Alright homies, reply to this post with an anime you think I should watch, just make sure it's not on that list of stuff I've already seen. The shorter it is, the more likely I'll pick your submission. It would also be helpful for me if you include how long it is (whether that be # of episodes or # of minutes if it's a movie).

Macross Plus!!!

Miy Eterp

Wow, please making US military MRE Delicious In Dungeon style?

Kirby Canvas

Campfire Cooking in Another World with my Absurd Skill! I believe it's about 13 episodes and 1 season so far. 30 minute episodes

Jon Lyons

86 please please please. It’s my favorite of all time and you are in it!!!! (Also only one season 23 or so episodes)

jedisalsohere

moriarty the patriot. 24eps + 2ovas, a very stylish adaptation of sherlock holmes that focuses on moriarty to tell a totally original story.

Kass Fireborn

RideBack, an anime that went places I did not expect

Kaladin17

Tengoku Daimakyō, super good and it's 13 eps

Jesse Miller

Orb: On the Movements of the Earth. 1 season 25 eps

Ny

sabikui bisco! 1 season/12 eps

Cara

Kageki Shojo!!

Dana Lee

Akagi (old gambling anime) or The Fable (pretty new)

Alex Lilly

Assassination Classroom

Samson

91 Days was a really good mafia revenge anime. It’s an original anime, with a complete story, that’s only 12 episodes plus an OVA.

Ragnerrok

moriarty the patriot

Noel A. Garibay

Mashle: Magic & Muscles. Currently has two seasons with a total of 24 episodes.

Yon Habtemichael

The Perfect Insider if you like a nice mystery

Chris Murdock

The Way of the Househusband (Gokushufudo). 15 episodes on Netflix. Each episode is only about 16 minutes. It's got an interesting style very close to a manga visually and my wife and I thought it was hilarious.

Adam Champoux

Desert Punk 24 episodes. Gundam 00 50 episodes (it’s essentially Gundam Wing, but with an actually good story/pacing)

Max Kircher

Akudama Drive. I think it's Peak Cyberpunk fiction, and the character designs were done by Kazutaka Kodaka - the danganronpa guy

Ragnerrok

1 season. 26 episodes.

James Carter

Gun x Sword, 26 episodes. Very fun mecha anime, great supporting cast including a team of geriatric power rangers. Decent in dub or sub. Fantastic score

Rook

My favorite genre is Sports Anime and you've already got a few of my favorites on there as masterpieces (like Run With the Wind, for example), so I suggest tsurune (archery, 2 13-ep seasons), Blue Lock (Soccer for freaks, 38 episodes across 2 seasons I think, ongoing), One Outs (1 13-ep season), sk8 the infinity (Skateboarding for freaks, 12 episodes), or Bakuten/Backflip (gymnastics, 1 12-ep season). For Non-Sports Anime I recommend Doctor Stone (I thought it would be super annoying based on the marketing for it but it's actually so heartfelt and genuine. It is pretty long, with like 4 or 5 seasons and a movie though, and it's ongoing). Frieren is incredible, 28 episodes. Buddy Daddies is great, 12 episodes.

Roxy is no longer inside your walls because she has learned the second season of the Ted tv series will be released March 5th

Danganronpa anime *DESPAIR ARC*. 11 episodes, each 22ish mins. (I watched it in one day i was completely hooked) What starts out as an adorable slice of life anime with the characters of Danganronpa 2 slowly becomes terrifying with a couple moments that still make my blood run cold just thinking about them years later. Do not bother with the Future Arc or the Hope Arc, they are both the worst elements of the entire franchise. I personally really enjoy both horror and slice of life and the way the series lures you in with cute character moments and interactions only to become haunting is something i have not seen done THIS well from any other anime. The Future and Hope arcs are completely different stories and you are not missing any context for the Despair arc if you don't watch them. For additional context i find the second half of the first game and pretty much all of Danganronpa 2 to be boring, but this show made me like those characters far more.

Eliott 67

… I’ve checked the list twice now, and I don’t see the Ace Attorney anime on here, Did you not watch those?? Cause I refuse to believe yall didn’t watch those 😨

GothicCoppelia

Uma Musume Seasons 1-3, and the Road to the Top movie. I think you would LOVE uma musume after the first season. It’s a slice of life but with horse girls that race for a living. The tone shift while still keeping that slice of life bit for seasons 2-3 is something I will never forget from how much I enjoyed it.

MCBiohazard

If you enjoyed the two Kaiji series and if you're curious about delving into the labyrinth that is riichi mahjong, you might like Akagi, which was also created by the same mangaka. The anime adaptation is 26 episodes like Ultimate Survivor but this is a show where the first mini arc is three episodes so you can see if the mix of sleight of hand cheating and game psychology that's common in mahjong dramas is up your alley or not.

danny

New Game - two seasons 12 eps each

Kaladin17

If you liked The promised neverland (s1 obviously) you'll like this one, it has the same vibes in some parts and some pretty interesting characters

Pledger K

Beast Player Erin. It is a pretty unique anime that follows it's titular character, Erin, from childhood to adulthood. She is the daughter of a monster veterinarian in a village that breeds giant lizards for war. The anime follows Erin's life as she grows up. It is an adaptation of a novel series written by Nahoko Uehashi of Moribito fame. 50 episodes.

