Poll

Pick our December bonus episode!

  • The Umbrellas of Cherbourg (1964): The film that Don and Lane were gonna see in “Mad Men” before deciding to go see Gamera instead 62
  • Pink Floyd’s The Wall (1982): We don’t need no education. 271
  • Yentl (1983): Barbra Streisand is a 40-year-old woman pretending to be a little girl, pretending to be a little boy 62
  • Elvis Meets Nixon (1997): Not the Kevin Spacey one. Apparently Showtime did a version of this story in the ‘90s? 13
  • VH1 Divas Live (1998): Aretha! Celine! Mariah! Shania! VH1 really loved that they did this back in the day 54
  • Daria: Is It Fall Yet? (2000): La la, LA la la. 126
  • Festival Express (2003) – The Grateful Dead and Janis Joplin tour Canada?? I did not know about this 21
  • Get Rich or Die Tryin’ (2005): 50 Cent’s “8 Mile.” I’ve heard it’s not good! 60
  • I Am: Celine Dion (2024): A documentary about how she is: Celine Dion. What more do you need? 70

Hate to spoil “Get Rich or Die Tryin’”, but Fiddy doesn’t die trying

Lee Breezy

Come on, y’all knew The Wall would win 🙃

Vince Whitacre

Wait... did Human Highway win? DID HUMAN HIGHWAY FUCKING FINALLY WIN???

Jon Heiman

Unfortunately I feel "The Wall" is too timely to not do, what with the Fascism and all...

Connor Rankin

Figured there’d be no better time to talk about than now

Angela

Aww damn, there's no way Daria's gonna beat Pink Floyd. Next year I guess

Angela

I think so! It was really tight though

Charles Arthur

Voted for The Wall, cuz I would like to see how your opinions differ from a certain critic of nostalgia (and someone who folds ideas, if I'm being honest)

Vince Whitacre

Holy crap! Now I need to learn how to vote for something else

Connor Rankin

I straight up told them don’t do what Doug Walker did 💀

Jon Heiman

Except when his 3rd album went head-to-head against Kanye's 3rd, lol

Loyal Deserter

I expect a full parody album to go along with the podcast.

Lanth

Since the wall obviously will win, I cast my vote for Daria in hopes it is resubmitted in January

Angela

Much appreciated. That is my plan since it's pretty solidly in second place now so I think I can give it another couple goes

Gal Hazor

Gotta go with The Umbrellas of Cherbourg, probably the best musical (and of three actually good ones) released after the 50s. Also very likely the best French film of all time

Bennett Billard

When I see "Get Rich or Die Tryin'," instead of the album my mind goes straight to The Boondocks' S2 premiere.

Dork Mode

That was my thought as well

Roughhousin By Proxy

The Wall? Dan Olsen already did the definitive overview of that movie!

Laura Robinson

It's up on the Internet Archive, I believe

Michael Murphy

I'm also on board for Daria, but maybe more for the Lanes than the Morgendorffers, you know? Also, F*** Roger Waters.

Angela

I feel more connected to Daria as a fellow book nerd who could not comprehend her classmates, but the Lanes are pretty awesome too. I like Trent being their getaway driver in Arts 'n Crass

apocalypsethen

Festival Express is good! Vote for it!

Dzee Szed

I want to pick The Wall, but my god I think I am not in the right headspace to hear people talk about The Wall these days.

Paul Anderson

People should see Festival Express, even if it never wins this poll. It's a uniquely up close personal time with all these 1970 music legends and the world they worked in without all the mythology.

A

Would still love to see views on "Sound! Euphonium", an anime about a Japanese HS concert band that will ring true to many-a band geek.

Matthew Sargent

Does the world really need more commentary on The Wall? It’s, like, so been done. Again and again, and again and again and again.

Christian Reiswig

I love Todd’s one-off joke where he called it “Get Rich and Stop Trying”.

Tiffany

I want to watch some Daria!

BIG!!!!HERB!!!!!!

I saw Get Rich or Die Tryin in the theater and I remember jack shit about it

Jeff

Was it a millionaire who said 'imagine no possessions'? A poor little schoolboy who said 'we don't need no lessons'? The rebel devil dogs ransack the shampoo shop...

pearlgreylatte

That VH1 concert went BIG in my household mainly because Carole King shows up too. My dad even got me and two of my peers to learn the vocal arrangement for "You've Got a Friend" that features Celine, Gloria and Shania to sing at a local charity concert [I did Gloria's part]

Nawf4

So this is just going to be a lot of raging on Doug Walker's review of the Wall movie.

Birthe_bird

Voting for Daria... but little chance against the Wall. Damn you Doug Walker!

Angela

Don't worry I'm planning on requesting it again since it's a clear second favourite so I fell like it'll have a better chance next poll, so long as no more big options get added lol

no

tbh i would be interested to hear what todd and lina got to say about most of these films. voted for daria - i'm assuming todd doesnt know what it is and lina was THE target audience when it aired. maybe next time :)

Benjamin Maier

Umbrellas of Cherbourg is one of the most gorgeous movies ever made fyi

Connor Rankin

Rest assured, I’m sure the Queen of the Morgandorffer name will win the poll next month. I just couldn’t NOT request The Wall during this segue into unfettered fascism

Birthe_bird

Todd mentioned Daria when they talk about "Everybody hurts"

no

hell yeah
