We have finally made it. The movie reaction IS HERE! 🥹

Adam and Bradley are back in sunny San Francisco one last time to watch Patrick "Patty" (Jonathan Groff) return to SF for a certain wedding 💒 after his move to Denver. On his return, old friends Dom (Murray Bartlett), and Agustín (Frankie J. Alvarez) spend what little time we have with them left continuing to navigate the ooh's and ahh's of 30-something gayhood. (Plus dealing with some demons along the way!)

A real Sex and the City bunch of modern gay men navigate love, career, and friendship while exploring the complexities of gay life with raw, realistic humor and drama, focusing on dating, connection, commitment, masculinity and finding happiness. 👀

HBO's "Looking" saw a quick, but packed 2 seasons and a movie! So get ready to join Bradam on their speedy watch-through.

We're so happy and pleased with our Looking journey. 💖

We're so grateful to have you all here on the Patreon 💕 your support is so special to us.

Ahhhh! what a lovely late night surprise i’m so ready for this

K8kat

HELL YEAHHHHH🙌

wren

so glad we agree that Patrick and Dom are basically like brothers and that kiss was weird 😂

Rebekah

wait freaking out that i got a shout out what the heck!! you guys are the sweetest, i've loved watching this show with you guys. i'll comment something else once i finish the reaction but just had to say that that made my day 💕🥺

wren

I personally love the ending and Patrick and Richie getting back together. It really does put into perspective just how much Patrick has evolved over the course of the show. I think i’m okay with it now because he really does finally feel ready after all of the Kevin bullshit he went through. Though Patrick’s impulsiveness may never change with immediately wanting to uproot and go to Texas lol

Geo

I love how Patrick and Richie basically switched places. The series gradually showed Patrick learning to be a bit self-aware and accountable, and he becomes more grounded and available to others in the movie. Richie learns to deal with his pride a bit and to allow himself to be more vulnerable and open (one thing Patrick could be was open to possibility). They somehow balanced each other out and took on a bit of each other's traits by the end (it was Patrick being the strong one while Richie was insecure and uncertain... and that little nod of "yes I want to try" killed me in the end). I always felt they had an easy way with each other when Patrick just let himself be and Richie opened himself up. Their two "day out" episodes were among the best of the series because they had real chemistry when they just allowed themselves to "explore" together.

Geo

PS the scene where Richie comes back to the club is pure cinema. Such a gorgeously filmed scene with that choice of music and the mirror effects. And Adam was transfixed.

Geo

Yeah and the fact that they had to shove a few seasons into a movie didn't help that sense of impulsiveness any.

wren

very very true. it felt like we got to spend such a short amount of time with them but i’m satisfied with how it all wrapped up

Geo

Another thing I loved about this movie: the little breadcrumbs showing what Patrick meant to Richie laid down along the way: Richie taking the advice and trying to talk to his Dad; Richie watching the Goonies (twice); Richie opening a truck to cut hair... These little things showed how Richie values Patrick and wanted to learn from him even though they are not together. It was kind of lovely

Geo

I do think there is a point there, as well. Patrick knew that the impulsiveness with Kevin was a bad idea because they really didn't know each other. I think him offering to go where Richie goes shows he DOES know Richie, trusts him and is ready to do what needs to be done this time

Alberto

Pretty sure I’m the only one here thinking so but Kevin’s speech was so RIGHT. Patrick can only run away. Kev was a bit harsh but after all Patrick only seems to understand the hard way. This movie always leaves a bitter taste in my mouth for how things end between the two of them. It was great to rewatch the show with you guys. Love you.

Rebekah

the ending to this movie will always make me cry. like just seeing these people happy and exactly where they should be means the world. and I am always team richie and patrick so i love that they get their happy ending too. i've loved rewatching the series with you guys, so sad that its over now 😭

Rebekah

i get chills every time!

Geo

It was just brilliantly composed: out of focus at first, almost like a memory or dream sneaking up on him, then coming into focus and switching perspective to Richie being right there in that intimate space in front of him. Thematically, having him appear to come from the past AND the present at the same time is chef's kiss.

Geo

I think Kevin was right for sure, AND Kevin has his own culpability in their lack of communication. This scene might not have had enough closure between them, but at least Patrick didn't just keep running. He took a risk to see Kevin and at least attempt a conversation. This whole movie is about him realizing the effects that his running has had.

Just THANK YOU for this. Looking has always been a series that meant so much to me, (the negative responses at the time it was first aired and then the cancellation absolutely broke my heart -- thank God for the movie), and the movie gave me EVERYTHING I was "looking" for. Re-watching with you has been such a joy. And I may absolutely take you up on the chance to re-watch this (for me a re-re-watch) AGAIN. thanks, Thanks, THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Scott aka Blue62

Fantastic reaction to the movie! I had forgotten how much I LOVE the movie after not rewatching it for a couple of years.

Scott aka Blue62

Agree with everything you wrote! I never understood the hate this show got at the time. And the movie is a gem.

JenJen

Loved rewatching all of Looking with you! Now that you’ve watched All of Us Strangers and Looking, highly recommend watching the film Weekend, which was also written and directed by Andrew Haigh!

Geo

At the time it got accused of having characters that were too "unlikeable" and not enough diversity. This has been discussed here, but the show always felt so real to me. I knew people like these people and even have some of the icky traits these people have. I know at the time some found this "warts and all" approach to be "self-hating," though I couldn't disagree more.

Martin Imrie

Ahhh! You guys finally did it! How good! Loved the react

S Lopez

Loved this!

Devin

The final meetup with Patrick and Kevin is such a heartbreaking scene for me. All thru season 1 and 2 I was rooting for them because aside from the messiness of Kevin cheating, they were so good together. Patrick made the right choice to leave I think with everything that happened on move-in day, and also seeing how Kevin was such a dick to Patrick in the movie reinforced that. At the end when Kevin says "I'd like to have given it a try" while fighting tears, and the "Why? Because I love you", he clearly was just trying to hurt Patrick, maybe thought it would make him feel better but realized it wasn't helping

WE LOVE YOU!!! ur insights are always read and appreciated <3

i really liked that kevin's character was mad. we don't know exactly but we do know that Pat just up and left. i can't imagine there was much of a conversation knowing our boy 😭

Geo

I felt seen as well ;)

Took me a month to get to this but laughed right away at "the (SFO) runway's on the water." I live directly between the runways and the water and can't see either from my house. Also, I attended my best friend's wedding on those exact same stairs in City Hall. Shook Kamala Harris's hand across the street from where Ritchie and Patrick had their heart to heart (caught the MUNI there everyday for work). And have eaten too many 3 am burgers at Orphan Andy's diner (where they end up after the EndUp). This film is like a highlight tour of my gay life.

I don't get why you were so down on Kevin in his exchange with Patrick. Kevin's obviously still upset and hurting from what happened. That's why he lashed out. Totally understandable. He didn't reach out to Patrick to get together. Patrick did upend his life (of course, Kevin played a huge role in that, too). Patrick got the tongue-lashing he deserved. NOW he can close that chapter and move on.
