Hello and welcome to Friday, the best day!

You get TWO Fennel comics this week! She's been on a tear!

Mercifully, my toothbrush fell into the sink. The earrings required a total deep-clean of all the products and canisters next to the counter before I found them. (Maybe Fennel was just trying to get me to clean.)

Here's the original for that strip! I thought I should show you a picture of my little shelf, and I will, not because of the shelf per se...

(although, the shelf is pretty cute)

... but because I can't remember if I ever showed you this INCREDIBLE gift my talented friend Jon made?! LOOK AT IT!!

If it looks familiar, it's because he based it on a painting of Ollie doing yoga that I made years ago!

IT LOOKS JUST LIKE THE PAINTING!?! Jon is AMAZING. (He's also very not-online or I'd link to his stuff.)

Moving on.

I got the print shop down the street to print the 2024 Daily Comics books! I was originally going to drive all the way to Richmond to have them printed by a small shop that does great work (but you have to pick up in person). The shop in my town was more expensive, but then I remembered that this year is all about putting my money where my mouth is, which includes investing in my neighborhood.

Anyway, I developed a great rapport with a gal named Sadie who works there. She must've printed like 6 proofs before I okayed the print run (if you ordered a book, that's why it took so long to ship!).

Not that I think a kid would be interested in half the topics in the book, but... well, I dunno, THAT kid was CACKLING, so maybe I'm wrong!

Here's the original, but apparently one of you already bought it?! Y'all are QUICK, dang!

Here's your second dose of Fennel:

Ah, the immediate disinterest in something which has not been STOLEN. -_-

Here's the original! Remember to use the DAILYSMILE50 code at checkout for 50% off!

You'll note there's only 3 comics here, and a huge gap between dates. I spent the middle of the week starting a long-form comic (still in daily format) about a more in-depth topic that feels like it should all be shared together. I'll keep adding to it next week; I suspect it'll be done in time for next Friday's post. It's a topic that's on fire in headlines now, but from the naval-gazey perspective of yours truly, because I guess that's the best way that I work, and I needed to get some thoughts out on paper.

You'll see it soon enough. :) Until then, keep your heads above water and be especially nice to trans people, federal employees, and immigrants (or anyone who "looks like" an immigrant). They're really going through it right now. Love to you all (especially if you're in that group)!

You know the tin foil trick? Cats do not like to walk or jump on tin foil, too slippery? They're still going to try it but after a few attempts, they'll stop. After a few days of no loud crashes, take the tin foil off but leave a piece they can see... :::Cats ain't that stupid, human, trying to trick me... meh.:::

Fennel is a criminal. But not a smooth criminal.

Prettydragoon

Anything stolen is at least 20% cooler. (It are a fact. I know because of my learnings.)

dcorsetto

I do know that trick! I hate the look of tin foil (or the feel of double-sided tape, for that matter) so much that I prefer to just figure out other methods. I guess it works on me, too! ;)

Fennel and the bobby pin 100% explains cats. Also, "Fennel And The Bobby Pin" 100% needs to be a new fairy tale.

Amy ☣

I'm cackling at that last one especially, looking at my void beast sleeping peaceful on the bed. (We know she's only recharging for later hijinks.)

Danielle, part cat, confirmed.

Ronan will take anything of mine he sees (socks, hair ties), but when I give him toys that are similar replacements, he's like, "Nah. I'm done trying to get those things now." And then he doesn't touch that thing of mine again. RUDE.

Melissa Wilson

That’s really taking playing hard to get to the next level!

Minzoku Bokumetsu

That feels like cheating, taking your books straight off the printer before you get to see them! We have a local printer, but I've never had occasion enough to print anything needing their services =< (working on that)

Steve Boyko

Your friend Jon did an awesome job! I love that cats across the world have a universal disdain for toys given to them. This is also why I don’t buy cat beds. The cats sleep on coats or blankets or reusable grocery bags (or in them).

Minzoku Bokumetsu

Oh! Speaking of which, I got mine today! (just opened my mail) YAY FENNEL'S HALF SQUIRREL

Leslie Carter

I love that bas-relief of Ollie Jon made - a wood carving?? I'm jealous of his talent!

Ronan: "I have to take it from you. You can't just GIVE it to me. So rude!"
