You can finally find my new 1st custom firmware for the UBoom X here.

Update: As some seem to prefer getting it from the shop, now I also made it available from the shop. Keep in mind that any purchase on Patreon done through the app on iOS will cost more, I would rather recommend to purchase through some browser, but upgrading to enthusiast gives you other benefits as most my EQs offered in the shop should be accessible as well. I also hope that once everything settled for the better, I can finally offer monthly EQs as well.

In this video I would like to demonstrate the differences in sound compared to another Uboom X running the original firmware by Earfun.

I hope you like the result. I tested it shortly today and didn't find any issues. In case you find some problem please let me know. Studio mode should definitely sound more neutral now than before, and all other modes are adjusted accordingly. I also tried to simplify all my settings a bit where it was possible, which may allow for better TWS performance now. When looking at Earfun's default sound setting it uses 110 MCPS, my indoor settings use 124 now, the outdoor settings about 134. Please let me know if you still have issues with 2 speakers playing in TWS stereo when using my custom firmware.

Based on the feedback from you I will try to do further tweaks for the upcoming firmware also adding dynamic EQ to the outdoor modes and replacing studio mode with desktop and improving Ground O for a more natural response when the speaker is placed at the ground outdoors. Also a 3rd firmware optimised for TWS performance will be added.

I hope you like the new sound as I think it's definitely an improvement, but not sure about the increased bass amount for indoor and indoor+ as compared to before. Please let me know your thoughts.

Excellent! I’m looking forward to the TWS optimized firmware with the stereo enhancement removed (because it’s not necessary for TWS). I’m especially interested in the Outdoor TWS EQ for listening to music around the swimming pool outside this summer. Thank you, Oluv!

Great work, I confirm your comment on the sound of the new speaker. Sound with more pronounced bass (most people will like it), with absolutely great mids and highs. The overall sound performance is cleaner, more legible and fuller and also, I hope, not only for me, much more interesting sonically.

I've been listening to the speaker for the last hour and I'm also very pleased with the new tuning, there's no longer any roll-off of the midrange like before, the additional bass in indoor mode in my opinion added fullness to the sound, but in indoor+ in my opinion there's a bit too much bass now, and maybe a little too much treble at higher volumes but overall the new firmware is a great improvement over the old one. Thanks a lot for further improving the speaker!

The new tunings sound wonderful! However, I do think the amount of bass for the indoor modes could be reduced slightly.

Do I really have to upgrade to enthusiast level to download the new firmware? Why is it not available in the Shop?

I will offer all 3 in the shop once finished, but as I already have so many who have the enthusiast level, I wanted to offer it like this. And enthusiast level has access to all my other EQs from the shop too so I think it’s a much better deal. And I hope to be able to offer the monthly EQs as promised before soon as well.

oluvsgadgets

That has to be seen how others perceive it. It’s not quite easy to judge it properly as the bass is boosted dynamically for the indoor modes so depending on the volume it may be more or less. But for the 2nd firmware I want to find the best compromise maybe with the help of others

oluvsgadgets

It's also in the shop now, as some seem to prefer it like that.

I installed the new firmware one of my units and compared them side by side. Its a MASSIVE improvement imo and not even subtle. I need to do some more testing at different placements to see what i think about the bass but what jumped out straight away was that the vocals took a step forward and are more clear and airy. When switching back to the old firmware its like putting a pillow over the singers mouth. Because of this i also always felt the bass was too pronounced because i had to raise the volume to hear the singer loud enough. I didnt use the earfun much recently because of that and prefered to listen to my sangean radio because of this. I knew something was off in the mids and couldnt believe that was your intention. Turns out i was right and it was just the production units being different. I cant believe you actualy came back to fix it. Amazing!

I put this reply in the firmware shop section, but I'll put it here, too for more visibility: "Yep, I installed this new firmware, and overall it's much better. A lot of what Gâscă and others have said below I agree with. Indoor+ now no longer has muddy/veiled mids and the treble is crisper, but the bass seems a tad bloated and almost shifted towards upper bass more? Outdoor used to be one of my favorite modes, but it seems to have lost some of its "punchiness" the old firmware had, and now the bass bleeds more into the midrange. But, I haven't listened enough."

Josh Barrie

I've listened more, and I've gotta say I'm impressed. I didn't like standard Indoor mode in the old firmware, but I do in this new one. You've fixed the muddiness everywhere, and it's much more enjoyable. Indoor+, I'm still loving, but it MIGHT have a TINY touch too much lower treble and/or upper midrange that gives a little bit of that "tin can effect", but I'd much rather this than the muddy/veiled sound of the old firmware. It's so much more open and airy! Upper bass may also be a tad too boosted now, since it can sometimes bleed into the midrange, but only on male vocals it seems.

Hey Oluv, as I am currently experiencing some hearing impairment recently (my left ear can't seem to hear 10-14khz that well when speakers are in facing in front of me, so I only have a better impression from my right ear) I'm only going to provide my general impressions after listening to the indoor modes. Studio sounds significantly better now, compared to the old firmware. the energy from the upper mids towards the treble is much clearer and smoother now, and female vocals don't seem to sound nasally anymore, which was my critique on the previous firmware's indoor modes. Indoor mode's dynamic EQ seems to sound better at lower volumes, and with the midrange correction just seems to sound more neutral overall. Indoor+ to me, just seems a bit harsh on the treble boost around 6-8khz, and with the increased bass, as mentioned by others, seems to be bleeding into the midrange a bit, when listening to male vocals. I do think that the above mentioned bass boost algorithm (Indoor+) is best implemented on the outdoor modes, as upon subjecting my UBoom X to a karaoke session (AUX port plugged into a mixer) I did find that mid-upper bass seems to be recessed on outdoor mode in particular, and I had to switch to BoomXxx to give a better bass impression. Outdoor+ to me works best when the speaker is placed on the ground for more mid bass. Looking forward to your 2nd firmware with desktop mode, with the dynamic EQ and stereo enhancement enabled for all indoor and outdoor modes (minus BoomXxx and Ground O). I'll follow up a reply once I get more listening time on the outdoor modes.

Raelin Trenta

After listening more, I do want to reduce the mid-deep bass on Indoor mode, and the treble rendering of Indoor+ seems a bit harsh on the lower treble, and I would want to reduce this slightly. I think the outdoor modes will stay as it is for me, as they serve its purpose (outdoor for mid bass boost, outdoor+ for the deepest and most controlled bass outdoors). Looking forward for these corrections on your 2nd firmware.

The new custom firmwares can only be installed via a Windows computer right Oluv? Do you know if running a Windows emulator on a Mac would work?

oluvsgadgets

I am not sure if an emulator would work, it definitely needs some USB drivers to be installed properly. I have bootcamp on my macbooks one of them with windows 11, the other one with windows 10 and both worked without issues.

oluvsgadgets

You are right, I forgot 1 filter for indoor+ that's why it appears slightly too harsh, I will try to correct for this, also reduced the area of 75hz a tiny bit for both indoor and indoor+, I hope I can get an updated version within the next days.

Niko

Tested today all versions but not yet outside. It is a huge improvement, the mid range is MUCH better. Indoor+ has a bit too much bass for my personal taste. Waiting for the updated version with reduced bass. Other than that... outstanding work Oluv, as always!!

Rory

So far I can not get the Media Tool to recognize the speaker using Parallels and Windows 11
