Happy Lunar Eclipse Day to y'all! I had no idea the ePIPse comic from last week was so timely.

Luke and I went to see one of my favorite bands last week, and I was surprised to catch this recurrence...

They were really cute! My boots are cute, too, but in a very different, well-seasoned kind of way. Here's the original if it resonates with ya (remember the 50% off coupon at the bottom of this post!).

Our friend Erica came to town with her dog Zelda and her parents' two dogs, one of which I carried (I guess I like chihuahuas now).

Let's see how long the tale of this tail lasts. Here's the original! (I remembered to wash the gloves.)

I'm not sure how many people remember Erica, but she's the friend with cancer we raised money for a few years ago. I'm happy to report that she's doing very well, found a concoction to ease her chronic discomfort (RSO), and moved to a state that allows her easier access to it. She's been knocking off bucket list items left and right while she's feeling at her best. I'm really glad we got to see her!

Speaking of good friends, I visited Josie the other day, but it was more of a goodbye visit than a "tell me about all things trans" visit. She's moving to Europe because she doesn't feel safe here. In case you wondered how serious things have gotten in our "free" country. 🫠

Here's something more uplifting than the state of our union:

Needless to say, it's been rewarding watching her change into herself, too. Long-term friends who've known you since your cloudiest, most insecure days are the best kinds of friends. (I'm going to give this original to her.)

Here's a caricature tale I've told a lot of people throughout the years, so forgive me if you've heard it!

I would've never made it as an art teacher. Kids throw me completely off my game.

In case you know a middle school teacher or the parent of a tween boy who needs this, here's the original!

My birthday is coming up, and I asked my parents to give me the gift of their cleanliness, which is a trait I did not inherit...

I was once a broke photography major & figure artist, you see. Idk who relates to this one, but here's the original!

Here's one more classic caricature tale for ya! It's a two-pager, hence the lateness of today's post!

Caricature is a dangerous business, y'all.

I'm selling both pages here!

Remember to use DAILYSMILE50 for your 50% off discount! Thank you for keeping me fed (and allowing me to take Josie out for lunch).

Now I'm off to teach Girl Scouts how to draw cartoon faces for the weekend. If you know any 6th-12th grade Scouts in the Nation's Capital council (western MD, eastern WV, DC and some VA), they can take cartooning lessons from me every spring around this time at an event called Chill Out! Tell 'em to have their troop leader look into it. :)

Hope your weekend is full of some youthful spirit, be it kids dancing around like idiots, kids laughing their heads off about bananas, or kids who wanna be -whispers- b-b-basketball players.

What the fuck with that last one? Like, what is with people?

dcorsetto

Right? Smallest adult I have EVER met.

MaryAnne Glazar

Somewhere I have a drawing of me, nude, from when I modelled for a friend's art class, (good effin' grief!) nearly 60 years ago. (How'd I get this old? Where does it go?)

Amy Crook

I have to wonder how you still even HAVE squirrels after Pip's murder sprees. Survival instincts for the lose!

Dean Reilly

Dang, I would have taken the $200.

Andy Ihnatko

I couldn't help imagining the description of the suspect that the police get after a caricaturist gets mugged or something. "Be on the lookout for a man with thick eyebrows and a nose that's half the size of his face, believed to be riding a dinosaur and holding a pickleball paddle..."

Michael Steamweed

Former middle school teacher here. Oh, yes, pubescent boys (plus/minus a year) have those 3 modes: gross-obsessed, sex-obsessed, and silly-obsessed. Fortunately, we grow out of it by around age 95.

Andy Ihnatko

"Ok...Paris Hilton. And what should she be doing, specifically? Go into detail..." Your marker flashes across the paper incessantly as he continues to describe the scene over the course of five minutes. You finally turn the page around, and his face goes white. You hadn't drawn anything. Instead, you were writing a fully accurate transcript of what the kid said, word for word. With a calm manner that's terrifying in context, you inform him that he should work on convincing his parents that you deserve a huge tip on top of your fee, because the level of his success in that endeavor will be the difference between this sheet of paper going to him at the end of the event, or to his Mom...

