I spent the week before Christmas handmaking gifts for my family (SO PREPARED)! I thought you might like to see the process shots. :)

I'm falling more and more in love with gouache the more I use it. The idiotic pull to make full graphic novels in gouache is, I won't lie, very strong. BUT... idiotic. ;)

Wherever you are and whatever you celebrate, I hope you're winding up a relaxing post-holiday week. <3 I'll have a little post for y'all regarding the State of the Book soon!

What great gifts for your family! So thoughtful and beautiful. Inspiring, too. I plan to take photos around my neighborhood so I can sketch from them over the next few days.

https://tinyurl.com/y8vrlpf2 The campus near my place has a planetarium and a scale model of our solar system. The sphere inside the pyramid in this photo represents the sun. I like to take my dog for a walk along that route so I can say we've walked past all the planets. On a whim, when I inked in my sketch I used a fine-tipped grey marker. Next time I think I'll try a marker with more tip variation to see what that feels like.

lovely! I hand make all my Christmas cards and i waited way too long to start this year due to life in general. So i only had time for one hand made gift of a painting of a cardinal for my Grandma. I always think I'll have more time to make gifts!
