Thanks to everyone who purchased the new firmwares, I hope you are satisfied with the result. My favorite mode is the new Ground mode, I think it’s the most universal mode, with the speaker sounding round and punchy regardless of placement.

Some had noticed the sound too become too warm in small rooms, if that’s the case with the Studio mode as well, this means you cannot just do anything about this with that particular room or placement, I tried that to keep dynamic bass boost rather subtle for the indoor modes, but I also noticed with a placements closer to a corner or wall in a small room it can become too much. It would have needed an own small room mode then, which actually reduces bass in some regions to keep the sound better in balance in such situations, unfortunately this will never happen. In case I will ever have the chance to work on some other portable speaker again I will consider even more use cases to add additional modes.

I am still excepting some honest feedback from you, it would seem most are satisfied so far. On EBay some already offer the UBoom X for $700 and above 🤪

Hi Oluv, the 9.4.9 firmware is amazing. I actually wanted to write to you yesterday, but didn’t get the time. Somehow, “Ground” stuck with me the most, and now I don’t even need to switch between indoor, outdoor, etc. – this one setting works for everything, strangely enough. And Earfun are fools for discontinuing production. Although there are rumors that there will be another batch in mid-July? Could this be just an Earfun marketing trick with their “production discontinued” story? :D

JonnyB

I haven't tested the new firmware that much yet. I mostly use Indoor+, but after this I'll try Ground 0. By the way, I don't know if anyone else noticed, but Earfün finally fixed the bug (I think it was a bug) where the speaker only turned off after X minutes if the Bluetooth connection was interrupted. Finally, the timer now starts from the moment playback stops. Anyway, thanks for your work, Oluv, and have a great vacation!

oluvsgadgets

Thanks for the feedback. No, there is some stock which got stuck in customs and should arrive to Amazon in mid July according to Earfun.

I just wanted to share that after 1 year saving money I just buy the uboomx. I really enjoyed the uboom and ubooml specially in stereo mode. Putting them each side of my head layed down in a carpet or in bed is a different sensory experience but all this time I was hoping to have that deep bass range covered. Thanks a lot for your work, currently I'm not suscribed to your patreon due to money issues but I follow you since 7 o 8 years ago. Thanks a lot, my father was a talented musician here in Colombia and after he left us, having someone to learn more about this passion was very important to me. Thanks oluv for lal your work 🫰. My girlfriend is going to Germany in a couple of months, I'm happy that she is going to be happy there. Thanks for standing straight to the companys that just want to sell and consume work/time/life. Thanks oluv!!!

" ... Earfun are fools for discontinuing production ... " – I still can't believe it. They can't really be that foolish. Or can they? They haven't even released the 0.48 factory firmware yet. I wonder why?

JonnyB

OK, but where a weaker speaker (Boom 2 Plus) can be sold for around €150-200, why isn't the Uboom X selling? Who is to blame (rhetorical question)?

oluvsgadgets

Maybe me, so much hate towards me everywhere

JonnyB

Don't be ridiculous! I don't want to describe again (I think you know) what Earfün did wrong at the beginning (in short: everything). The fact that this speaker became widely known and people bought it is solely due to your tuning. I can't think of any YouTube tests that didn't use Oluv's presets. By the way, have you tried Tribit? I see the most potential in that brand right now. I think Soundcore has given up on the "perfect speaker" question. They prefer to rely on marketing.

oluvsgadgets

Tribit has their own engineers. The Lava is pretty decent

Marioragcurtain

Lovely to see you guys having fun together🤗 I still cant find any flaws in the new firmwares. It all sounds great to me and its such an upgrade compared to the official firmware. Ofcourse it would be nice to have more placement options like the vifa oslo for example for more or less bass. but i can always use my qudelix 5k if i really need less bass..

Gintautas Gečas

Tribit may have their own engineers, but what exactly they’re doing there — I have no idea. The Micro 2, Blast, and the current Stormbox Lava are the only successful models. The Blast2 is a complete failure. Looking at their sales, at least on Amazon.de, they’re also very small compared to the thousands of units sold of things like the Soundcore Boom2, Boom2 Plus, and similar. Oluv, maybe some brand like W-King would agree to cooperate? Their hardware looks pretty good, only the tuning is terrible as well. In short, we want continuity with other products! :D

JonnyB

That's right! They may have engineers, but are they good enough? Their smaller speakers (e.g., XSound Plus and MaxSound Plus) are generally good, and the first Blast was also quite successful (although I read here that it took a few firmware updates to "mature"), but Blast 2 is a disappointment. The LAVA is an interesting piece. It's not bad, it has deep bass (especially at lower volumes), but even there it's a long way from the musical "clarity" of the Uboom X. What's quite disturbing/surprising is that the not-so-new Boom 2, especially at higher volumes and outdoors (see Joy's test), not only gives it a run for its money, but also beats it. Of course, this could be a hardware problem as well as a tuning issue... Would the W-King be good in terms of hardware? I don't know. You may be right, although my impression is that this brand is closer to Tronsmart. In other words, they try to compensate for the not-so-high-quality components and, one might say, the complete lack of tuning with a lot of speakers and a nice exterior.

