And you know what Friday means in Latin, right? It means DAILY COMICS DAY, BABES!

This one's from last week, but I didn't finish it til this morning. Thanks to Eleanor for the email!

Man, caricaturists LOVE a big shnoz. We love a big ANYTHING.

My bills are getting paid, I'm getting back to being financially stable, and I'm super lucky that I have other options that are in creative fields. I don't have an answer to Eleanor's question, but I want to get back to Elephant Town as soon as I can afford to. I really, really hope that's early next year.

Patreon just fancied up their creator interface, so this first comic's being sent out to everyone who signed up for updates here (hello!!), but the rest of the comics should be visible to only my paying patrons. If you're one of 'em, scroll down to the next comic!

If you can't see the next comic, you can upgrade to literally the lowest available tier (it's $2/mo, or $22.80 for a year if you choose "pay annually") and read the rest of this week's daily comics, as well as every week's daily comics on Fridays.

If you like my figure drawing, I share any and all of my figure studies (even the bad ones) with everyone in the $5/month tier, which includes a half-off coupon code for all figure drawing related things in my online store.

Oh! And I include a coupon code for all tier members to get 50% off my original comics art in my store, which means these dailies are only $25 apiece, which is basically just 3 bucks if you include the whole year's membership. That's good math, baby!

Okay I hate promoting myself, let's read comics.

I said goodbye to my dear friend Konrad last week, in the most stressful way...

It may have been five alarms, but that may as well be seven alarms. Seven alarms set to PM.

This one's for sale if you'd like it! Remember to scroll down to the last comic on this post to get the 50% off coupon code.

Here's a garden update for you. -_-

I did it. I killed them all. (Except all the new ones that I keep finding.)

Here's what my once-majestic kale patch looks like now.

Anyway, this comic's for sale in case you, too, whisper "I'm sorry" to every pest you kill in your yard.

I've had caterpillars on the brain lately, so strap in!

Are cabbage moths just one good marketing campaign away from being the It Caterpillars?? They're very witchy, and witchy is very in.

You can own the original for this witchy moth comic if you want it!

Here's a sappy one for ya.

It's from an old trampoline accident, and lots and lots of coffee.

We don't have a specific date, but sometime around this time 12 years ago, I met Luke. He didn't have as many eye crinkles back then, and neither did I. Our dentist did a bang-up job on his tooth, but I found the crack kinda charming tbh.

(Obviously this original's going to Luke, but maybe I'll make a similar comic one day for my fellow saps to have. 🖤 )

Here's one about everyone's favorite tortico.

Zero shower incidents since Fennel moved in.

Anyone else have a shower kitty? This one's for you, if ya want it!

If you order any original art, remember to use the coupon code DAILYSMILE50 at checkout for the 50% off discount!

It's been awhile since I've given you a garden update. Lotta dead and dying stuff out there, as we hit the end of summer, but maybe I'll have sunflower seeds soon!

Quetza for scale. Actually, garden for scale; now you can see how small Quetza is!

These are Sonja sunflowers, which I bought because the spelling is the same as my bff Sonja, whom some of you long-time followers remember as Hot German Chick.

The monarch caterpillars are in that patch of scraggly plant just to the right of my window!

Behold, the only royal family I pay any attention to:

I'll keep ya posted on these chunky worms. They should be sleeping in teal sleeping bags any day now...

Enjoy your weekend, my dears! Especially if you're in one of those magical careers that give you an extra day off next week!

The humans are VERY capricious when it comes to the definition of "pests." I think about it every time someone posts bloody murder about the squirrels getting into their backyard bird feeders. I mean, dude: you're putting a giant container of seeds out there but NO NO NO they're NOT for the furry critters, they're ONLY for the feathered critters, and you castigate those who won't honor your fake and unfair little rules?

Thanks as always for the fun comics! I will say, I’m used to being able to tap on the comics to zoom in on them in for my poor failing eyesight, and I can’t do that now that they are links. (The linked store page also isn’t good for zooming and panning around on my phone). Not a huge deal, and I get that sales are important if this helps, but if it’s good either way, I liked the old way. 😉

Your train story gave me painful flashbacks to a time when a friend was giving me a lift to the Amtrak station. I knew – we BOTH knew – that I was either going to JUST make the train or JUST miss it. It came down to the wire, but it looked likely that I was going to make the train! The station was just across the street from this one last traffic light up ahead! And the light was GREEN! Yay! …Then it flipped to yellow, just a moment before we were about to enter the intersection. And he STOPPED for the yellow light. He even had to lean on the brakes a little to avoid stopping in the intersection. When I say that I JUST missed the train, I mean that I ran ran RAN to the platform to where the train was waiting, and when I was just ten feet away from the open doors it started moving. And the conductor had what seemed to be a full twenty minutes to apologize and explain that although the train was moving only marginally more quickly than continental drift, alas, he was forbidden to permit passengers to board while the train was in motion. Sorry. It's rule 24-8.2 of the Conductor's Code. He had a copy of it in his pocket somewhere. Just give him a moment. Oh! Actually, here are some pictures of his newly-born nephew. He probably only has time to show me seven or eight of them before the train has moved too far for me to see, but… I think about this incident every time I have EVERY REASON TO YELL AT SOMEONE, but owing to specific circumstances (such as an offer to drive me to the train station so I won't have to pay for a week's parking, which was made as an unsolicited act of thoughtfulness and kindness) I mustn't.