Rixa Macto

Yu Yu Hakusho! 112 episodes but it's pretty easy to get through!

ShadowMellow

May I recommend Star Driver (Utena meets Mecha), Tsuritama (Social Anxiety, fishing and aliens) and Beyond the Boundary (Demon Hunting with KyoAni)? I don't know if you would like them or even that they're universally considered good but they are at the very least very interesting and worth a watch.

PG Modehouse

Frieren. Season 1 is 28 episodes

PG Modehouse

Finish Haikyu. Season 3 is 10 episodes. Season 4 is 25 episodes There there's the two movies. Not sure if the next story arc in the manga is gonna be animated or not, but it's damn good too.

lyrical

Tonari no Yokai-san (12 episodes); Buddy Daddies (12 episodes); Play It Cool, Guys (24 15-minute episodes); Revue Starlight (12 episodes and if you like it there is also a 2 hour long movie sequel)

Nicholas Denaro

Kyoukai no Kanata (Beyond the Boundary) - 12 episodes

A Cash

Deca-dence. 12 episodes.

Evan Clark

BOFURI: I Don't Want to Get Hurt, so I'll Max Out My Defense. 2 seasons, total of 24 episodes

Quasi-Liminal Divination

You've seen all of my shortest recommendations, so this one's a little on the longer side but try fruits basket! It's been a while since I've seen it but I remember really liking it. The relationships between characters are rewarding to watch as they grow and change. It's 3 seasons, 63 episodes

naisam

Ranma 1/2 (1989) or the reanimated! I saw you watched the movie but not TV series. The 1989 is very silly and I think the comedy and pacing still holds up if you watch it now. The reanimated version has been great so far too!

Evan Clark

Angel Beats! 13 episodes

Alyssa

Yona of the Dawn. 24 eps. Lots of great dubbed VAs. Princess adventure, she starts out whiney and later becomes strong and inspiring. Sort of Reverse Harem but not really. Very sweet, funny, and wholesome.

SirAlphaBum

Parasyte: The Maxim. Only 24 episodes. Also second what others have recommended with Frieren and Soul Eater.

ShadowMellow

Star Driver is 25 episodes, Tsuritama is 12 and Beyond the Boundary is 12 + OVA + Movie. I also saw you don't have Utena on your list and I can't recommend that one strongly enough. 39 Episodes + Movie but one of the most thought provoking anime I've ever watched.

rennui

senyuu! 26 total episodes (2 seasons) and 4 ovas, but each episode is like 5 minutes long (even shorter if you cut out the ending) total watch time for all of the anime adaptation can be done in like 2.5 hours it's a fantasy rpg gag series from the 2010s so there are some dated jokes/tropes but otherwise it's pretty silly and fun

Andrew Welsh

L/R aka Liscence by Royalty 12 eps. About 2 British spies with code names L and R go on missions. Great sound track, fluid animation, and just a fun romp.

Kyle Adams

Seconding Angel Beats (13) and Parasite (24). Please watch DanDaDan.

Discovary

March Comes In Like A Lion - 44 (2x22) episodes. I think it's unlikely you haven't seen/read it, but it wasn't on the list, so here goes: this is the story of an introverted teenage shogi prodigy with a troubled past who learns to be a better player (and, surprise, a better person) through his relationship with 3 sisters who take him under their wing. It's a slice-of-life anime that reminds me most of Natsume's Book of Friends in tone, but with sports anime components. Also the anime has fun songs to teach you shogi, which makes it worth it for me.

Melissa

It's not what a purist would call anime but feels anime-inspired—Pantheon, currently on Netflix. 16 eps. Google calls it "Drama; Science fiction; Techno-thriller; Post-cyberpunk; Conspiracy thriller"

Woalol

Mairimashita! Iruma-kun or Welcome to Demon School Iruma Kun! So far 3 seasons out on Crunchyroll. 1st season is 23 episodes and season 2 and 3 are 21 episodes. Slice of life lite with story arcs, demons, character growth, very cute, very wholesome and at times; cuts some onions. Also Daisuke Ono play's Iruma's teacher.

Ben

Hanasaku Iroha - 26 episodes and a movie. A great slice of life about girls working at a traditional Japanese inn.

miinty

Trigun Stampede!! It's very different from the 98 anime (which I can see was just 'decent' on your list), the tone is on the more serious side with a more plot-centric arc (sharing the spirit of the original manga). Just one season, 12 episodes, but greenlit for more!

Shinga

Zenshu! It's about an animator from earth who passes out/dies? at work and is transported to the world of her favorite childhood movie, where she has the power to add her own animations to the world. It's kind of a comedy fantasy story with a touch of romance, and it's GORGEOUS

tiredamoeba

Sonny Boy (12 eps), an awesome original anime loosely inspired by drifting classroom, and Inu-oh (98 min), a Yuasa-directed rock opera set in feudal Japan!

Christopher

Michiko to Hatchin! There's only one season. Beautiful animation. A hidden gem considering how famous the creators other works are.

Ironwolf

There's this show, Chihayafuru? Not sure if you've ever heard of it... No but seriously, since you mentioned wanting/needing to watch more Gundam, I will always recommend Gundam Wing and it's OAV Endless Waltz, as well as G Gundam. G Gundam is a very weird take on Gundam, but the designs are great and the show is campy but awesome

Gwen S.

