Tiny Batch of Dailies for your Friday Evening! (Patreon)
Content
Happy Friday! I've got just a few comics for y'all today, and they are DUMB. Let's go!
Smash Brothers fans, this one's for you and literally no on else:
Every time Luke plays Shulk I hear these two lines over and over again coming from the living room. This is what I assume it's all about. (Luke plays Shirtless Shulk and I'm kinda kicking myself for not drawing that version.)
If you're a Shulk fan and you're REALLY FEELING this comic, here's the original art for it! Scroll down to the end of this page for your discount code. :o
It took a whole week to finish this tedious-ass comic!
My fridge is very PAY NO ATTENTION TO THAT MAN BEHIND THE CURTAIN! Look! Look at the STRAWBERRIES, they're ORGANIC and LOCAL! (Local friends, if you would like a bottle of unopened moscato, please come take it.)
If you relate to this too hard, and would like to put this comic on your fridge with magnets to warn visitors of the impending fridge-shame they're about to encounter, here's the link to the original!
I spent last weekend in Asheville, whereupon my friend Emily Hope Price just happened to be performing her last show with Kishi Bashi and Tall Tall Trees! Katie and I went to the Grey Eagle to see them play Sunday. Emily was part of the band Pearl and the Beard with my other friend Jocelyn Mackenzie, and Jeremy Styles.
How do I know Emily? Well, it's embarrassing, so I made a comic about it.
Imagine agreeing to stay the night at a stranger's house, only to find a collection of carefully arranged photos of your face, displayed in the center of that stranger's drawing board, surrounded by rough sketches of, again, your face.
Anyway here's proof she didn't run screaming and ban me for life!
By the way, the character design that was inspired by Emily was none other than Beatrice in Girls With Slingshots!
Beatrice is somehow nothing like Emily, but still has Essence of Emily. I can't explain it.
Here's a bunch of photos from the Asheville signing!
I can't believe Assistant Katie still has this shirt from nearly 20 years ago (!!!!).
I got to see my old pal Chris Sparks! Our good friend Richard Thompson of the Cul de Sac comic strip died due to Parkinson's disease a few years ago, and Chris helps raise funds for the Michael J. Fox Foundation by auctioning off hand-drawn coasters. I drew these two to be auctioned off at Heroes Con in Charlotte, NC in June:
I'm terrible at remembering to take photos with people, but luckily Katie's very good at remembering. (We found Mothman!)
Before I head out to my pal Ren's Here to Pee all-trans comedy show tonight (there's one in all 50 states!), here are a few sketches I mindlessly doodled at Art Night this past week.
(You can see Shirtless Shulk practice in the top left corner there!)
I just mounted the chicken, cicada, and mantis to bristol board and cut them out in case you wanna own one! They're cute and small. :) Here are some closeups. First, a member of the neighborhood Free Range Gang:
The first cicada I've seen this year!
And I was about to say this is "just a praying mantis" but when has a praying mantis ever been JUST a praying mantis.
Praying mantis!!
(Original PRAYING MANTIS here!)
Remember to use your I-love-you-for-being-here-on-Patreon discount code! Typing DAILYSMILE50 at checkout will get you 50% off any of these pieces.
Last note before I go! I'll have the "Indivisible" pride flag stickers in the store next week - I'm still figuring out how many I can shove into an envelope and send out with a regular stamp to save you on shipping!
Til next week, lovelies! And hey, between now & then, check out Pearl and the Beard on Spotify, Soundcloud, Amazon, iMusic, whatever music planet you live on. You're welcome!
