Today we will test the new KEF Muo, which is an upgraded model over the old one I tested several years back. KEF claims it to offer bass response down to 43hz with -3dB which would be quite a bit more impressive than the searius which maybe offers 45hz at -6dB. With 270€ the price is definitely steep, so let's check how premium the sound really is. I added my searius sample for comparison which I think sounds pretty nice in the meantime after having tweaked my settings even more. For fun I also added the ancient Bose Soundlink Mini II SE at the very end.

KEF is such a joke company. whatever they touch goes to shit. people still buy it because they think "it looks good" and "the brand was mentioned in magazines", but in reality they tune their gear to sound just good enough and sell their lack of dynamics as "neutral". thanks for telling the audience how much the roommodes affect your general recording at minute 6:00 the searious sounds 3 times larger than the kef because of the roommode droning lol. i personally enjoy the comparison at 12:13 and 15:30. the bass is really unusable. xD the muo seems also to suffer from a very high input delay.

Richard

so overall i think we can agree that we can wholeheartedly recommend the kef muo at 6cm listening position at volume step 3.

Comparison between Searius and Kef reminds me of that 1. April joke you did long ago with bose micro woofer array or whatever it was, because the difference here is embarrassing. Most embarrassing are the paid reviews actually, maby I've said this but one basically cannot find an objective review for anything today (apart from here xD), and if you make a negative review, big companies will make sure to end that reviewers job. I'd be curious to hear one iLoud Micro against Searius also at higher volumes...

Richard

exactly. it makes perfectly zero sense to review any headphone in terms of Soundquality, if it is not hrtf adjusted by precise EQ in that same review. manual eq will always result in a Superior listening experience.

Wow, you really a Dick ! :-D I happen to listen to my music through a couple of KEF LS50W 2s and a sub and the music is immaculate. Do you usually buy Bose...? *** sorry for my bad language :-/

I don’t know, I had the LS50 at home and they sounded hollow and weird.

Marcus Wendland

Hi, yes they are a bit unexciting at first, but after a little EQ to lift the highs, and with the nicely phased lows from the sub (SVS300) I love them. I compared them to the Beosound Balance and they do lack a dynamic sound, or "richness" but under load with the sub the LSW50s midrange, esp. vocals are beautifully clear and loud. My opinion of course! :-)

Richard

That's the thing. the kefs have no high-end detail. even if you lift it with eq, it doesn't magically resolve the missing frequencies it unable to render. they are very unmusical or unresolving speakers and just warm and simply too forgiving in my opinion. they seem like tuned to a sound that just looks for a compromise for bad recordings.

i was tempted by this one, but the price is tooo much, esp considering what is already on the market. I'm lucky to have a ViFa Helsinki in blue (with USB C power adapter), so the others have to be GOOD.... :-))

Ok, that may be fair to say. I think that the high end is right for me, as I play it outside pretty loud and want to avoid fatigue amongst other noise. I find that better with conversation & high quality music together. Always, the speaker placement / orientation is the priority. But horses for courses of course ! :-D

Richard

I kinda get that point and can relate to ot. they are not nervous sounding for sure and give a mature taste for those who like it I can imagine. they are bold without sounding dark. quadral speaker do that too but also give sweetness to the high-end details. this is for serious listening though. not passive listening. also what I suggest anyone is to couple their bookshelf speakers with some minidsp. this thing was a true blessing for me. with that thing you can make anything sound way above their weight
