When I'm designing a map for an encounter, I always try to put some interesting terrain or large items in the area that can provide cover or obstacles for movement. I don't think I've ever just played on a flat ground, other than in theatre of the mind play of course. But, while painting this image and thinking about encounters on a flat beach I remember a few scenes from the show Vikings, and a battle in one of the Robin Hood movies that were on a beach and was so inspired to run an encounter here. I may have reencoded my own thinking about encounter design with this image, and a different approach, focusing on environment over terrain.

I hope this image inspires some of you to do the same and run a beach encounter. Lemme know if it inspires any ideas for interesting encounter design.

Very nice job. I'm going to come up with stats for beach birds in this image...monsters I'm going to call Sea Turkeys. LOL jk

This piece is really nice. Could be useful in a epilogue of CoS, if the mists lift. Made me wonder if someday maybe you could do a sunset at Ravenloft, would be really cool :) ♥
