This afternoon I slipped into one of my favorite hometown antique stores - Old Glory Antiques in Frederick, Maryland - on my way home from lunch with my brother. I indulged in a speed run of 1/4 the building, since I didn't have time to do a full cavity search, so to speak.

On the way back out, I stopped when I saw this painting:

Idk what's going on here, but its deliciously 70s color scheme drew me in. I took this photo and decided to let it guide tonight's color scheme at figure drawing.

But first! Five-minute warmups.

We liked both of the seated poses the most, and in the end had our model do this one for the long pose:

I brought actual watercolors today (not the Inktense for once!), and amusingly, the color scheme was already "olive green and dark warm orange," so I was prepared.

Look, I know what I like.

Here's the process for the final!

(I coulda been more subtle with the furniture coverings, oops!)

I really liked this one! Here are some closeups for ya:

Feet and kneeees.

So... I think watercolors are back on the menu! We'll see what inspires a color palette next week. :)

Something about the face of the source painting reminds me of Boulet's cartoons?

I’d very much like to buy this, but can’t find the link! Am I just not seeing it?

THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! I've been wanting to buy one of your figure paintings for a while and was just waiting for The Right One -- and this was It! ❤️ So much to love about this piece...

I really love this one! The light shines through really well, and the intense color on the furniture just makes her glow more. Also, the knees are spot on! It's wild to really see how much less muddy this is than stuff you did a couple of years ago but I can really see it!

Awwww David!! You're so sweet, I'm grateful you jumped on it!! Thank YOU!

Ooooo it'd be REALLY cool to see a "knees 10 years ago to now" comparison!! Thanks for noticing, Amy! <3
