Thanks for the video, Oluv! To anyone who have tried Q30. I'm thinking of getting it for my 11 year old. I'm a bit concerned that they are going to be too large as the band does not seam to be adjustable for small head sizes. Hope someone could help to clarify that. Thanks! :-)

Listening to tangerine dream love on a train on the earfun oluv edition. Sublime.. also smokey Robinson stripped album yesterday too. Oooh now insomnia by faithless.

Based on the Youtube comments so far many seem to prefer the B&W… wtf? Maybe my ears are really that off!

Oliver

Klasse Video ! Deine Earfun sind deutlich besser in der abstimmung, gehört mit meinen Monolith M350.

Daniel

Die kef's klingen echt schrecklich..

To my ears KEF is absolute garbage, Samsung if it has an eq to adjust it a bit I could live with maybe, but Earfun takes it easy, its incredible how natural you were able to make them sound. Now I really wonder how they would sound in my ears, because most of BT in ears I ever tried, sound like treble cannons in my ears.

Gary Ong

KEF sounds the worst to me. B&W quite boomy and buds pro with some wierd treble. Earfun sounds pretty good and closest to original recording.

Gary Ong

I think its because KEF which is the worst of the bunch is played directly after the B&W

Abraham Lee

After hearing each sample, I can honestly say I felt exactly as you described your experience. I think part of the confusion in the YouTube comments is because the comparison is to *each other* most of the time rather than the original track. So, going from B&W then to KEF, I felt the same way, but that’s because the B&W *was* the reference sound signature. It wasn’t until after the OE Pro, when you played the original, that I could see why the OE Pro is my favorite of the bunch. So, I wonder if you need to start with the original so we know what it’s supposed to sound like, then alternate between a headphone and the original again, then the next headphone, then the original, etc. For this specific video, I realize it would have made for a rather long comparison, but I think it would have made it waaaaaay more obvious from the get go that the B&W are overdoing the upper bass, that the KEF is too harsh in the treble, etc. Maybe try something like that next time? I’m pretty sure it would have clarified the comparison much better for me. My 2 cents. Keep up the awesome work!

Ro

The KEF sound the worst by far.

oluvsgadgets

I even wanted to omit the original recording and just compare all to each other as for me the coloration is pretty obvious anyhow, and while the Earfun also colours the sound, to me it sounds even more pleasant than the reference track in some cases. But as I said in the video you need to have a reference in mind. Otherwise people will think the more bassheavy and treble boosted one sounds better which indeed was the result.

Simon Hibbert

I think its a mix of age related ears and some can't handle that you can get dynamic sound in a 70 dollar in ear. Too many choices of listening. Remember when so many people were buying beats headphones? So they were custom to that sound signature.

Simon Hibbert

Very valid points you make there. Totally agree.

Daniel

Imo people may like the B&Os because the first two recordings are pretty bass light by themselves which is compensated by the boosted Bass of the B&Os. So even if it may sound better than the original recording it is obviously colored - exactly what headphones should NOT do. I think many people do not understand that proper equalizing, mixing and mastering of the track is the job of the audio engineers, not of the headphones, which should just have a natural response. To me it seems pretty obvious that the earfuns are the closest to the original recording.

oluvsgadgets

I wouldn’t say the recordings are bass light, I perceive them as perfectly balanced compared to most of the boomy and distorted stuff which is produced nowadays. But those boomy recordings played over a boomy headphone makes it even worse. Therefore I don’t quite understand the aim towards boosted bass all the time. It’s just a thing of getting used to a particular type of sound. Imagine I was always listening with boosted subs to maximum inside my car. Then any decent stereo system with neural sound would like crap to me, and it seems it’s indeed the case in many cases

Daniel

That's exactly the thing, It's like a vicious circle.. People are used to bass-heavy targets because of bass-heavy headphones what results in companies like anker boosting the bass of their q35 because they think that is what people want.. I mean like wtf

Marioragcurtain

Im getting a bit confused to how well i hear the earfun compared to you now. When i do a sinesweep it follows the measurement with only a peak at 7-7,5 then drops a bit at 9khz before going back up at 10. The etymotics go through this whole region without any peaks and valleys but with the hd600 and q30 i do get something similar to the earfun. So my question is do you pretty much get the same thing with the earfuns as with the etymotics or do you still get some volume changes like the hd600 and q30? They all sound good to me but the etymotics seem the most correct and realistic because they are so perfectly smooth.

Marioragcurtain

I think there is a chance they might be too big but i think i saw Oluvs son wear them in a video.

Gary Ong

you should do an anker soundcore life q30/35 oluv edition.

oluvsgadgets

I asked them if they wanted to include my EQ within the presets as all their presets are close to unusable but they were not interested thus it’s quite unlike that there will ever be some kind of collaboration with them

oluvsgadgets

I should try the Etymotic again, haven’t used it for quite a while as I have issues with that deep insertion.

oluvsgadgets

I tried the Earfun with a sweep now and I get a drop at 7-7.5k it definitely has the lowest amplitude in this frequency range. The only peak I am really hearing is around 2.7k but that’s the natural ear resonance which always appears louder.

oluvsgadgets

It starts to raise until 6k and then drops above 6.5 until 8K to raise again slightly above 8.k.

oluvsgadgets

Just tired the Etymotic and I am getting pretty much the same with the lowest amplitude around 7.5-8K. I think the measurement I showed in the video is pretty close to what I am hearing in real life, you maybe get a response which is more similar to the measurements done by others which would correspond to a deeper insertion or different ear canal length. It’s all not easy, I am not a scientist to know exactly what happens here but as I tuned it with my ear it definitely should give the best results with my own ears.

Marioragcurtain

Thats what i suspected. The peak you get around 9khz seems to be at 7-7,5 for me and after that i dont get much at 9 because you lowered that for your ears. The loudest part for me is 4khz, then it drops until 6-6,5 then peaks at 7-7,5 and then dips between 8 and 10 no matter how deep or shallow the fit. So while the overal balance is nice and it sounds good to me i couldnt help but feel something was missing compared to the etys. I think this is probably what Super review was talking about when he called it slightly dark in the lower treble. He probably also has the peak shifted like that compared to you. He likes the etymotics a lot so nothing wrong with his taste. The earfun still sound very good to me overall but i can immagine how they sound even better for you.

oluvsgadgets

I think it’s a limit of the acoustic design of this particular model. I am sure I could have got better and more consistent results with a different design.

Marioragcurtain

That could be a factor allthough i think it has more to do with the shape of the ears. We would probably also get different results when measuring the hd600 with our ears but still we both perceive it as normal because our ears are used to that shape. I think only with deep insertion we truly get exactly the same sound at the eardrum eventhough thats also slightly different from listening to flat speakers in a room if you know what i mean. Maybe im fooling myself here but i just find it interesting.

Konrad P

It was a video with bose700

Marcus Rother

I always wanted to say, that it would be great if there would be the original track played between all single mic samples. At least once you already did that.

Eugene du Toit

Oluv, dis you measure the Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro? Which of the EQ is the most usable or closest to your reference curve? The normal one is ok, bit a bit unnatural.

oluvsgadgets

There is no iOS app so I used just the default one I think

Henk Scheerooren