I need retraining. I am so naive and Pollyannaesce that I used to just pass things like death threats over a drawing as just outlier crazy. Now, I wonder how those that perpetuate such things can possibly believe it's okay to do so (then I wish they could be caught in a similar circumstance but in reverse where THEY are the intended victim)

Teeceemcg

As you can imagine, I am approaching terminal velocity in our current hate filled environment

Andy Ihnatko

Time for an Inside Baseball question. When you're caricaturing, do you set up with your back to the wall so that you can see what's going on in the room (and to increase your safety while your attention is focused on the work), or do you sit with your back facing the crowd so that they can see the caricature coming together?

Minzoku Bokumetsu

they don't survive long enough to pass the word? 🤷 also, it's Ollie, I think

William Cole

Oh, man, I feel ya on being an oldster at shows front! Who let all these literal infants into the club?

Pete Jordan

Ha! Moments of gig reslisation you still have to come, "OMG I'm *three times* their age!" Still, at least I get (non-ironic 🙂) compliments about my dancing from them, sometimes 💃

Pete Jordan

Oh, and apropos nothing, I'm reading my GWS Compendium inbetween everything else; just got to the Confident Pussy Club and wondering if you ever did the shirts as merch? I remember the "happy as *two* clams" cards (that I haven't got to yet in the strip 🙂), but not the shirts… Anyhow, I've a friend who I'm sure would love one if they existed IRL (they make anatomically correct clit ear rings, amongst other things 🫶🏽)

Chris Mac.

I still don't think I'm the best version of myself and wonder if I ever will be.

dcorsetto

The good thing is "best" is just comparative, not "perfect," so, good news, even if it's not now, you'll become the BEST version of yourself at some point!

dcorsetto

I DID make those shirts a reality! I bet there are still a few in my garage, which I'll be clearing out in two weeks, soooo... ;)

dcorsetto

!!! Andy I LOVE this question!! I have a super intuitive habit when I set up, but I didn't realize what I was doing until a few years ago. I may just make this today's comic, thanks!

dcorsetto

Shiiiiiit why can't my brain come up with this stuff in the moment?? Genius!

dcorsetto

This isn't my story, so I won't make a comic about it, BUT: a friend of mine is a full-time caricaturist in Vegas. She's an excellent artist and specifically excels at likenesses (you can pass as a good caricaturist without being great at likenesses - just making people look good or having great design - but she's good at ALL of it. The whole enchilada). One night when she walked out to her car, she was mugged at gunpoint by some guy in the parking lot. She called the police afterwards, they gathered a lineup of suspects, and somewhere along the line (idk exactly what the process is like), she wound up drawing a caricature of the mugger BEFORE looking at the lineup, and won her case based on her ability to draw him after seeing him that night! I never saw the drawing, but I hope she drew him full-body, holding a gun and running away from the scene...

Pete Jordan

Well, if you do, let me know a price + shipping to Australia, and I'll make enquiries about preferred size 🙂

dcorsetto

It's Ollie! I suspect the squirrels are going with the "Quiverfull" approach as a method of balancing out the losses. ;)

Amy Crook

I knew Pip was wrong when I typed it, lol, but couldn't summon Ollie's name for the life of me. XD Well, hopefully there will be lots of babies to keep him occupied or something??

Andy Ihnatko

What a story! I bet the mugger's sentence felt twice as long, because he kept getting asked to tell it by the other inmates. (Or maybe he started to enjoy it, and kept polishing his delivery like an in-demand after-dinner speaker...)

Andy Ihnatko

Admittedly I've been bingeing "Better Call Saul" recently...

Cathi Andrews

As another Aussie, I'd happily join you in getting my mits on a shirt and splitting the shipping. Plus of course AusPost shipping to me. If that sounds possible to you (and no drama if it doesn't), lmk.

Pete Jordan

I'm in the UK, my friend is in Melbourne; I'm sure something could be arranged if this were to happen 🙂
