It’s quite an interesting topic: can cheap speakers sound better in a more dampened room than expensive ones in an empty room?

The room acoustic is often overlooked by many audio enthusiasts investing mostly into the best cables and newest gadgets but ignoring the fact that the room will have the most influence on the final perceived sound.

As a future project I would like to visit some of my Patrons who are proud of their audio setups and record their entire setups to be able to compare the results including speakers, amps but also the given rooms to each other. Let’s then vote for the best sounding setup…

Just an idea!

Audio Pro A36 & Kii Three - different speakers/different rooms

Hi, how would something like a Vifa Stockholm 2.0 sound in comparison with these Kii three speakers in the same room? Are the Kii's really worth 40x the price? Also nice idea...

I didn't watch this video yet. But I thought about mentioning the horrible room situation of these expensive speakers in the Kopfhörerboutique. Thank you for that comparison. nice idea! :-)

I have had one Audio Pro product. It was so bad quality that I really had to throw it to garbage bin.

Great comparison Oluv, really shows the difference the room makes. Also have the A36 and do enjoy them quite a bit. Only downside is some issues with HDMI - tried plugging in a Google Chromecast direct however music won't play. Would have thought ARC and direct HDMI device would work almost the same?

If you've ever had the misfortune to work inside an anechoic chamber, you'll know that the direct sound that comes from a speaker is a small fraction of the total sound you hear in a room. Actually in an anechoic chamber, music sounds horrible and alien because there are no reflections. You'd think that it would sound like headphones, but it doesn't - it feels like the life has been sucked out of you. There are differences again between pro and domestic setups. Generally studio setups concentrate on minimising side reflections, and ensuring that those reflections are equal across the frequency spectrum. Most of the effort goes into getting the bass right. Here the Kiis help by reducing the bass energy that is thrown into the room, and they instead focus it forwards to the listener. The focus in a studio is accuracy and repeatability. In domestic environments you either have living compromises - you don't have a dedicated listening room, or if you have a room, generally these are overdamped at the mid and HF, and underdamped at LF. In either case, the choice of loudspeaker will either add to, or subtract from the sound, depending on how much energy it spills off to the sides and back, and how unequal that energy is across the spectrum. So given that most people can't change their rooms, you can see why there is such a wide range of "this is the best speaker" comments. Everybody's mileage will vary :)

Unfortunately I have never experienced a true anechoic chamber. But it could be interesting to visit some users and record their setups with exactly the same playlist. I would just need to set on a particular song selection that would remain constant all the time

I have mine at the ARC port of my TV and it always worked well. Never tried it plugging it into a regular HDMI port

I think you really have the recording method nailed down, it was very easy to hear the difference. I don't know anyone else who can produce this high quality with a binaural setup. I want to give a big thumbs up for the idea! I think it would be very interesting to compare systems.
