The main actress Park Eun-bin I basically grew up watching her dramas , she's been acting since she was a kid debuting around 1998. She's a very versatile actress , the director of Extraordinary Attorney Woo wanted exactly her for this role because playing an attorney on the autism spectrum requires a massive amount of nuance, empathy, and emotional intelligence. If the acting had been just a little bit off, the character could have easily come across as disrespectful or unnatural. The director knew Park Eun-bin's reputation for being an absolute perfectionist with her scripts, having incredible emotional depth, and handling complex characters with total respect and care. Because of her incredible track record—and the fact that she’s been acting since she was a little kid and is a total professional—he trusted her completely. He literally believed that if he couldn't have her, the show wouldn't be the same, which is why he was willing to wait an entire year for her!

PLMB

The little girl is the same actress who plays the daughter in The Glory

chanel

i lowkey want the intro to be the iconic “woo to the young to the woo” thingy

Ri

Atypical is also a great show about autism and neurodivergence!!

raguoc00

Sometime you need to watch Park Eun Bin’s dasaeng acceptance speech for her work in Woo. Gives a lot of insight into her mindset for this role. It’s endearing and really beautiful.

Jiminn lvr

was a long wait but thanks guys!!

nana

I laughed at how they were already expecting the worst. lmao they're so traumatized by the previous dramas. this is such a nice breath of fresh air. It's a feel good, cute drama with nothing gory, no revenge plots, or anything like that. just a nice, refreshing change of pace which i think they need once in a while

Jeonnpatt.yy

This is my top favorite k-drama !! I'm so happy you guys are reacting to it ;it's such a heart warmly show and I never you guys would love it.

Here you go again guys!! You're doing it to me again!! This is another drama I couldn't bring myself to watch like Twinkling Watermelon but I tried watching ep 1 with you and now I'm starting to like it. You seem to have some kind of influence in me idk lmao

The main actress Park Eun-bin is SO AMAZING and did an excellent job. She doesn’t have autism irl and she’s incredibly great at acting. So excited for to rewatch it with y’all! I know you’re gonna absolutely love this series! 🥰

Soph

lowkey an out of left field recommendation, but if you ever wanna try out a chinese drama, pursuit of jade is a really good romance/historical one!!

lexie

J-Lee

I don't know if you guys will read this, but I'll just leave it here in case anyone is curious. There are a few reasons why autistics girls are underdiagnosed. The main one is that, even though the criteria for diagnosing autism spectrum has changed a lot over the last few decades, it's been majorly focused on male presentation. Autistic girls tend to be more shy, quiet, tidy, etc. in general when they're very young, so it flies under the radar. They are also better at masking. For a girl to be diagnosed early, she often has to be practically non-verbal and going through severe difficulties. Girls who are "higher" on the spectrum ie. don't have as many comorbid difficulties, like learning disabilities, sometimes spend most of their lives without realizing they're autistic or being misdiagnosed. Another thing I'd like to comment on is the whole "superpower" thing mentioned during your reaction... Autism is a spectrum. And yes, there are some traits a lot of autistic people share that can be considered strengths, like an intense ability to focus, attention to detail, pattern recognition, etc. But for the most part, autism is considered a disability for a reason. Not everyone has unique cognitive abilities like Woo Young Woo; in fact, that's a very small minority. If you say stuff like that, many autistic people would probably consider it condescending because only we know how difficult it is to go through everyday life, to find jobs, to build relationships, to get through school, to do things that most neurotypical people take for granted. Would I change my brain for anyone else's? No. But I'm not gonna call it a "superpower" either. It's a different way of processing the world that comes with its own set of pros and cons. And a lot of those cons can be debilitating... Just sharing my perspective as someone in the spectrum. Loved the reaction, though. 💜

sleepingatlast

I'm glad you made this distinction on the "superpower" description (which I think Tripletake will understand better when they get to episode 3). Regarding the gender diagnostic gap, I'll just paste this systematic review for anyone who's interested in the research: https://doi.org/10.1007/s11065-023-09630-2 To summarise, there's a lot to suggest that autistic girls are better at camouflaging, and a potential bias in the diagnostic process itself (i.e. there's a difference in how symptoms of autism are presented by boys and girls, which might make it easier for the latter to miss out on the diagnosis). The researchers also mention the social expectations on females as well, which it can make it more difficult for them to externalise their behaviours unlike males, and where there's "research indicating that autistic females need to exhibit more intellectual and behavioural problems to be captured by the current autism diagnostic criteria" (i.e. the standard for females is higher than males). All in all, I'd infer there's a huge social influence for the 'why'.

Khaycee Estinopo

Thank you for sharing this with us! 💜 We hadn’t really considered that perspective when we mentioned the “superpower” thing, so we appreciate you bringing it up. It’s a good reminder that autism can look so different for everyone, and that while some traits can be strengths, there are also very real challenges that shouldn’t be overlooked. Thank you for taking the time to explain this so thoughtfully!