My parents bought an above-ground temporary pool for the summer a few years ago and it came with a lanyard labeled “WATER WATCHER” for whoever is watching the pool as lifeguard to wear. Every time Freddie comes to supervise me in the shower I ask him if he’s going to be my Water Watcher.

See, this is how interesting your "behind the curtain" caricature posts are. I would have thought that a…er…"distinctive feature" would present a minefield for you. Don't you have to navigate a path between "cartoony" ("WHY did you make Julia's eyebrows so thick?! She's in the bathroom, crying!") and "truthful" ("That looks nothing like me. I have a BIG nose. You're a terrible caricaturist. I'm glad Google's CEO sent me down here to advise him on whether or not to hire you for the company's new Vice-President Of Global Caricature Operations position…") What kinds of things make you think "this one is going to be easy and fun" as the subject sits down, and what things make you think "HOO-boy…"?

My dad squirts the squirrels on their bird feeders with a water gun aimed out a kitchen window. It deters the squirrels for approx 0.03 seconds and they get right back on. At this point, I think it’s just a game for both parties 🤣

We had a cat that enjoyed the shower like Fennel does. He had respiratory issues as a kitten and the steam helped. He just never grew out of the habit of being near the shower. 🤷🏾‍♀️

Luke JUST called me to explain this! I won't link the images anymore, thank you! Honestly it's just one less thing for me to have to set up. ;) Appreciate the feedback!

The strip with Fennel reminds me of the Merton Prayer (written by a Trappist monk): "The fact that I think that I am following your will does not mean that I am actually doing so. But I believe that the desire to please you does in fact please you. And I hope I have that desire in all that I am doing.…"

I wish I could comment a photo to share the native wildflower garden I started, inspired by you! My nasturtium EXPLODED. The California bluebells and fivespots are the first to pop up.

Amy Crook

One small advantage to only having flowers and herbs is that there's less pests to worry about! Most of our lilacs are establishing well for winter, but there's a couple that are just struggling, probably due to uneven soil patches in our weird yard. Though all yards are weird, aren't they? Also, my 17yo kitty Pod is now TriPod! And he wanted me to say hi to your kitties. He's recovering well, but being 17 still sleeps a lot. a LOT a lot.

Andy Ihnatko

The garden center calls it "a squirrel-proof bird feeder accessory." The squirrels call it "an enrichment activity." Nice to get in a bit of exercise before dinner, to work up an appetite…

I has a shower 🐈‍⬛. She's also a leap (blessedly weightlessly in utter contempt for the laws of physics) onto my shoulders when I'm sat nekkid on the toilet in the night 🐈‍⬛.

David Neale-Lorello

AND the garden envy continues (which is so weird, because I'm not a gardener at all): I have had for several years a small "grove" of milkweeds in front of my house, which I love, but which seems mostly to be ignored by local monarchs. ☹️ I did find a dead almost-developed chrysalis the other day, but no live mini-tiger-sausages. Thanks for sharing the pix! 😍

Mrs

Aw, Fennel is such a good guard!

Tim Pendergast

I feel so deprived! Never had a shower kitty or a cat that demanded to be in the bathroom with me or liked to attack things on the TV.

Minzoku Bokumetsu

I do not feel bad for pests BUT the only ones I've genuinely had, thanks to my red thumb, are SPOTTED LANTERNFLIES and THEY CAN DIE IN A FIRE (not really, they can die by neem oil and/or vinegar and/or stomping)

Robert Heinig

Shower guardian reminds me of "The Price" by Neil Gaiman.

Iitu Ducin

My youngest cat once needed to get cleaned in the shower after getting some oil in his fur from lounging under a car. Ever since he would warn me very loudly whenever I stepped in the shower. Don’t I know it’s wet in there?!

dcorsetto

Oooohh damn that sounds MAGICAL!! I'd love to see that! (I had to look up "fivespots," cute!)

dcorsetto

WHOA, did your kitty lose a leg?! At 17, even?! I bet you're pampering him! HI TRIPOD

dcorsetto

Weirdly, the milkweed plots in town are all devoid of mini-tiger-sausages, too! I don't know what it was about my skinny milkweed (it's called Hairy Balls Milkweed, hurr hurr) that attracted ALL of them over here. My hairy balls bring all the sausages to the yard, I guess? I'll be sure not to repeat that one out loud...

Katelyn Sweigart

I posted on Insta and tagged you, so hopefully you can!

Amy Crook

Yes, to weird rare cancer, poor thing. But he's really doing well, pretty independent, pretty much off his meds and everything! I'd say he's jealous of your kitties getting to hunt but he's the least outdoor cat I've ever met, lol. Out is where the Bad Things Happen.

dcorsetto

Oh!! Thank you, but I can't find it! (IG has such a confusing notification system!)

Katelyn Sweigart

My handle is my name @katelynsweigart and it is my most recent post ❤️

Love the train adventure haha

Oh my god, I had a shower protector cat! I had no idea this was a thing! Okay, that confirms my change of preference from what I told you once. Fennel is now my favorite.
