My second painting was of Jorge Torrealba! His caricatures are always 3d and crazy and almost always have an animation element to them. He did this weirdo doll of the first girl I drew, and this clapping one of another Japanese artist.

And also this long collage of trash, which had one of my favorite caricatures of Lar up at the top. :)

If you're in the $5 tier and saw my last figure drawing post, this is what I was talking about when I said that Nolan's dynamic figure drawing workshop got me pushing my figures more! Sometimes it's hard to remember that we're allowed to take a pretty mild pose - like Jorge's in the photo - and just stretch it however we please to make it more interesting. Gotta undo years of "draw what you see, not what you THINK you see" learning in the studio!

Sidenote about the hair: I re-mixed my brown paints from scratch frequently to get  more variety in the hair colors, which is why there's a lot of variety throughout those dark squiggles. You can see a lot of red in some of them. It's like... small batch mixtures, intentionally, so that I would constantly run out of pre-mixed brown and have to make a new batch from dark blue, dark green, and dark red.

(Occasionally I'd "cheat" and throw in some pre-mixed burnt sienna, but most of the squiggles were just primary & secondary colors!)

If you're an American Thanksgiving celebrator, I hope yours is enjoyable tomorrow and none of your family members brings up politics even once! <3

I love these! I can't believe you didn't use like a liquid mask while you were laying down the background! The outline is so clean!

YEAH!! I brought masking fluid, but I've had SUCH a hard time scraping it from paper in the past, I decided not to bother. It took a lot less time to just carefully edge the whole thing with water, then mop-brush water around that and drop in the colors after.
