Guys..just chill! Enjoy this masterpiece drama. This is real life scenarios in the past and maybe at the present in South Korea..particularly in Jeju Island..According to the makers of the drama, some part of the story was almost true to life of a couple in Jeju Island..They got the inspiration for the storyplay..You really just have to enjoy and go with the flow. Don't overthink and please always focus on every details cause it is really all connected..Good job Charlie on emphasizing on the peas. It is Geumyong's favorite since childhood and his dad would always give her every peas he have and could get. This drama is really about how true love unfolds. And how they love their children more than anything else in this world.

I hate when comments like “get the tissues ready” leave reactors guessing who’s going to die instead of enjoying the story. They spend so long expecting something to happen to one person, and when it doesn’t, they’ve missed out on the emotions of the actual scenes. Guys I wanted to explain some of the meaning behind these scenes for you. The grandma and mum throwing beans and rice at IU every morning and night reflects an old ritual where people did this if they believed someone brought bad luck or had demons or spirits attached to them. The scene where main guy turns away from his dad and grandma’s table to sit with IU and his mum is especially symbolic. It represents him rejecting the traditional social norms where men held higher status and sat at the “main table” with better food like beans, meat, and fish, while wives and daughters were expected to sit at a side table with only plain rice and side dishes. These details are easy to miss now because it feels unthinkable today, but at the time—especially in Jeju—this was very real. There was even a saying: “It’s better to be a cow than a woman in Jeju,” because cows were considered more valuable and useful. Another major theme in the show is IU’s mother, who had passed away, being a diver. In Jeju, female divers (haenyeo) were incredibly significant, but the role was traditionally given to women because it was seen as acceptable for them to risk dying at any moment due to the tides. This ties back to how women’s lives in Jeju were often treated as less important. That’s why IU was so devastated when she saw her daughter being recommended to become a diver as well because it basically means sacrifice your life for our wellbeing hence why they had a "death table" lying there for her sacrifice. Anyway overall without any spoilers this isn’t your typical kdrama. It’s beyond that, there is no plot you have to really look into its basically ( without any spoilers) a generation story about Aesun’s mum, then Aesun, and later Aesuns daughter (Guemmyung).

I love how you guys are able to understand lil emotional scenes and their depth. Btw something you might have missed : the captain is the same older guy she was getting married to earlier and thats why he is jealous of Yang and beating him. He is jealous and constantly mocks him out of jealousy that your wife aint that great.