The Vision of Escaflowne? 26 episodes. There's also a 98-minute movie titled simply Escaflowne. The characterizations and designs are very different between the two media, though.

dancerladyaqua (Olivia)

Patema Inverted (1h39min movie) I personally loved Angel Beats, not sure if it's up your alley? But it's 13 eps of fun and emotion, and I've watched it so many times. Yes this is serious, Pokemon: The Rise of Darkrai is considered one of the best. Also an amazing soundtrack.

Discovary

Fruits Basket is in the list of manga he's read so I don't think there's much benefit to watching the anime I like your other recommendations, although I'll admit I haven't seen the Pokemon movie

Pastor Austin

Blood Blockade Battlefront - Season 1 is 12 episodes - If you like it give season 2 a try. It’s the kind of show, I worry about how to explain it and not ruin the mysteries and fun moments of discovery. It was one of the first anime I ever bought on dvd.

Sage

The Twelve Kingdoms/Juuni Koki. The best isekai out there in my opinion. The whole series is 48 eps but I would say only worry about the first 13 to cover the first light novel.

Octopuppet

This might be a stretch of what you consider anime but ANN has it so we're going for it. Thunderbolt Fantasy is a collaboration between Gen Urobuchi and Taiwanese puppet studio PILI. 4 seasons of 12-13 episodes and 3 90-minute movies of some of the coolest puppetry effects you've probably ever seen, tied together with fantastic writing from one of the anime greats.

Toni

Shimoneta. 12 eps. Golden Boy adjacent I will not further elaborate. Angel Beats! 13 eps and finished. I love the music in it. Dr. Stone. 1st season is 24 eps. Still ongoing with season 4 recently aired. I love the crazy science and characters.

Gentleman Gamer

- Restaurant to Another World - 12 episodes for season 1- a nice show for when you want some fun, light hearted episodic stories and well animated food. - Horimiya - 13 episodes for the main season- very cute rom com where you don't have to wait ages for the main romance to happen. - Kaguya Sama Love is War - 12 episodes for season 1- rom com where it DOES take forever for the characters to get together ... Except it's played for over the top comedy. The characters are well developed too.

Teddy

Hozūki no Reitetzu | Hozuki's Coolheadedness: Follows the cheif of staff of Great King Yama, 5th Judge of the afterlife. 2 season comedy.

Winter Vulcan

Barakamon - Follows the story of a young calligraphy artist who is extremely anxious and proud. Watch him be sent to a remote island to learn and make Art instead of just copy perfect lettering. Backflip!!/Bakuten - Idk, it's silly sports anime about gymnast boys. It's nothing particularly special but I found it a calm and pleasant vibe. The MC and the Sports Rival have a very nice relationship I don't often see in sports anime. They push each other to do better but they're also very friendly towards each other.

Jeff Hibbert

No idea if it holds up, but... Those Who Hunt Elves? 13 episodes with absurd cheesecakey isekai stuff. I liked it back in college. If you want something shorter, Iria: Zeiram the Animation is an all-timer for me, six episodes of sci-fi action with a wonderfully cheesy 90's dubs.

SpiralingShape

I came here to post this! One of my favorite anime of all time and tragically underwatched / underrated. It's so funny and heartwarming with a great cast and fun worldbuilding.

Carween Mui

Blue Period - a short one season anime with 12 episodes. It’s a slice of life anime about a group of high schoolers pursuing their passion (sounds familiar?) in trying to get accepted in art programs at university. I was bored one day and started watching it on Netflix, and binged the entire series on a Friday night. Worth a watch!

SpiralingShape

Welcome to Demon School Iruma-kun! I second the comment that it's an excellent anime to watch. I see on your list you have My Hero Academia listed as an excellent anime... for me, this anime captured a lot of the fun characterization and growth plots of early MHA, but ultimately executed even better. When they finally make season four, it'll be adapting one of my favorite arcs in all of manga. It's longer than some of the recommendations here (three seasons so far) but it's the kind of show where episodes just fly by. Also, I just want more people in the US to watch Iruma -- I've scoured an entire anime convention and only found one piece of merchandise from it, which is really unfortunate given how high quality it is.

MH

Magic Knight Rayearth - FEELS like a JRPG in a good way Ghost Cat Anzu - takes a little whole to get going, but charming Rose of Versailles, TV - DRAMATIC AS FUCK, Sherlock Hound - Sherlock Holmes but it's a funny aninal cartoon where everyone is a cute anime dog Future Boy Conan - Miyazaki's TV directorial debut Ex-Driver - a special squad of trained drivers who prevent disasters when self driving cars malfunction. It's cool. Ranma 1/2 - the new series has been really good and is a great place to start

Kenny Humiston

Uchouten Kazoku (The Eccentric Family)- 13 episodes Hai to Gensou no Grimgar (Grimgar, Ashes and Illusions)- 12 episodes Tamako Love Story (sequel film to Tamako Market)- 83 minutes

JoyfulPocketNinja

Star Driver - Musical Mecha with Magical Boy (25 episodes) Visual Prison - Eurovison for vampires but they singing to a red moon that gives them blood tears that grants wishes (12 episodes) Un-Go - Detective works with a demon that eats truths (11 episodes) Recovery of an MMO Junkie - Gaming recluse finds love and learns how to leave the house (10 episodes)

Jay Whizz

Bubble Gum Crisis! The OVA 8 part series :)

Souler Flaire

365 Days to the Wedding - 12 episodes (the anime has an ending, but the manga apparently goes on much longer) Dungeon People - 12 episodes From Bureaucrat to Villainess: Dad's Been Reincarnated! - 12 episodes (but the story definitely isn't done)

K.

