Just to let you know, out of curiosity I had ordered the new Bose Soundlink Max. It should be shipped beginning of June here in Europe. I highly doubt I will keep it but it will be interesting to hear what Bose came up with in this speaker category. I was always impressed by Bose speakers years back like the Sounddock portable or the similar Soundlink Wireless Music System which outperformed anything else released back then. I am curious if the Max will make JBL cry…

I have an old sounddock 10, this 15 yo speaker is really impressive by its power and size (bassier and louder than stormbox blast) but weirdly boosted around 400 hz, it goes pretty low indeed (40hz peak).

I found the tuning of the Sounddock 10 very weird, the bass sounded strange. I never heard it at maximum though.

Agree, for audiophile this would not do the trick But i appreciate how powerful it is in a such small Package, it's definitely louder and as powerful as my Partybox 100. So perfectly great for making noises. But for critical listening, i prefer much more the Uboom L with your tuning, soon i will get a Vifa Helsinki or Oslo for a real high-end audio expérience. I'm sure the Helsinki will still Blown away this new soundlink Max.

I have the Bose Soundlink Max from the Vine program. I have only listened to it for maybe 20 mins and I was busy doing other things so no final thoughts. It's really small to supposedly be a party speaker. It's bass is ok for it's size, but it definitely isn't as robust as a normal party speaker / Tribit blast, JBL Partybox 100, Aiwa Exos 9 tier. I pumped it to maximum and it seems to do the normal get screechy and bass just rolls off. I have a lot more listening to do before I will review it. At normal levels it does sound quite nice, and even has an expanded stereo effect. I thought with the side grills it might have additional drivers to the sides. It doesn't. I'm guessing that the grills are to let the driver disperse more to the sides? I don't know.

I assume it’s more a JBL Xtreme competitor even though more expensive I wonder if it’s either louder or more mature sounding than the JBL.

Joe

I have the JBL Xtreme 2. I'll try it out this evening when I get home.

Cool, 2,3,4 is more or less the same haha, curious to hear your opinion

I wasn’t aware it to be that loud. I remember it to be also pretty compact. If they had ever released something like that with a battery built in but then it would be probably larger. There is still lack of compact yet still really powerful portable speakers with some nice bass. That’s why I was always so underwhelmed by all the JBL Boombox offerings, they simply didn’t impress me at all. And other companies tried to copy that crap instead of trying to make something better

Hopefully we have the stormbox blast for only around 150€ on Amazon or others dealers. Balanced, very loud, Great autonomy, Nice Light effect.... impressive as hell (with your eq it's a real pleasure to listen)

After watching the youtube video from "Scott's reviews" where he plays the bose soundlink max against the soundcore boom 2, i am not interested anymore. It's difficult to hear, but it seems like the Boom 2 has 95% of the audio performance of the bose. For 400 Euro, i can get 4x Soundcore Boom 2 (if they are on discount). Bose usually never gives discounts and the price stays stable high. Maybe it is siithly better here and there, but it will never justify the price. I'm more interessted in the upcomming soundcore boom 2 plus, which seems to be a JBL Boombox 2, Tribit Strombox Blast, UBOOM X contendor! On preorder you even get a soundcore motion x100 for free.

You were spot on. The Xtreme 2 and the Bose Max essentially have the same amount of bass and bass roll off at the same frequencies. The major thing setting them apart is that the Bose Max has this diffuse wide soundstage (I'm not sure if I am a fan of it yet, its SO diffuse). At max volume the Xtreme 2 is well controlled while the Max gets super screechy, the last volume steps are boosted so harshly. I look forward to seeing your video on it. edit: I just learned there is a Soundlink App that has a 3 slide EQ for it. You can push the bass a little, but with the bass slider fully up it is distorting on some tracks.

Yes! Was really curious about your thoughts on this before making a decision.
