch druck after the 4th season🙏🙏🙏🙏

Lindsey Zwicker

Seconded. IMO Druck is the best Season 3 remake. No contest.

Trine

this waiting time is fucking wild. going back to youtube

Silja Molstad

FYI: The neon cross in the church is a direct reference to Romeo + Juliet! When they die in the church, they're surrounded by crosses like that. I'd honestly love for you guys to watch Romeo + Juliet and maybe revisit some moments from this season after, cause I feel like all of the references create another dimension of meaning! Especially concerning suicide. Also so many musical references, the underwater kiss etc.

Kath Media

Okay it’s taking me a while to post this. Even sent the message and was about to kill himself for the 3 time. Still hard to watch shows more in France season 34&5 but WtFock season 3 and lockdown broke me

Kath Media

Sorry not a fan of Druck seasons 0% chemistry or script

Nicole T

I don’t think Even was about to kill himself—Isak just considered it was a possibility.

JessieC

I ALSO thought that was what that was, all of the similarities with R&J and his goodbye text and him talking about the only way to keep something forever is to DIE which he said several times then he's like I'm in the place we first met (when I first watched this I wa SCREAMING at the screen "HE'S IN THE BATHROOM!!!!!" I ABSOLUTELY thought it was a suicide note.

JessieC

LOOOOOVED DRUCK-- the twist of S3 was amazing-- it kept it absolutely fresh

JessieC

and how they had to rewrite the Isak character to prepare him for the season-- I remember watching S2 of DRUCK and thinking "he's being written so different what are they doing? then I saw S3 and it made sense that he'd need a slightly different story arch

Alex Des

I remember how we all as a fandom were making countless theories how this episode was gonna end, the anticipation of this clip was unbearable and it was really scary to finally find out how they were gonna turn the story around. And I will never forget when the clip dropped. And we saw THAT. One line of monologue but somehow a perfect resolution. I couldn't catch my breath I was so struck by the sheer perfection of this moment. "You are not alone". Just incredible.

Alex Des

Also the scene where Magnus tells the boys about his mom and reassures Isak about Even? I love this boy so much! Such a multilayered character

PyQio

I have no idea how many times I've watched and rewatched that final scene. Watching this episode helped me to form a closer bond with a friend of mine who is bipolar. Through sharing the little things, I learnt so much as a 16-year-old. I'm not sure if it changed anyone's life, but I'm confident it did. I'm also very grateful that they included it in such a popular show.

Anna.L

I'm late but im just gonna share my thoughts here lol. I feel like Evan's texts are very similar to Isak's mom in a way. They both are going trough alot of emotions and they love Isak so much but there isnt much they can do but to send what they love to the person that they love, his mom is religious, she doesn't know he is gay, is just that she believes in what she believes in so she sends pharagraphs (even if is inconvinent), Even is sending music from a musician that they both love, thats the only difference. My view.

Rafael Fernandes Junqueira

Im bipolar and in a bad place right now, thank you for the reaction and intoducing me to a great show, im criwing....