Apocalypse Hotel - 12 episodes, 22m/each. (Currently airing; episodes up to 11 have currently aired) A moving and pleasant surprise in the current season. An original anime and one of the most beautiful shows (in many ways) right now imo. Skull-face Bookseller Honda-san / Gaikotsu Shotenin Honda-san - 12 episodes, 11m/each Manga adaptation; comedic look into life in a Japanese bookstore. Resonates if you've worked retail

Björn Thulin

Quality assurance in another world - 12 episodes , an anime about QA testers in a virtual mmo which is a lot better than it sounds like

Bex

Outlaw Star if you want an old school space western. 1 season, 26 episodes.

Cubulous Ratchet

Check out Buddy Daddies! (13 episodes) Two male assassin friends end up unexpectedly raising a 4-year-old child together, hijinks ensue. Heartwarming and heartbreaking, excellent and lovable characters, lots of really cute moments. Campfire Cooking in Another World With My Absurd Skill (12 episodes) is basically the only Isekai I will ever endorse or recommend. A mediocre salaryman ends up in a fantasy world and gains the power of buying earthly groceries from basically Amazon *but magically.* He cooks tasty food and somehow gains ridiculously powerful allies because of it, it's awesome.

fmoo

Unhinged isekai gang rise up: "Kemono Michi: Rise Up" - Pro wrestler gets isekai'd "Reborn as a Vending Machine, I Now Wander the Dungeon" - level up and make friends... with only a handful of preset voice responses "Isekai Shikkaku" - Japanese historical figure Osamu Dazai brings his super powers of terminal depression and substance abuse problems to another world.

Stephen Tigner

"Catch Me at the Ballpark!" 12 eps, just finished on CR. Cute slice-of-life show about people that work at and attend games at a professional baseball stadium.

Cubulous Ratchet

Also Mashle: Magic and Muscles!! (24 episodes) It's about a guy who lives in a Harry-Potter-esqe world full of magic users and he can't use magic, so to make up for it he works out a lot and gets really buff. So buff that he can go toe-to-toe with magic users in battle. He enrolls in magic school with the goal of becoming the most accomplished student there. Hijinks ensue. I've put so many of my friends on to this show, it's usually the first thing I reach for if I'm going to be watching TV with a friend and they haven't seen it.

Jimmy Andrews

Frieren: Beyond Journey's End (currently 2 seasons, 28 episodes), nostalgic adventure with interesting magic

Levi Olsen

Assassination classroom, it is on the longer side (2 24 episode seasons) but it is pretty good.

Levi Olsen

Assassination classroom, it is on the longer side (2 24 episode seasons) but it is pretty good.

WarrickShipper

Second apocalypse hotel that was what I was here to suggest

WarrickShipper

Mo Dao Zu Shi aka Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation is a masterpiece donghua and is complete.

Zayn Ryzen

Millionaire Detective: Balance UNLIMITED- 11 episodes. Buddy Cop show about a by the book detective and a wealthy Scion that uses his vast unlimited wealth to solve mysteries and resolve crises in the most blunt fashion. First episode gives you an good idea of what you are in for. Bodacious Space Pirates- 26 episodes. Young high school girl finds out she's next in line as captain for a famous and legal space pirate vessel. A pretty cool sci-fi series that is surprisingly feminist for anime standards. Sugar Apple Fairy Tale- 24 episodes. On the surface its an anime about a girl who wants to become the best sugar confectioner she can be, earning acclaim and positions through her hard work. However, more interestingly its about themes of prejudice between humanity and fairies as the MC purchases a fairy for her own protection and its made clear its NOT ok and that no good relationship will start until she frees him. It's also a romance anime, but it has a good bit of action. Golden Kamuy- 49 episodes w/ 3OADs and ONE more season left. I highly recommend this anime/manga. It takes place in the early 1900s in Northern Japan, Hokaido. A tale spreads that a prisoner knows the location of a large deposit of Ainu gold, and made a map of the treasure map by tattooing the backs of 50 convicts who have recently escaped prison . Former soldier Sugimoto teams up with the young Ainu girl Asirpa to find the convicts and uncover the location of the gold with other infamous parties on the search as well.

Woalol

Absolutely love it. I think its very well written and has solid pacing but falls under the radar due to lack of use of tropes. But I think that's to it's advantage.

Posey Music

"Science Fell in Love so I Tried to Prove it" 2 seasons of 12 episodes (24 total) - I am obsessed with this anime and I don't normally like anime. It's a really endearing rom-com that maybe you and the wife can enjoy together! :)

Pokedude14

Tonikawa, 2 seasons of 12 episodes. Just a cute Slice of Life anime; The Devil is a part timer, 2 seasons, reverse Isekai (fantasy characters need to survive in Modern Japan)

Nymi

"Lovely Complex" !! it has 24 episodes, and it's one of my favorite romcom anime. literally just about a tall girl and a short guy

McWoodey

Dororo - honestly just watch the opening and if you're not sold I'll be surprised.

