Figure Drawing, Wherein I Did Not Forget To Draw The Tattoo (NSFW) (Patreon)
Content
Tonight Michael mentioned that he never paints our models' tattoos, because then the painting suddenly becomes "a painting about a person who has tattoos."
I rarely remember to draw tattoos, simply because I'm looking past them at the structure of the body underneath, but I find Robbie's kinda-crappy star tattoo charming and enjoyable to draw, so about half the time it makes it into the drawing.
Anyway, HI! We're back on our Wednesday night figure drawing bullshit! Here are some 5-minute warmups:
My initial sketches for our final pose were pretty bleh, but here they are! I started with the big one, and then drew the little ones to simplify the shapes a bit.
I liked the dumb silly face on the top one.
Here's a lil grid of the process photos! I've been starting with green to really establish that this should be FUN and WEIRD.
I love how unhinged the colors got on that third photo. Here's the final, re-hinged version:
Still pretty vibrant! I'm finally feeling more competent about finding the shapes of the highlights now, too.
I really hope Michael posts his drawing from tonight; he busted out a set of pastels to shake shit up, and for most of the night his drawing looked like he'd sculpted Robbie out of cotton candy. Yellow, pink, baby blue. He kept bringing out another box of pastels during the break, hoping one of the boxes would have anything resembling a tan color, to no avail.
His skill for realism is so high, though, that I mean... it looked like Robbie'd been sculpted out of cotton candy by a professional cotton candy sculptor. Super cool.
So keep an eye on Micahel's Instagram, he may post it! In the meantime, here are some closeups of the my (97%-finished) painting!
A decent night for knees and feet!
We've got a model lined up for next week, so we should be back to our regular schedule for awhile! See ya then!
