Here we are, first Wednesday of the year, and back to drawing the nude body of a friend next to the clothed body of another friend!

Today we actually had one more body in our midst; one of the painters renting the back of my house (we haven't found an elegant way to put that yet) joined us, which was a delight! Charlotte is a super talented and dedicated oil painter entering the same kind of art world that Michael's been in for decades now, so it was fun to listen to them talk in a language I've always just heard from the sidelines.

But, back to the drawings, because I've got a horror movie to watch with Ryan tonight. Five minute poses!

For the long pose, I "drew the lines out," as I always do...

And then sketched this simple outline and decided it was just the energy I was looking for.

And then... failed to capture that energy on the final page.

Ah well. The energy I DID manage to capture was... bright colors, which I started out with, as you can see on the right.

I just received my first order of Nicker gouache, neon pink and teal green, two colors I can't mix from scratch in watercolor.

Idk guys, I am reeeeeally digging neon pink these days. I think this is gonna be my neon phase. I brought the new colors to figure drawing, and mixed them (along with a bit of white gouache at times) with the watercolors to kick up the brightness a notch.

I don't really know what I was expecting to finish with here, but at some point I decided to just paint each shape the color I saw it, exaggerated, and detached from its surrounding colors.

I really just took this last photo to compare to the scan, to see how different they look. Here's the scan!

Yeah, WAY better in the scan. Now you can tell that the neon was actually neon. Look at that outrageous underboob shadow!

I hope you're outraged.

This was a blast. Who knows where I'm going with these 90's-ass colors, but I hope you're along for the ride.

If you'd like the original for this weird dip into bright colors, it's up in the shop now! As always, it's 50% off for my beloved Art Nerds (that's you), which makes it only $40 - just use the discount code ARTNERD50. Enjoy!

Oh, what knobby knees! What bumpy hips! I love the legit swan neck, too, and those pops of colour, while not at all my aesthetic, are very cool in yours.

I love how she got all giraffed out. And honestly, the colors don't look that much wilder than your usual lovely pallete.

>one of the painters renting the back of my house (we haven't found an elegant way to put that yet) Your Artist In Residence. Yes you are the primary artist in that residence so it does feel a bit recursive. Like an Escher print.

Chris Mac.

I don't think the colors look too different, but the yellow does look less muted. Love all the knees, bumps, and dip hips. I was looking at the two pictures I have from you and I realized one of them is from the same model, but with more of a normal caucasian skintone. I'll have to post a pic of the two side by side.

Forever impressed with your bold ass use of colors on the figures!

Ooo I like the Artists in Residence. :) Except they don't live here... I'll work with that as a starting point, though!

dcorsetto

Ooohh that's fun, to notice the same model more than once!

Luke Steichen

I absolutely love how this turned out! The colors are super inspiring! I will have to be brave at some point and try out a scheme like this on painting a miniature.

dcorsetto

OoooOOOooo I would LOVE to see the results of that!

Art-lease-ts? Not sure if that comes across, but it sounds good in my head. Also, I looooove the neon underboob 'shadow'.
