Sukuna implies that Mahoraga would have beaten him in episode 5, when Megumi was about to summon him, but didn't because Yuji sacrificed his life. So Mahoraga would have beaten the 3-fingered Sukuna, not the original Sukuna from the past era.

"YOU would have defeated me back then" means back then in Ep 2 i think, where megumi fights sukuna the first time, because he only had 1or 2 fingers. Also a nice easteregg: The summoning phrase and pose of megumi to summon maghora has been shown i think 2 times already. Megumi considered using maghora already twice in S1, (when exactly is for u to find out ;) - And put some more respect on Gojo :D he would have won against maghora. Also Sukuna more or less toyed with maghora in this whole fight until domain expansion.

Sukuna has 15 fingers hes at 75 % of his strenght and his true form is his strongest one when it was stated in the 2nd ep that hes a being with 4 arms and 2 faces

I think what Sukuna meant by ''You would have beaten me back then'' was reffering to Sukuna and Fushiguro previous fight. Remember they fought is season 1? It was when Itadori, Megumi and Nobara were sent to deal with the Cursed Womb in like episode 3 or 4, Itadori switched to Sukuna and Megumi fought him for a bit. Megumi at the end started to chant "Sacred treasure swing and ring'' to summon Mahoraga but stopped becouse Itadori was in control of the body again. If you watch seaosn 1 again after this, you''ll notice that there were actually few situation's in which Fushiguro was about to summon Mahoraga but stopped himself every time

Oh yeah and Itadori at the end is just a brilliant scene, it's the momment when our cheery, always happy and silly Itadori get BROKEN by Sukuna's brutality

Sorry for all the comment's but as i watch the discussion at the end i keep having more to say xD Gojo said that leaders of Gojo and Zenin clan had a fight and went serious, it's not that Gojo tried to help Zenin subjugate Mahorga, Zenin just summoned Mahorga to beat Gojo (and succeded, tho at the cost of his own life). You can only subjugate a shikigami if you are the only one participating in the Subjugation Ritual, if you drag someone else with you in the ritual, then the ritual is pointless, even if you defeat the shikigami you wont have control over it, you must do this alone

Its suttle but throughout the show when Megumi is in near death situations he starts to summon Mahoraga. The first time he is about to do it is when Sukuna rips Itadori's heart out in the beginning of the first season. Thats the time he's referencing to when he says you would have beat me back then. Next 3 episodes is peak voice acting. If these last 2 episodes are the best fights the next 3 are the most emotional.

Don't know if anyone has heard of the series "the nephilim looked like clowns" on youtube but Sukuna's character is definetly inspired by the nephilim.

There’s no overlap or influence from that series. He’s more inspired by Japanese mythology and folklore.

I think you people confuse yourself while being right. The ritual was at the expense of Fushiguro's life, he will summon this shikigami to fight his opponent to death. And when his opponent dies meaning the ritual is successful, so fushiguro also died. But Sukuna "an outsider" defeats it meaning the ritual is unsuccessful as it's purpose was not achieved, allowing Fushiguro to live. That is what gojo meant when he talked about those clan heads. The clan head summoned it to killed the former Gojo and well, it killed the Former Gojo and the ritual being successful took the other clan head's life. I hope you understood. I remember seeing this fight for the first time and just being in absolute shock. Really shows the ability of showing a fight in anime vs. other formats. It really hits different and it's one of the best episodes in all anime ever. Seriously amazing.

I agree with you, Mappa's (studio) animation style is weird sometimes, I can't keep up with what's going on the screen or who is attacking who bcs they change the animation style way too much. I noticed this with chainsaw man recent movie as well. And now they have changed the animation style for season 3 that is coming again. I feel like I'm watching different anime each time.

This episode was enjoyable for me, solely because I couldn't tell what was going on. It was just straight up chaos, so much so that i didn't mind that the animation looked all over the place. In my opinion, the animation didn't take away from the sheer scale of distruction that Sukuna caused.

I have nothing against JJk, I'm talking about the studio and their style in animation. Take for example AOT, when WIT studio worked on the first season the animation was top tier but then MAPPA came in and ruined the anime with their cgi and changed it to their style. Sometimes it's better to keep the original format if it's doing a fantastic job already. And you saying jjk has better animation than ds is funny, i have many friends and they always praise demon slayer for it's animation, meanwhile never heard the same about jjk. It's an objective fact that demon slayer is number 1 when it comes to animation in the anime industry.