Tess

"Orb: on the Movements of the Earth" On Netflix 25 Episodes and it's a full adaptation Follow a young boy who's trying to prove Heliocentrism in 15th Century Poland where the study of it is outlawed by the Church. Extremely strong writing, characters, and Drama "Ao Ashi" On Crunchyroll 25 Episodes which covers half the Manga It's a seinen take on a sports anime that's heavily about the sport. Ambitious Soccer player from a rural town tries out for a Youth Club in Tokyo. If you're not familiar with Soccer, this also does a great job at explaining the strategy behind the sport.

Alex Smith

Read or Die OVA (2001), it's 3 only episodes but one of my favorites. I've gotten so many people who normally would not try anime to watch this, because you can relate it to the X-men (agents with special powers). I've never seen anything else like it. There is a 26 ep "sequel" called R.O.D. the TV (2003) which I also enjoyed. Secret agents who are paper masters (can control paper) saving the world. I love Please Teacher! (2001), 13 ep. More relationship development in less than 13 episodes than hundreds of episodes of other series. Alien teacher comes to a rural town in Japan to teach and observe, neighbor is a student in her class and discovers her secret, and they they get married(!) to cover for her at school. Cue awkwardness and them slowly falling in love. Also stars Kikoku Inoue, one of my favorite voice actresses. Speaking of her, Oh! My Goddess OVA (1993) is only 5 episodes. College student accidentally calls a Goddess Hotline and wishes for a goddess to stay with him forever, wish granted, hilarity (and romance) ensues.

Scrim

Galaxy Express 999, a 129 minute film by the same person who did Captain Harlock Leiji Matsumoto. It's a revenge story that is one part space western, one part science fantasy, and has a gorgeous art style and buck wild plot.

xiaa

My next life as a villainess all routes lead to doom (12 EP x 2 seasons, 24 EP total) imo the first season can just stand on its own as a contained story and is super cute. the second season can be considered filler/fan service. I would only watch it if you enjoyed season 1. And also The Masterful Cat Is depressed again. I guess it's vaguely in the same vein as Kobayashi 's dragon maid. It's very short, maybe 12 eps. I think you would like these if you have them a chance. If they don't hook you by EP 1 feel free to drop them.

Mel

Dai-Guard. 26 episodes. A loving comedy-action giant robot series where the titular robot was built by the lowest bidder and the threat it was built to combat didn't appear for a good 20 years so it's the mecha equivalent of a lemon car, and the only people trained to pilot it are a group of salarymen. King of Braves GaoGaiGar. 49 episodes over two seasons. So take Evangelion's tone, do a complete 180, and sprint as far as possible and you've got GaoGaiGar's tone. Cyborg piloting a giant robot vs zombie robot aliens. Set up like a monster of the week show until about halfway thru when you realize there's actually be a lot of set up for the second half. Everyone is Hot Blooded.

Dan Koss

I came here to say this one as well. Read or Die OVA (2001)!

Dan Koss

Yu Yu Hakusho. 112 episodes, 4 seasons. It's a classic. The English dub is very fun and has those golden era voice actors, but the original Japanese dialogue has so many great jokes.

dudelikewow

Kageki Shojo. 12 Episodes. It’s about a varied group of girls going to a prestigious theatre school to hopefully become part of their troupe

Agent E

The World God Only Knows: only 12 episodes cuz only season 1 is worth watching. Read the manga if you're interested in the rest of the story. The Disastrous Life of Saiki K: Considering on the rest of the slice of life comedy you enjoy, I was surprised you haven't watched this. 120 episodes but there's no need to watch all of it since there's barely a continuity.

Emanuele Barone

Night Warriors: Darkstalkers' Revenge, it’s 4 episodes.

Tim

Magi - the labyrinth of magic: fantasy adventure involving genies and conquering dungeons. S1 has 25 ep. 3 seasons. manga finished beyond anime. Link Click - Chinese Donghua. Wiki: 'Cheng Xiaoshi and Lu Guang run Moment of Time Photo Studio and accept requests from clients to relieve them of regrets. ' Beautiful story telling that say a lot about cherishing relationships. S1 has 11 ep. 2 seasons. Read Or Die: The TV (2003) - Mystery, Action, Sci Fi. Bookworm Charlie's Angels. 26 epi

Robert May

Servant x Service - 13 episodes It's an easy-going workplace anime about civil servants 😅 We have fairly similar tastes in slice-of-life and comedy anime (also Full Metal Panic enjoyer? Nice), so I think it might be up your street. It's an adaptation of a 4-koma manga so it's zippy and easy to watch.

Kevin U.

Angel Beats! - 13 Episodes. A high school in the afterlife. Dramedy, great Soundtrack.

vvlee

Chiikawa - brainrot silliness mixed with genuine allusions to the struggles of a student and working adult. It's me and my wife's comfort anime. There's 120 episodes on HiDive about 2 minutes each (about 4 hours total). There's more than 250 total episodes in the original non-localized Japanese, and the show is still airing in Japan.

