UBoom X new unit/custom firmware vs reference unit/original firmware (Patreon)

When listening to a production unit running the new custom firmware (at the left) compared to my original reference unit with my original firmware (at the right), I think that there is a noticeable improvement hearable compared to my initial tuning approach. Just imagine a tad less bass for the corrected version which should be available within the next days.

Sorry about the degraded audio quality, but my microphones started to behave at random recently. I will need to get several new pairs soon.

The 2 units i have sound exactly the same atleast. (Oktober/november last year) I wonder if all the newer units are different to the ones from a couple months ago or its just random. Im thinking of buying a 3rd unit to check this out. Regarding the final tuning i agree with ever so slightly less bass btw.

Hey Oluv, on the comparison between the pre-production unit and the production unit, I do think that your newer approach in tuning is much better to me. the overall energy from the mids to treble region is much more exciting, snare drums sound snappier, and vocals seem to cut through the music more. I can attest to this as my unit is also part of the first batch from October last year. Apart from the slightly boosted bass, the new firmware is just great for me, I also prefer having a bit of treble snappiness on my speakers. A bit of a compromise with regards to the sample variation, but I do think the comparison between the last year's unit vs. the newer one, at least on listening on this video, I didn't notice any huge difference on the overall sound between the two unless I really have to nitpick. Looking forward to the bass-corrected firmware, and cheers to your hard work!

Hi Oluv, I think the speaker sounds much better after the firmware update to version 0.48. My favorite setting is Indoor+ mode – everything sounds well-balanced and coherent here. I’d really prefer if you didn’t reduce the bass in this mode. To my ears, the tuning is spot on. The mids are especially impressive – it really feels like a curtain has been lifted. You’ve done a great job here, once again! As I mentioned before, I mostly use the Boom X in dual setup with two speakers in TWS mode. Unfortunately, there are still occasional dropouts – not as frequently as before, but still about every 3 to 5 minutes. The source I’m using is an iPhone 15 Pro Max, playing Apple Music in Lossless format.
