In this first podcast we will listen to 4 headphones to find out which sounds best or worst. Included are the Apple Airpods Max 2024, the Sennheiser HDB630, the Sony WH-1000XM6 and I also added the NH1n with my most recent tuning. All headphones are playing with their default factory settings, just the NH1n is set to its bass mode to make it more comparable to the others.

Curious to hear your opinion which you think sounded worst or if you can even recognize them all correctly?

Please let me know how you like this new format. It's way easier for me to prepare audio content for you like this.

1. Super bassy, bloated, muddy -- probably the Sony. 2. "Tin Can" sound, muffled, sounds super compressed and weird/off (the worst) -- maybe the Airpods. 3. Too upper-midrange/treble-forward, peaky, piercing, less bassy -- probably the HDB630. 4. This is the NH1n I assume, most airy, balanced, smooth and least fatiguing. (EDIT: I realized I got my #3 and #4 mixed up in order I posted them, LOL!)

Disclaimer: Unfortunately, I am using my Anker Soundcore Space A40 Bluetooth earbuds to listen (with Wavelet AutoEQ set to that model), so it may be misrepresenting the sound a bit.

I re-listened with my E-Mu Teaks connected to my laptop via a DAC + using HeSuVi/Equalizer APO -- the differences are even MORE pronounced, and reinforced my initial findings/beliefs. Man, I am 100% assuming #4 is your NH1n set -- because it sounds very good and definitely best to me. Though, your KH80's sound flatter than all of them -- but the lack of bass is not as pleasing to me (I prefer a little bit more of a U-shape or W-shape to my curve). I hope I'm right, LOL! (PS -- You might want to do a tiny/very short fade-out/fade-in between the different headphones, just so it is more clear when they switch. Some people may get a little confused with less discerning gear. I am talking like a 0.25 second thing.)

1 - Sony (boomy, completely muffled) ; 2 - Apple (boomy, no upper mids, too V-Shaped ); 3 - Sennheiser ( not as bad as the others, but also boomy and muffled); 4-Oluv'Sone (neutral sound, just like the KH80, smoother and more transparent than the Sennheiser)

4th sounds definitely better to my ears, closer to the KH80 sample, but a bit bassier. I assume they're NH1. The rest are simply off: 1. Too boomy and v-shaped (Sony?); 2. Weird treble, too sizzling (Apple?); 3. More acceptable, but there's something wrong in the mids that makes them sound narrow (Sennheiser?). Nice post.

1. sony, its just a mess if you dont mess up in eq 2. apple airpods max, not horrible but neither really great 3. sennheiser, not bad, quite good actually but lacks a proper tuning, a bit of resolution overall 4. nhn1, pretty much just perfect

MMMM

I wish you would tell which is number 1 2 and so on, but don’t reveal the name. I think 4th if I’m right is nhn1 but I got kinda lost later on…. It did sound the most natural.

I can't wait to get the 4th 😁

1. underwater sound profile for fishes, I'm sure it's the Sony. 2. slightly better then 1 but still so weird, very bad treble and too much bass, it's the Apple. 3. much better then first two, a veil openes up and finally it starts to sound decent. I'm guessing it's the Sennheiser 630. 4. best of the best. I recognise this open feeling of the sound which i love from Oluv EQ's I have. Everything else sounds closed and boxy after knowing this. It's the NH1n.

I like the 4th the best Then the 2nd Then 1st (apple?) and last place goes to 3rd

Afaik, the apple airpods have adaptive EQ, no? It boosts or lessens the bass according to the volume you listen and you can't turn it off.