Shua

- Given(Pretty Good BL Romance) - Hakumei to Mikochi(Very cozy anime) - Teasing Master Takagi-san(Good Romance comedy with very likeable characters) - Mix: Meisei Story(IMO an underrated Mitsuru Adachi adaption, bit slow but worth watching), the original Touch is also worth watching but can't remember if it was on the list.

TsuyusKnight

Komi Can't Communicate! It's a funny, cute slice of life anime with only 24 episodes at the moment (24min per episode). Many episodes are divided into 2 different mini stories so you can stop in the middle if you only have like 12 min. A certain side character can turn people off from the show, but it's still so good and the music is really pretty and uplifting. Also, you should catch up in My Hero Academia because the last few seasons are climactic. :)

Scott

You are really lacking in the Leiji Matsumoto anime. We’re talking Captain Harlock, Emeraldas, Space Battleship Yamato, Galaxy Express 999, etc. I recommend you start with the Galaxy Express 999 movie from 1979. It’s just one movie, 129 minutes long. It is absolutely legendary.

ScientistNate

Astra Lost in Space. A school trip to another planet goes awry when a wormhole spits them across the galaxy, all alone. They have limited supplies and have to make their way back one resupply stop at a time. And then comes the huge twists!

Managodess

The Eminence in Shadow maybe? It's an isekai, first season has 20, second has 12 episodes. It doesn't take itself too seriously and kinda, fucks around with some tropes. The MC's inner monologue is kinda hilarious at times. Basically the isekai'd protag pretends to be a weak npc all the while actually being pretty capable. He creates an underground organization to defeat a cult he invents that turns out to be real.

Izer

Blue Period is incredible!

James Rule

Came here to also recommend Magic Knight Rayearth. Might feel a little dated, but I just think of it as "classic."

James Rule

Battle Angel (OVA). Released in 1993. Two half hour episodes. Different from the manga, but I enjoyed it.

Izer

Josee, the Tiger and the Fish (139 min). Romance film about a university student and a paraplegic woman. It's animated beautifully by studio Bones and directed by Kotaro Tamura (director of Wolf Children), but its strongest point imo is the character development.

James Rule

Watch Riding Bean along with. I mean you might as well.

Eric Mcallen

1. Welcome to the ballroom 2. link click 3. The king’s avatar

Unsurpassed Travesty

Uchouten Kazoku. Two 13 episode seasons. Criminally unknown.

Anna Elise

K project, it's on netflix, 12 episodes there's several season but it's basiclly all standalones so no need to watch past the first 12

Keanu

Series: Dandadan (netflix), just ask Jay or watch his rec video about it. Sci-fi/supernatural action with romance. It is so rad Movie: Stranger by the Shore (crunchyroll). A thoughtful BL romance

BrawlKaiser

Outlaw Star (26 episodes) - an amazing science-fantasy series. Its unfortunately not easily available to watch legally.

Jacob "VGAfanatic" Tucker

Apothecary Diaries. Set in a fictional world based on Imperial China, a young girl forced into indentured servitude at the Imperial Palace solves mysteries and assists people using her extensive medical knowledge.

Houseki no Kuni or Land of the Lustrous, it's by the same studio that did Beastars but unfortunately they've only made one season. It's GORGEOUS, I hope you'll check it out! "Set in a world inhabited by Lustrous—immortal humanoid lifeforms who are the embodiments of gemstones—it chronicles their efforts to find the place where they belong while fighting to defend themselves against the celestial humanoid race known as the Lunarians."

Revolutionary Girl Utena, the surrealist magical girl series that won the 1997 Kobe Animation award and has spawned numerous academic papers over the years discussing its themes. 39 episodes long, 23 minutes each, 15 hours total, worth the watch. The series was directed by Kunihiko Ikuhara (director of Sarazanmai, Penguindrum, and others), a former Sailor Moon director who was frustrated by the lack of creative freedom when working on a manga adaptation. Ikuhara initially set out to make Utena a mainstream magical girl shōjo series, but instead the show ended up being a surrealist subversion of fairy tales and the magical girl genre, with themes of gender deconstruction, LGBTQ representation, as well as a woman of color as a central lead character. The series was influenced by experimental theater and the Takarazuka Revue (big Japanese theater troupe where women play all the roles, male and female, which has had a huge influence on anime and manga). This show is a wild ride and I love it. I recommend checking it out.

I accidentally deleted my first comment recommending this, my apologies if it double-notifies!

One more for Barakamon

Ampoth

One more for this, definitely a hidden gem!

Ampoth

One more for this. I'm honestly surprised he hasn't seen it. It hits a lot of the notes that he enjoys when it comes to anime.

Came here to recommend Tsuritama!

God, I remember that one. It's stuck with me for a long time. Such a ridiculous story, but it was so cool watching it when it aired.

Adding things I haven't seen yet: Katanagatari - 12 eps - Stylized action of a journey to collect 12 swords to present to the emperor. It's all about the fights on the surface, but the people whom have the swords really sneak in some good drama, but the fights are still great. Future Boy Conan - 26 eps - Hayao Miyazaki did a TV show! Everyone should see this. It's a classic. Epic journey with strong hearted Conan. Kurenai - 12 eps - Slice of life, mixed with a weird underworld of fixers. This is way more drama than action, but when there is action, it's really meaningful because of the drama. Phenomenal voice work by Aoi Yabusaki as Murasaki here.

