Hello, my little Fridaylings!

I'm going to start off with yesterday's daily so I can put it above the paywall, because I made it specifically for the newsletter I sent out last night, and then forgot to include it!

And that's how I forgot to tell you about SPX this weekend! (Here's the original art if you can relate too hard to this method of not accomplishing things! Scroll down for your 50% off Patreon discount code!)

Okay, here's the down-low for the Small Press Expo! (If you sub to my newsletter, you've already read all this; skip until you see a line of food emojis.)

SPX is this Saturday & Sunday in Bethesda, MD

I'll be at table K13 snuggled up with Monica Gallagher, Jamie Noguchi, Nicole Chalmers, and Babs New(d)

I'll have the usual - GWS compendiums, Daily Comics collections, stickers, original Daily Comics art, and more!

PLUS I'm opening 5 slots each day for 4x6" portraits for $40 each, a la this:

my Figure Drawing for Cartoonists workshop is Sat 2-3:30 in the Glen Echo room, BUT:

our workshop filled up in 24 hours (it's the MOST POPULAR workshop at SPX?!?!), so if you want to get in, come down to the room EARLY and see if they have any no-shows

if you're a Patreon member of mine in any paid tier, LET ME KNOW if you see me at SPX!! I'm happy to give you the same 50% discount on original art, as well as any other Patreon discount I offer in the store. :)

Hope to see some of y'all there!! Okay, back to comics:

(the emojis will make sense in 3... 2...)

I would probably be stringy. I'd be the discount meat at your shittiest grocery store.

Here's the original art for this one, my fellow weirdos!

The people I surround myself with really get me, and you can tell because when I tell them Luke got a puppy, their first question is always:

I think Ollie sees Quetza as a larger (and therefore more valuable game) hairless squirrel.

Here's the original for this! Rest assured Fennel has been far more bold this week, and is coming downstairs in small doses.

The little black heater has already returned to the kitchen.

Luckily, for now, I'm keeping myself entertained by the daily growth of my autumn crop of sugar snap peas.

Here's the original art for the comic above!

I have so much on my plate today - it being Last-Minute Convention Prep Day - I almost didn't make a comic this morning. But then I realized I'd be WAY happier if I just made a simple little one, and happy d = productive d, so, I did.

I do this every morning while my tea is steeping.

I can't describe how satisfying this feels.

Obviously if you buy this original, I'm including a packet of cosmo seeds. (Frankly, if you buy any original and ask for cosmo seeds in the "note to seller," I'm going to include them, so go ahead, go nuts. Go SEEDS, even!)

And this being the last comic for the week, here's your 50% off discount code! It's DAILYSMILE50 (it's the same, it has not changed, you all saw it coming). All originals are $50 for regular-ass people, $25 for you, my irregular-ass patrons.

And now, off I go, possibly to construct a new display! Possibly to try on new outfits for my weekend! Certainly, to forget to pack something important. And definitely to re-dye my hair.

See some of you this weekend! Have a nice one, wherever the weekend takes you!

LOL @ "go ahead, go nuts. Go SEEDS, even!"

You realize that you've independently come up with the basic plotline of "Soylent Green," of course.

William Cole

I was thinking along the lines of "A Modest Proposal from first principles", but yes.

Zed

I grow sprouts indoors and start seeds in like... January... to get that feeling

dcorsetto

Thank you for knowing, and, you're welcome. u_u

Ash

I grew up on a farm, so my reaction to eating animals is usually more on the lines of, “Meh, I didn’t like them anyway.” I think this would transfer well to eating people, though, if they described the diet, I’d probably just opt for salad.

dcorsetto

I finally watched Soylent Green for the first time and I've gotta say, I was VERY disappointed by the plethora of good puns they left on the table throughout. (To be fair, I'd written the script in my head since the moment I learned the plot in my teens/20's, and was expecting a very different kind of movie!)

Ash

“Soylent green is people! Delicious, delicious people!”

The other Alan

I have those same cosmos, and I feel the same way! Anyone who asks gets a large bag of seeds and the advice to plant them where you want them forever, because they WILL always be there. And five feet away. They are immune to fire, double-digging, frost, and any insect I've seen. But oh, the bees do love them.

Chris Wichtendahl

If I were ever sold as meat, I'd have to be recalled

dcorsetto

I think this is why I love them so much!! My "favorites" have a common theme: they WANT to live. And helllll do these things wanna LIVE!! So glad you have some, too!

Michael Steamweed

You stringy-meat hoomans make for good stew meat. Er, so I hear. According to reports.

Amy Crook

Hmmm now I have to think of what I can order to get cosmo seeds for next year. We mostly trend to purple in our yard, but anything the bees love, we love. We also have a mostly-upstairs cat, she is just not a cat person and leaves the downstairs to the other cats, and cuddles her humans when they're up there. I can't blame her, if I was cat-sized I'd probably avoid these weirdos, too. ;)

Katelyn Sweigart

Our nasturtium is starting to climb up the lattice we have hiding crawlspace and it's magical!

dcorsetto

Oohh if you do purple, I would ALSO like to send you hyacinth bean seeds! I gotta say, orange cosmos against purple is a REALLY good look, so I'd recommend popping some alongside your purple paradise!

dcorsetto

Ooohh yessss! Mine is finally feeling like the coast is clear, and has started really popping up, too, now that it's not THE DESERT out there!

Amy Crook

Aaah now I have to buy something for the seeeds!!!

Tim Pendergast

Nice to see the word "steeping" make a comeback. Seems like it was a word only grandmother used when I was a kid (we had tea every night after dinner) and now I hear it all the time!

dcorsetto

Weird, I've never known tea without the word steeping!

Tim Pendergast

Seems like tea disappeared in the 80s & 90s and in the 2000s it came back as a quick thing with no time for steeping. ;)

dcorsetto

Ooh interesting! I started drinking it on my own in the 2000s, so I guess I didn't notice - my experience with tea had always been from my mother and her 50s/60s/70s vernacular around it. :)

David Neale-Lorello

How does one sign up for the portrait? Do you have a 2:30 or3pm slot available Saturday?

Minzoku Bokumetsu

I feel like human would be questionable meat at best, given that you can't REALLY know anyone's complete history (unless you get into eating babies like in A Modest Proposal) I keep wanting to recommend the restaurant in the game Technobabylon, but the relevant portion isn't really easy to show off, haha Closest I can do: https://youtu.be/VfjFzAx2GAw?si=KQk2IqnThfG56Npt&t=876 In the kitchen: https://youtu.be/VfjFzAx2GAw?si=Nj4O2N9ckgg_Of9G&t=2300 also: https://www.vice.com/en/article/legal-ethical-cannibalism-human-meat-tacos-reddit-wtf/

'webcomic artist contracts kuru despite being told eating folks doesn't count as recycling, quoted as 'being curious''

Jordan Smith

Your figure drawing is SO GOOD, no wonder it filled up!

Leslie

I love your garden updates! I'm attempting fall sugar snap peas as well, for the first time in my case… What varieties do you grow?

Erik Greenfrost

I was for sure that weird kid in High School that read "A Modest Proposal" and went "hmmmmm.... this could work..." and someone had to explain to me that it was satire.
