Just wanted to listen to some music and do some recording. I switch to my Nuberts from time to time, and sometimes I also mix in the original recording as reference.

At the end I play the UBoom X against the JBL Xtreme 4 shortly.

Let me know what you think.

I really like it, preferring it to Nuberts mostly (to me it seems to be closer to the original track) and it obviously kills the Jbl but I would've probably liked if the bass was reduced ever so slightly more in the indoor mode, that would also let the rest of the sound to be even more revealing and the treble could also therefore be just slightly reduced. Kiddies who want bass or to put it on the ground will use the outdoor mode anyway, I'm afraid that it could be a bit extreme in a smaller room or next to a wall...

How would you rate it in compare to 2x Uboom L in TWS mode for indoor listening?

Jamie de Meo

I'm curious by this too. I'd much rather have two L's than X if there was little difference.

2 UBoom L will sound boomier in stereo, the UBoom X will play much deeper and have a smoother treble.

Hi Oluv, thus it is mainly outdoor/party speaker I like how the bass in the indoor mode sounds as it is. Trebles seem a bit hot, but could be my headphones, so I trust your judgement. My 2c

2 questions: Is it possible to turn of the lights? How is the battery life? Thanks

oluvsgadgets

Of course I just leave them on so that you see which one is playing. I haven’t tested battery life but I noticed it drained pretty quickly when I was tuning it for high levels. I will do a test soon

Hey Oluv! Recent patron here, bought your recommendations (UBoom L, Micro 2) for my indoor, critical listening needs. I was looking for a larger speaker to attach a mixer into (deciding on either Blast or PB Encore), and have been wondering if AUX latency will be low for the UBoom X. If it has latency to some degree, I'd still pick it up someday to play my old CDs. Thanks for your hard work and looking forward to the official release. Also, can I recommend some commercial tracks for your tests? Cheers mate

oluvsgadgets

I will test latency over aux and sure any great tracks are always welcome so I get a bit of variety

Raelin Trenta

Thanks as always. For tracks, here's what I can think right now: Powerless - Summer Fragrance (Acoustic House) Dirty Androids - Puerto Dirty Androids - Coastal Breeze Dirty Androids - Praia Had a pleasant time listening on these on my UBoom L, quite curious how these sound on other speakers.

oluvsgadgets

Actually the response down to about 70hz is more or less the same as on the UBoom L just below the X plays constantly down to 40hz which makes the difference. I had it playing in the bathroom placed near a wall and it sounded quite decent but the sound was certainly big although not boomy.

Luka Bošnjak

Ok, that's absolutely fine then.

Will it be possible to link the X in stereo?

oluvsgadgets

During an 3 hour drive we were listening to the speaker at around 2/3 volume inside the car with indoor mode (the other modes appear too bassy inside a car) loudness is similar to the level shown in this video. Battery drained from 94% to 86% and later I did some short tests against the Partybox at higher levels up to maximum for about an hour with the battery finally going down to 68%. I will do a test with insane mode and maximum volume as soon as I have finished everything but I assume it won’t reach more than 2-3 hours at these levels although keep in mind that it is slightly louder than my Partybox in this mode.

Thanks Oluv. That seems sufficient to me, it would be deal breaker if it has battery life like the harman kardon onyx.. Is it possible to charge it with power bank or just 220V adapter?

oluvsgadgets

It has 5V usb-C so should charge with any powerbank albeit slower. I had to take some powerbank with me every time I did adjustments outdoors as the speaker needs to be connected for charging when you start the tuning app.

Lukáš Bartošek

Great news especially if 220V is nowhere near whole day.

oluvsgadgets

Do you find treble hotter than on the JBL Xtreme? I had to do this like that as I am often listening from the side etc and then treble appeared even missing. Even the UBoom L is hotter and far not as smooth.

Lukáš Bartošek

No, definitely not. JBL Extreme is way off (especially lower treble). Understand the reasoning, sadly dispersion of those tweeters is not as wide as it should. Would be interesting to measure polar response, I will ask "Erin's audio corner" if he is willing to measure some portable speakers on the Near field scanner.
