Thanks to NJGR (I think!) for the Dramatic Dragonfly prompt, although my boyfriend insists I drew a grasshopper. No pencils on this one, woohoo!

I think I spent the same amount of time I would have with pencils, just instead of penciling, I spent that time thinking about what needed to go in front (and therefore needed to be drawn first).

I diverted immediately from my "no pencils" rule and instead decided to practice drawing designs that fit loosely into the golden ratio, just to get a feel for it, which was easier to do digitally. I'll get back to straight-to-inks work later, she said, clearly avoiding that which was most challenging to her.

Here's a page of little digital drawings I did at Art Night Sunday, a little yesterday, and some this morning.

And here they are with the golden ratio:

Guess which one I drew during Art Night with my drinking buddies.

Off to yoga I go! I don't know why but it's really soothing to draw little versions of myself doing yoga poses.

Actually, I thought mantis. But I'm a biology geek.

Aperture

Same! Cute either way.

I think I try to draw every bug like it's a mantis, because I love them so much. (I also didn't look up reference so I just put its legs wherever!)

I LOVE the yoga pose ones! It makes me think about that practice of assuming the model's shape before beginning a figure drawing sketch so you can really feel the weight and heft of the pose. Drawing from yoga feels like the advanced version of that because the whole practice is about inhabiting the form and understanding your body within it. Anyway, you can totally tell that you've spent time in those poses <3

I also thought mantis but that's cool because I love them.

I liked your adding the golden ratio to those drawings... it's everywhere!

Laura J Testa-Reyes

I agree, that looks more like a cricket than a dragon fly, but still looks fun.

Amy Crook

you really snuck that masturbating butterfly in there, didn't you? XD

NJGR

I can see that, after going back and looking at the legs more. :)

NJGR

Look at them, being a Drama Dragonfly! I know the other one is frustrated by it, but I love them and their dramatic dragonfly ways. <3 (And it was me!) -Jess

NJGR

(And the yoga poses look like stickers!)

Is he REALLY masturbating if he's caught half a second after he stopped jerking off and just happens to be still ejaculating?? (yes)