Yeah, we picked it out at whim, figured hey, ballerina who left professional dance joins a college mecha-cycle club and turns out to be great at it, okay, got a really good sense of what this is going to be about -- and then no, no we did not.

Fishsticxz

animal crossing movie!!! it's an hour and a half long and it's my comfort movie

Jacob "VGAfanatic" Tucker

I post this, and then I see Sungwon upload a chart that includes this series as one of his favorites. I'm officially out of ideas.

Tiger & Bunny! Features Superheroes (in the American golden age of superhero comics sense) who fight supervillains as part of a reality show. Title characters are Kotetsu T Kaburagi, aka Wild Tiger, a middle-aged widower whose popularity as a superhero is fading, and Barnaby B Brooks Jr (called "Bunny" by Kotetsu), a fresh-faced twentysomething and newcomer to the superhero scene. The action scenes are fun, the story is engaging, and the ensemble cast is a delight.

Frieren: Beyond Journey's End. 28 episodes. I feel like you've seen this, but I didn't see it on the list. One of the best and most refreshing takes on a fantasy world.

A bowl of kitsune yakisoba

I really recommend Granblem if you want a magical girl mecha anime (13 eps). I also recommend SSSS.Gridman (12 eps) for a fun mecha anime with twists and turns. There's Samurai Flamenco (22 eps) for a take and parody on super hero and sentai genre. I'll also echo everyone else Revolutionary GIrl Utena (39 eps). While this is the longest out of all my recommendations, I still highly recommend checking it out whenever you get the chance to.

Skipper the Snail

Orb: on the movements of the earth - 25 episodes

Jae Gungriff

Yeah that is only one ep., like a short film. And GSC's English dub is pretty high quality for the time.

Venus

Blood Blockade Battlefront

Nico

Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket

Khold Stare

Kono Oto Tomare! An anime mainly about music and friendship, some romance and drama. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Shangri-La Frontier. It’s a virtual world Iseki similar to SAO, but with no evil twists keeping the characters in the game world. The MC is a connoisseur of bad video games and decides to play the titular “Shangri-La Frontier” to remind himself what good video games are like. It’s like 40 ish episodes with 2 seasons.

Jebeka

Late but I must throw in Taisho Baseball Girls. Wholesome 12 episodes about girls in the Taisho era who want to go to school and play baseball instead of preparing to be housewives. Nobody has ever heard of this anime when I talk about it but I thought it was so good!

glad to see Blood: TLV {short-ass OVA] (and Blood+) (totally different idioms, right? One is Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust, the other is. Bridgerton without the horney, or some shit). but.... no Bubblegum Crisis/ Bubble Crash i get, even though they aren;t obscure; i mean someone mentioned the OG Appleseed OVA. No OG Battle Angel Alita, though {2 OVA episodes, hella short}? no one's listing it as Gunnm, right? (i am only looking at the B's so far. ALTHOUGH. i scroll down and don;t see Eizouken???? {1 season?} which is (proZd snob voice and glasses reposition The Superior Teen Girl Anime About Creatives Finding Their Place In The World?????) (compared to Bocchi The Rock which i also love and is also only one season so far?) [they have a very good DBZ Yamcha crater reference late in the season. the beach episoide. maybe start there]

Not sure if this is still where you'd like suggestions for a potential second video to be put, but if so: The Colors Within [1h40min] Yamada Naoko (K-ON, Tamako, Liz, etc...)'s latest feature film, and her first independent of a pre-existing series. Like her last series, Heike Monogatari (also phenomenal), produced at Science Saru which until Inu-Ou was Yuasa's joint. Just an incredible, beautiful, wholesome film.

Joined the dollar a month club just to rec Dead Dead Demon's Dededede Destruction (yes thats the real name) Really great show that I feel like flew under the radar in 2024. 18 episodes that demand your attention, but well worth it.

Series: Tteotda Keunyeo!! (There she is!!) - 5 episodes -4 min. per episode Lv1 Maou to One Room Yuusha (Level 1 Demon Lord and One Room Hero) - 12 Episodes - 23 min. per episode Burn the Witch - 3 Episodes - 21 min. per episode Appare-Ranman! - 13 Episodes - 23 min. per episode

ABird

Lycoris Recoil :D Only 13 episodes There are also 6 short episodes (2-5 min each = essentially an extra episode). They are a fun and cute watch but not 100% necessary

It's KFG

Apologies for being kinda basic with most suggestions Mobile Suit Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket its 5 episodes. It's similar to Gundam Thunderbolt Skull-face Bookseller Honda-san 12 episodes. A slice of life comedy about working retail in a book store. The Big O its 26 episodes. This felt like one of the two main reason to watch Adult Swim/Toonami as a teen for me with Cowboy Bebop being #1 but you already know how good that one is. A pretty good dub. Yu Yu Hakusho 112 episodes, personally like first two seasons more, that is 66 episodes. Another classic dub as an option. If you love Hunter X Hunter I fee like this would be a hit. Tiger & Bunny 50 episodes but to be upfront i have only watched the first season and really enjoyed it when that came out. The corporate super hero stuff with Tiger being the old guard down on his luck and forced to pair up with the new young hotshot is great pairing. Personally all prefer the version with real sponsors on the super suits. Golden Kamuy 49+ episodes. it is on going with the latest season coming in sometime in 2026. But the way its able to balance the wild characters/humor and the more serious aspects of the still outrageous story. Dragon Ball 153 episodes, which I know is a lot to ask, but I honestly love its tone more than even most of Dragon Ball Z. Classic adventure comedy and fights.

