Good Friday to you! I'm making this post a public post, to give you freeloaders* a taste of the good life (paying members get these daily comic posts every Friday!).

My life is SO HARD, lemme tell you about it.

I did spend most of the day frantically responding to emails, but that hour of snipping Oriental bittersweet in my yard really made up for it. I'm a simple being.

I spent last weekend with my family in Philly, so I skipped making dailies for a few days. I wonder how many of you notice this on each daily template (forgive the awkward wording on panel 2!)...

I woke up at 6 last Friday morning and was really bummed that I couldn't manage to eek out a comic Saturday morning to show it off. But that's okay because NOW YOU ALL KNOW.

Now I'm going to really confuse you, because I'm posting this Thursday and this Friday's comic pages today. That's because I made two comics this morning - I had two ideas and wanted to draw them both! I figured it'd make up for not doing any over Easter weekend.

I don't wanna be caught unprepared when scratch-n-sniff abilities reach our smartphones!

A little personal update: my old housemate Foster has settled in NYC, so I've been paying the full rent on my house for the past 6 months. I got this text from my property manager last night...

My daughter gets drafted to do face painting all the time ( Kiwani ) but she's bargained it down to fancy stickers most of the time.

I doubt it'll go up more next year, but it's an awfully big jump all at once! To be fair, it's only gone up twice in the 18 years I've lived here, so it's long overdue... but not great timing, between my own dwindling income and *everything else*!

Apropo of nothing, Katie and I checked in on her sister-in-law’s cat Billie while her SIL is away on vacation, and Billie is a tortie that has a single blonde (rear) paw just like Fennel!

They are, it's bananas. Shepherdstown is a super in-demand town for retirees from DC. My house is old and has a lot of... let's say, QUIRKS, but it's a huge 3 bed/3.5 bath with a 2-car garage and a big yard. There's a duplex down the street (no garage, much smaller yard) that just went up for rent, and EACH UNIT (less than half my house!) is $250 MORE than what I've been paying. So, the owners have been very generous toward me through the years. That said, I would have much preferred they increase it in small increments so I could plan ahead!

Every time you get up seems insanely early to me, so I'm not so much impressed as baffled lol. But Pip and I agree that smartphones just aren't that smart yet. OTOH it's good to brush your teeth after lunch anyway! ;)

Nuggy boots? Also, I've lived in my current place for 25 years and I still feel like an outsider here. Oddly enough, apart from my landlords, I've been here the longest of all my neighbors.

I used to be a sleep-in-til-11 person! I'm still not a "morning person" per se, but since I started getting up earlier, I've found I like the feeling of accomplishment before noon. It's still novel!

I try to brush my teeth before every podcast and livestream! I'm afraid that my previous meal or snack might have left some kind of film behind, and it'll create smacking noises when I open and close my mouth.

I’ll be honest, I never noticed the time at top right of your dailies. Whoops. Back when I kept a diary, I would note the start time and the stop time of every entry. It’s interesting to see how young me stayed up way later than older me does.

I joined a local charity as a trustee (a board member of the charity) and the chair didn't turn up for that meeting, or the next. I was asked if I wanted to be the interim chair and at the last meeting I got made the chair permanently! Never volunteer at large meetings! On the good side, I'm getting put in touch with people who can help me learn to be the best I can at this role...

Personal experience as balloon animal maker, don't make a leash for somebody's balloon dog unless you want to have every balloon dog owner come back to ask for a leash for theirs. Same goes for balloon sword belts for balloon swords.

I feel that rent increase. Last year my rent went up from 1,200$ to 1,850$. Like, yeah, I know property taxes and insurance went up (a little - I've got homeowner friends whose property costs went up about 10-15%) but my paycheck didn't go up by 50%! F---ing landlords.

I love checking out the wake up timestamps on the dailies! I often work nights so it’s common that I’m crawling into bed around when your dailies are labeled, seeing those early-ass timestamps is always a nice reminder of the variety of lived experiences out there :) Something I’ve managed to *completely miss* until now is that you have a thorn for Thursday in the day label, what a cool touch to the template! Sorry about the rent by the by, that’s rough. My current landlord is thankfully not inclined to raise rent, but my last one was a total miser. Housing in this country is…yeesh :/

Aww I love that perspective on the wake-up times! The thorn for Thursday was someone's idea here on Patreon, which I love, because there's a sort of interactivity in utilizing feedback from the very people reading the comics immediately, the following week. :) Uff, glad you have a better landlord now! Yeah, my one comfort is that we're all in this handbasket together...