Skyzeworld

I'm a bit scared because I would like to buy another one for stereo, but I can't afford another one for the moment, and since you said that they stopped production I don't know when it will be out of stock... I ordered mine in november and I love it so so much and even more with your tuning, and thx for all your work around it.

pokketa

Hi Oluv, do you still have Uboom X code? Wanna get a third one before it is gone and want to support you.

oluvsgadgets

UBOOMXXX but it only works on Amazon. Doesn’t work on the Earfun site anymore

Mario Strugger

MfG

Filip Baran

Hi ! I've got question about 9.4.9 firmware. Names of the ground mode and "desktop" mode should be changed? I can hear big sound difference, studio mode isnt just flat like i it used to be with orginal firmware. Regards:)

oluvsgadgets

The names are not changed, as this would require to change the app

oluvsgadgets

Xsound Go and MaxSound Plus were still tuned by Earfun engineers, also the Stormbox which I helped tuning, then Earfun separated from Tribit

JonnyB

Are you serious? I didn't know, I hadn't heard about it... Do you think MaxSound Plus is a well-tuned speaker? I'd be interested in your honest answer. And if so, why can't the ex-Tribit engineers at Earfün do something similar? And where are all the good engineers who not only listen to speakers but also hear them? And what about Soundcore? Have you tried them, or are you not interested in dealing with this whole thing for a while?

oluvsgadgets

MaxSound plus was decent 10 years back, it’s still ok but I there are better speakers now

D.G.O

Hi Oluv. Have any updates on your own headphones? If so, what can you tell us about them? I’m excited to hear more updates!

oluvsgadgets

It’s financially impossible for me to release a product like this.

D.G.O

What do you mean it’s impossible? I thought everything was going great for you and your headphones project. What happened? Hopefully you can tell us the situation about it soon. Sad to hear that. I was so excited about it.

oluvsgadgets

The production costs a fortune and seeing the attitude of people criticising me to pay 17 bucks for a firmware, I simply see no chance of selling a headphone on a preorder basis, where people need to pay 10 times as much. It’s simple as that. Also seeing the „success” of the UBoom X getting discontinued after less than 1 year just proves that people don’t care.

D.G.O

That’s sounds sad, man. Hope you would be able to achieve this project some day. I myself plan to get 2 UBOOM X speakers, so I can use them in stereo with your TWS firmware. My support is still standing Oluv, you have people who do care for your work. Keep up the good work!! :)

oluvsgadgets

I hope you can still get some, they seem to be out of stock already in most stores. Also discount codes do not work anymore

Josh Barrie

Have you thought of doing a GoFundMe or a KickStarter for this, then doing some sort of social media campaign to get it going?

D.G.O

Sounds good at first, but as Oluv said, not a lot of people care so, i don’t think it could really work well. :(

Marioragcurtain

I can recommend that. 2 in stereo sound really good with the tws firmware. It makes a big difference especialy compared to the official firmware. I used a pair of edifier s3000pros before i sold them and i prefer 2 uboom x. You should be able to still order them from the earfun website i think.

JonnyB

I have another technical question: how does the Uboom X's DSP work? Does it monitor the volume of the device or the signal strength (spectrum analysis)? I may be expressing myself incorrectly, so I'll give an example: let's say the device is connected to the source via line input. In this case, does it matter whether I turn the volume of the source to maximum (or to the level that corresponds to the line input) or its speaker?

Bastian

Why are you surprised that people are unhappy about being charged an additional €17 for something that should have been done in advance? Your name is on the product. Even if it’s not directly your fault, it would still be a good idea to take responsibility and make things right. I can understand the frustration very well—I purchased everything from you and am deeply dissatisfied with the result. What you consistently show in your videos does not reflect the reality in any way.

oluvsgadgets

Nobody forces you to buy anything. It’s 17€, I had to pay 18€ for a day of parking space in Croatia. If you cannot afford it just get some no name speaker.

Bastian

Maybe you didn’t read my comment carefully. I bought everything from you, yet I’m still not satisfied with the result — my UBoom X models sound nothing like yours. Still, you’re promoting it as if one firmware fits all versions, which only creates confusion and frustration with all this back and forth.

oluvsgadgets

You complained from the very beginning and always had one problem or another. Get some JBL Boombox instead and maybe be happy then. What the fuck are you complaining about? A cheap Chinese boombox tuned by some hobbyist which costs less than a JBL Flip. I have 6 units and aside of my very first one they sound about the same. Please get the fuck out of here and get some serious gear instead from Bose, Sony or Marshall…

Marioragcurtain

I dont think its Oluvs fault the pre production unit he tuned sound different from the production units. I would be frustrated if i put in all that work to have it partly screwed up like that. The fact he came back to fix it is praiseworthy imo and shows his passion for good audio. I would not have bought a 3rd one and used it as much anymore without these new firmwares. So i was happy to pay for it actualy. I still have 3 great sounding speakers for the price of 1 jbl boombox that i think is ugly anyway..

Dennis.M

Der funktioniert leider auch nicht mehr auf Amazon, zumindest bei mir. Unglaublich dreist von Earfun...

Termite bass

You have made this speaker sound insane. It’s made other speakers unlistenable honestly. You have a real knack for sound. Cheers!