xKlen

Tonari no Youkai-san (13 episodes): As a SoL merchant this felt like the cure for existential crisis for me - a beautiful show about youkai co-existing with humans and finding meaning in life

SwiftTheKobold

I highly recommend "Aim for the Ace!" (1973) since you enjoyed "Tomorrow's Joe". It is 26 Episodes. Both were directed by Osamu Dezaki If that is too long for now, Aim for the "Ace!: The Movie" (1979) [88 Minutes] does a decent job condensing the plot of the original series down to a film. Some arcs are mashed together so those plot beats can happen in the condensed time. If you enjoy that watch the original 1973 series, then watch "Aim for the Ace! 2" (1988) [13 Episode OVA] which covers the next major arcs of the manga. Discotek released all three of these on Blu-ray and next month, January 2026. are releasing Shin Aim for the Ace which is a 1979 remake of the original 1973 series. Discotek's release of "Aim for the Ace! 2" is titled "Aim for the Ace! Another Match". Not sure why that is the case, likely a licensing issue. Similar to how the their release of "Rose of Versailles" is titled "Lady Oscar: The Rose of Versailles"

From the New World (Shinsekai Yori): 25 episode dark fantasy/sci-fi, dystopian, psychological drama/thriller with strong morality themes. Interesting fact is that the source material is a novel that won the 2008 Nihon SF Taishō Award for best sci-fi/fantasy media. Only "warning" is that it is not something to watch passively, mostly because it expects the audience to think for themselves and piece some things together, which I take as good thing.

Since it doesn't look to be on your list already, I really enjoyed Heavenly Delusion (Tengoku Daimakyou). It's semi-sci fi and set in a post-societal collapse Japan, mainly following two young adults trying to reach a place called "heaven" while dealing with your standard assortment of nutjobs and creepy apocalyptic monsters. I wouldn't quite call it a mystery show, but there is quite a bit of mysterious stuff going on that you start to unravel as the show progresses. It's only one season so far, so 13 normal length episodes, but I think the manga goes on quite a bit farther and there's supposed to be a season 2 at some point.

Tawin K

You did voice acting for Studio Trigger's Delicious in Dungeon but you've never watched their #1 rated anime Kill la Kill? Looks like you really enjoyed Cyberpunk Edgerunners as well, you should probably catch up on their work. I would recommend SSSS Gridman but that might be too cheezy for you.

Sly Wolf

Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress is a favorite of mine. It's just 12 episodes plus a 3 episode movie/sequel called Battle of Unato. It's about a steam engine era Japan in a zombie apocalypse type world where they live in fortified towns connected by armored trains. It's mainly about a specific train journeying across Japan and trying to survive. The art of all the weapons and the train are great and the music is good. I just wish it got more episodes.

Lanfearow

Link Click - 2 seasons, 29 Episodes It's a Chinese drama about young adults who run a photo shop and discover they can time travel through the photos. Very well written story and characters. Made me laugh a lot but also left me sobbing. It was fun to watch the relationships between the characters grow and to try to piece together the timeline of events as the story progressed.

Banking that you may come back to this post now that you have a dedicated anime channel, in which case… VIVY: FLUORITE EYE’S SONG Year: 2021 Episodes: 13 Available On: Crunchyroll Studio: WIT Studio Director: Shinpei Ezaki Writer/Creator: Shinpei Nagatsuki I’ve described this show before as “Terminator if it starred Hatsune Miku.” An AI travels back in time to try and avert a coming robot apocalypse, and recruits the earliest self-aware robot to assist him…Vivy, a singing android at an amusement park. What follows is a sprawling sci-fi epic set across 100 years of technological and societal advancement, smoothly blending deeply personal drama for the various humans and AIs Vivy meets, fantastically animated action, and the slow-burn mystery of how the looming apocalypse seems hell-bent on coming to pass despite any changes to the timestream. All while centering the story on Vivy’s own journey toward self-actualization and understanding of her purpose. If you’ve seen a lot of robot-centric sci-fi, you’ve definitely seen most of the tropes VIVY plays with, but I’d argue it’s one of the best I’ve seen at executing them. While I don’t see it on your watchlist, fans of Nagatsuki-san’s most famous work RE:ZERO will find a lot of similarities in how he plays with genre conventions and lends depth to overworn concepts. Stupendous animation and especially music (from Satoru Kōsaki, composer of HARUHI SUZUMIYA, LUCKY STAR, BEASTARS, and THE APOTHECARY DIARIES) definitely help a lot in that regard. I’d personally say it competes only with ODDTAXI for 2021 Anime of the Year, and coming from me that’s high praise indeed. I definitely hope you take it under consideration!
