I’ve watched both dubbed and subbed. Of course there’s a whole different vibe from the original Japanese audio but the English dubbed is pretty frickin good!! I would say stick with the English dub since its easier for you guys to follow and react to. If you want in your own time you can watch it again in sub (especially since it’s not a long anime). Honestly I feel like you guys would retain more. ❤️

I watched in sub so I wouldn't mind rewatching here in dub, especially for something that has a decent dub like death note , it has its moments and those moments are great (Lights voice sounds better as kira) - if you enjoy it then I dont think many people would have a problem with it.

I agree with Charlie saying it might be cause he’s used to the Japanese. I’ve found that if I start an anime in Japanese subbed and then switch to English, the change is more dramatic and in your face where as when I watch an anime in English from start to finish it’s really not that bad.

Sadly the dub is a no go for me. While Death Note dub is great, the switch 18 episodes in is quite jarring. Also, for future shows, i'd rather get a greater experience with the right voices compared to a lesser experience for an easier viewing. I always prefer media in their native languages. Dub in death note is fine, but in majority of anime dub is just a cringe fest

Guys yes, PLEASE rewatch AOT! It has the most insane rewatch value, you guys will see so much foreshadowing that is impossible to spot in the first watch! (Even on my third and fourth rewatch I noticed things for the first time)

The dub for death note is good but I do feel overall the original Japanese is better but that's me personally. I think the dub is tolerable for Death Note since it's a bit more grounded only with the occasional exaggerated scene while I think watching an anime like Demon Slayer or Jujutsu Kaisen you should definitely stick with the Japanese as I feel the English just doesn't work and feels out of place in those shows. It's up to you guys though, whatever you think would be the best way for you to enjoy the show is the correct choice!

You said it's easier to follow the story with english va, but I'd say you are doing great with japanese va (in this anime at least). So I dont think it's necessary to switch, but if you like it more- sure, switch to english. It's my first time watching DN in english and it's not terrible (ofc original is better tho)

Death note is also my favorite anime. It's my first anime. I love AOT but Death note is my number one. Death Note is also a favorite anime of many people, like Pewdiepie and Elon Musk.

In my opinion, the original language will always be the best. Cultural references and certain social interactions between characters that are (in this case) typically Japanese do not translate well when dubbed. And this is for all Anime. If you are going to use Dub, I think it should be done from the very start of an anime. Google if the dub is considered good or bad, and then make a decision based on your preferences before staring the show. :)

Yay so pleased you've switched to dub! Really hope it continues. Re Light's voice bear in mind it's less Troy Bolton vibes when he's in Kira mode. Plus Ryuk's voice actor is fire and you haven't heard him yet 🔥

Keep going like this. It’s obviously easier for everyone to understand what they’re watching in their own language. Listening to an unfamiliar language, translating it in your head, and watching the anime at the same time can be difficult, and it’s easy to miss some details. I just want to see your genuine reactions to the anime. If I were watching it by myself, I’d switch to Japanese on my own anyway. So just watch it however you guys want, and share your honest thoughts and reactions.

In the English dub its way easier to pick up on the comedic delivery in the voice acting compared to listening in the original language, I definitely noticed them laughing a lot more then usual as now they're able to understand the underlying humor or sarcasm or tone ect. of what is being said better then in the sub.

I don't like the Death Note dub, especially Light. He sounds way more like an edgelord than he needs to and it comes off as unnatural. The original VA is way more composed. L is way too goofy when he should be monotone and tired-sounding. Overall it really doesn't compare to the original. And I know it all comes down to preference but I will argue for watching it in the language it was originally made in every time, whatever it may be, as you convert something more and more, it changes like a game of telephone, and me personally I want to be as close as possible to the creator's vision.

It’s your guys decision It’s pretty 50/50 split in this fandom on how they like to watch this anime so no matter witch one you guys choose you’ll have someone in your ear telling you they watch it a different way lol I personally love the dub l feel like it brings out the characters peronalty better but the end of the day it’s simply a preference

Well the thing is the emotions and originality and character’s voice plus the cultural context works better in Japanese. So my suggestion is that we should keep original voices and sub as we did before, as we already got used to their distinct voices because it was obvious that you guys were confused on who’s talking which is natural cuz you switched voices, but it would take so much time to adjust again and I wanna be able to focus on the storyline instead as we always did. Let’s not miss the story please and keep it subbed!

I love dubbed death note its amazing ive watched both. The dub has many viral moments as its amazing. I think you should stick to the dub. HOWEVER, alot of animes dont have great dubs at all and defintly not to the standard that death note's dub is so please look at comments first and dont default to english for every new anime!

I know this might be a controversial take, but I think you should watch in whichever language lets you pick up on more details and subtleties and feels most comfortable to you. That’s why I vote for sticking with the dub.

Well I think that’s not even an issue. In fact, ironically, many things including the tones and emotional reactions etc. get lost in translation and were presented with different characters. This is actually true irl too, when you speak in / switch to a different language, your personality changes too. Plus, they were able to follow along the story so far up until now. They always watched everything in original language. And actually subs while listening to foreign language make you more attentive to the story since you can’t miss reading a line. Plus, the emotions, naturalness and the whole vibe of Death Note, not to mention THE ONE WE USED TO UNTIL NOW, is all about this. It would be so unfair to switch now, because we already started subbed and this came out of nowhere to be honest. Plus, they are watching it for the first time, so I think it’s more important to keep going as we already have and instead of trying to adjust new voices, we should focus on story itself and these episodes are actually crucial. It’s not like we’re just starting! They can always rewatch with dub. Just like they mentioned rewatching AOT. But for the audience’s sake, the right move would be to stuck with the original. Because you also should consider the annoyance of someone having to go through with the rest of the eps from a sudden change without even opinions asked, and all while disliking the dub. Everyone were already watching it with the sub and original voice, but honestly it’s very likely that most people won’t be able to stand it if they keep going with dub (for example, me).

That might be the case for you. For me, the original wins. But don’t forget that I’m talking about every other character, emotion, and vibes as well. We all agree that sub and dub are different, and my main point is also about switching it in the middle of the show. If they were gonna do this they should have been a vote for everyone before starting. But as they said, anime are always better with original. It gets cringe quickly when dubbed and we’re missing on the storyline.

I am currently watching Death Note in dub, and I really like it!! Usually, I watch both the dub and the sub to see which is better, but for this one, I really like the dub.

You can do the Dub version reaction LATER after finishing the Sub version first, without having to deal with any CONTROVERSIAL comments like you see here. You guys were just talking about an AOT re-watch reaction, so you can do Death Note twice (both Sub and Dub) as well. Importantly, you argued that you could understand the situation better in the Dub, but you had totally no idea why Aizawa cried at the end. I can see that the subtle emotion between L and Aizawa was not translated at all. I already started wanting you to repeat ep18 in Sub version. I am not sure if the subtitled version would do better, which is why I really want you to try both.