Khaycee Estinopo

we're still fixing our schedule so we can do weekly!

gaby

i love when tripletake comes on this channel to talk to us 🩵😭 I hope WLGYT ep3 is posted soon too

Khaycee Estinopo

aww thank you! hope you enjoy watching every episode withh uss

Kira

Yesss it came out in 2018, they only have one season but it was really good

Nur Athirah

loved the reaction!!! if you guys love this show, i highly suggest another kdrama titled “move to heaven”! the main protagonist of that show it also autistic and although the premise of the show is completely different, it’s so so beautiful and gut wrenching!! the plot is amazing and i think you’d find it really fun!

Tiaf M

omggg i'm so excited!! tysm 😭💗 i can't believe we're getting two of my fave shows, Extraordinary Attorney Woo & When Life Gives You Tangerines!! tho ur reactions to WLGYT are kinda questionable sometimes lol 😭 but i'm SOOO excited for Attorney Woo 😍💗💗

Cynthia Newman

omg!! My all-time fav k drama!! I subscribed just for this!! excited for your journey!! Buckle up, it's a wild crazy amazing extraordinary ride!!

Cynthia Newman

As an adult with special needs with a 5 yr old on the spectrum, this show means soo much to me!! It helps portray what real life ppl got through. For me, I can relate to Adult Woo soo much. Ppl look at me and see soemone who is just seeking a ploy for attention. I'm dismissed all the time and never taken seriously, and or I'm always treated like a child! The laughing and scoffing in the background you see in this show happens to me daily. Just because i think outside of the box and act differently from what society tells you is supposed to be the norms!! Soo happy ur watching this!

10:35 – About Ben mentioning how autism is often harder to identify in young girls, he’s actually right! I wrote my bachelor’s thesis on this exact topic earlier this year! I have a bachelor’s degree in special education/pedagogy, and I’m currently continuing my studies in the field. Historically, autism has been diagnosed much more frequently in boys than in girls, with a commonly cited ratio of around 4 boys for every 1 girl. There are several reasons why autism can be harder to identify in girls: 1. Research: Early autism research was primarily conducted on boys, meaning that our understanding of autism was largely based on how it presented in males. 2. Diagnostic criteria: The diagnostic criteria have historically been influenced by traits and behaviors more commonly recognized in autistic boys. As a result, girls who present differently may be overlooked. 3. Differences in behavior: While autistic boys may be more likely to display externalizing behaviors (such as aggression or disruptive behavior), autistic girls may show more internalizing behaviors (such as anxiety, withdrawal, or emotional distress). This can make their difficulties less noticeable to others. 4. Masking: This is one of the most interesting aspects, in my opinion! Many autistic girls learn to hide or compensate for their autistic traits by observing and imitating the social behavior of their peers. For example, they might consciously learn when to smile, how to maintain eye contact, or even rehearse conversations in their heads before having them. Essentially, they learn to “perform” social interactions that may come more naturally to others. One particularly important aspect is that some autistic girls become so good at masking that their autism goes unnoticed for years. However, masking can be incredibly mentally and emotionally exhausting. As they get older, especially during their teenage years, social expectations and demands often increase. Eventually, some reach a point where they can no longer keep up with these expectations, which can contribute to what is known as autistic burnout. For some girls and women, it is only when they experience significant exhaustion, anxiety, or difficulties coping with everyday life that their autism is finally recognized. And of course, it’s incredibly important to remember that autism is a spectrum! Not every autistic girl masks, not every autistic boy displays externalizing behaviors, and autistic people can have very different strengths, challenges, and support needs. These are patterns that researchers have identified, not rules that apply to everyone. It’s such an interesting topic, and I was genuinely excited to hear you guys bring it up while watching Extraordinary Attorney Woo! ❤️

Anna

Another thing worth mentioning, especially in relation to Extraordinary Attorney Woo, is that not all autistic people have exceptional abilities like Woo Young-woo! Her incredible memory and ability to recall information from books are examples of what are sometimes referred to as savant abilities. While some autistic individuals have extraordinary skills in specific areas, this is actually relatively uncommon. I think this is an important distinction because portrayals of autism in movies and TV shows can sometimes create the misconception that all autistic people have some kind of hidden genius-level talent. In reality, autism is incredibly diverse, and having exceptional abilities is certainly not a requirement for being autistic. That being said, I think it’s great that shows like Extraordinary Attorney Woo are bringing more attention to autism, especially in women!

Kimberley

This show is so joyful and such a comfort show

Watch Flower of Evil please!! It's very suspenseful. I think you would like it. I loved the first watch of Attorney Woo. I haven't watched this since it's initial release. Can't wait to go on this journey.

☺️ Currently airing on Netflix is the Japanese remake of this series called, “Extraordinary Attorney Minami”. 🌺 🌟 The first season has 10 episodes, the episode 1 is now available on Netflix and the new episodes are released every week, every Monday. :-)

Louise

Another good portrayal of autism is in the drama's 'Moving Heaven' and 'It's Ok To Not Be Ok', both really good shows, maybe you could watch those at some time, not many people have reacted to them which would be nice, great reaction btw!

❣️ Vladlena ❣️

Watching this series and When Life Gives You Tangerines at the same time is such a treat for me! I renewed my subscription for that very reason! 😍😍 Just post more often, and I’ll be on cloud nine with your current K-drama lineup! ❤️
