Last night I watched the first two episodes of Pen Ward's new show, The Midnight Gospel, which was all the 420 I needed for 4/20. It was trippy, beautiful and funny and fantastically weird! Turns out the show's audio is just philosophical interviews between the other creator, Duncan Trussell, and a random assortment of people, overlaid with non sequitur animations that only vaguely connect with the dialogue here and there. I like it.

Afterwards I looked up the interviewees from the second episode, and fell into a wormhole of podcasts and articles about meditation and spirituality. I listened to an hour-long talk about craving and wanting. "Whatever has the nature to arrive, will also pass away" was something the speaker, Joseph Goldstein, quoted. I wrote that one down with the hopes I'd come across it once in awhile and remember to let go of passing desires, mainly the desire to not get out of bed.

ANYWAY.

While I was listening to that, inspired by the crazy colors in Midnight Gospel, I decided to draw Mathew using the crayons that've been sitting out on my drawing board for the last few days (I'm trying to convince myself to do a video tutorial using crayons, I'm just... really averse to speaking into a recording device!). It was fun and I'll probably do it again!

Does the desire to stay in bed ever truly pass, though? XD

Not for at LEAST an hour in my bed, and it only ends because Pip starts crying at the door, and somehow he's even cuter than staying in bed.

My two kitties join me on the bed and then it's just DOOM for me ever getting up enough willpower to get up. Which.. explains my current lack of sleep schedule.

Me, but with my 2 dogs, plus the ocean time sleep radio on the Headspace app, which makes them sleep through outside noises....

I particularly like the multicoloured one on the left, but also how fluid all of the linework looks. As a non-artist, I imagine crayon could be pretty unforgiving.

To be honest, it was REALLY fun! You just have to be gentle and light and let it build up slowly. :) Thanks Cathi!
