Technically these Shepherdstown signs were "work drawings," but I had WAY too much fun on them and counted them as my daily drawings for the day. These will be some of the spoof businesses in my new book, Elephant Town! (Sneak Peek patrons, I'll show you the original signs later for comparison.)

I've also been practicing drawing interiors for the book by drawing from photos of actual Shepherdstown locations. Jala Yoga (top, my photo) and Shaharazade's tea room (bottom,  someone else's photo from when it WAS Shaharazade's, RIP) are two locations that our characters will frequent. Figured I'd better start getting used to them now!

We call Food Lion just about everything from Food Kitty to Food Dog to Food Panther to... wait, not we, I. Just me, I do that.

'Barley Legal' is the best possible name for a law firm.

"Cut Your Hair Hippie" is right up there with "Renegade Barber Shop" (which is a real place here)! <3

"Food Kitty" and "Two Purls" are my absolute favorites.

Those are my top two as well. :)

Always so beautiful and atmospheric, Danielle. You capture the heart of the creatures and places you draw!

Is "House de fluer" meant to be a florist? If so, it should be spelled "fleur".

Someone did mention that to me, thanks! I hope I remembered to change it... not sure we'll even see it in the book, but it was handy to make up these signs early so I can just drop them in when I need a business in the background. :)
