Well, now I want blueberry scones.

(Thanks for being so cool about the late update; Pip let me stay in bed 'til noon and I'm feeling a lot better!)

There is literally nothing about this comic so far that I don't love. Thank you.

Laura J Testa-Reyes

It makes me want to move to this little town. I love how you show all these little details.

Nofar Spalter

Danielle, the framing on these is phenomenal, and the way you create tension and interest out of the tiniest of details is amazing.

Megan Serenco

These are so atmospheric. Some of my favorite work so far

Andy Ihnatko

My regular neighborhood coffeeshop -- the one that baked amazing blueberry scones -- reopened for takeout. With a simplified menu of bakery options of course, but the scones made the cut. Except they changed the recipe. They're now all 100% gluten-free. I'm trying very, very hard to focus on being happy for the many people out there who can't eat tastygoods that aren't gluten-free. I am only achieving partial success but I'm going to continue working on it.

Andy Ihnatko

(Also: gorgeous cinematography on this chapter! These lighting effects are spectacular.)

These vignettes, Danielle. Wow! From her hand to the coffee pot, the napkins,... just each small piece brought me joy and peace. And, heavens, but do I ABSOLUTELY feel that last panel so much. Each chapter is perfect in its own way, but I just needed these small moments of breathe so bad right now!

NJGR

Oh, and special shout out to that gorgeous "BZZT" up there! I see you and appreciate you, lovely onomatopoeia. 😁

Ipshita Sharma

This is like visual ASMR. Why are you so awesome!

Cat

Maybe, by putting this into the world, THIS is what will happen to that space! Fingers crossed for blueberry scones...

Cab

Telling a story without dialogue or faces is a hell of a feat. This is fantastic, Danielle!

dcorsetto

Oohh woe to you, though!! It's very sweet of you to think about all the happy gluten-free scone eaters out there, but even as someone who's avoided gluten for 20 years and LOVES gluten-free scones, I can tell it's not as good at The Real Thing. Maybe they would entertain an order for a dozen of the original recipe? Of course, that would mean you'd HAVE to eat a dozen scones, but... there are worse fates?

dcorsetto

Ooo which space? Pressed Flour's old digs?

dcorsetto

I knew *someone* would appreciate that! I'm real happy with how it came out. :)

Cat

Shoo - this looks like the Bistro to me! I haven't heard anything about a new bakery but will keep ears open. No one will ever replace PF, tho...

Akanksha Sharma

Agree completely! I loved how you even drew the reflected second red light indicator switching on! So glad this is becoming a book

Andy Ihnatko

I 'd be too afraid that my query would be misconstrued and I'd wind up as a story on the "Tales From Your Server" subreddit. ("Yes, you heard me right: this jerk _actually_ thought I was going to step away from the counter, go right into the kitchen, and make a batch of scones _just_ for him...") No, I've decided to just be happy for people like you, who for one reason or another told Gluten that you were going out to get a pack of cigarettes and never came back. I've redlined the monthly Scone budget and redirected those funds to this innovative new "Get one of those awesome bacon cheeseburgers and fries from the place next door every Wednesday night" project that seems to have turned a lot of heads up in the boardroom.

Andy Ihnatko

Now that I think of it, the neighborhood has pivoted strongly toward the Danielle Corsetto demographic since your visit. Gluten-free scones exclusively; yoga studio opened right across the street from my place; new hippie deli (my name for it; it just fits) next door to it that features pressed juices, a wide range of special-diet cookies and pastries... Good heavens, you must have been Tinkerbelling your pixie dust all _over_ this place!

dcorsetto

Oohh right right, that space will be open, I didn't think about it! Naw, this page is a fudging of the old Shaharazade's tea shop, and we'll see the record shop where Wings of Dreams is now. I think you'll be tickled by the dumb fictional alterations I made to Andrew and his shop. ;)

dcorsetto

I'M SORRY I didn't mean to sprinkle it on the coffeeshop, it just fell outta my hands!! The yoga studio, though, that was all my doing.

dcorsetto

THANK YOU FOR NOTICING THAT, crying-down-the-face-emoji

Ruth Merriam

Thank you for not twisting that biscuit cutter! Everything about this vignette is perfection. I can smell the coffee, the flour in the air, feel the silence being broken by her productivity. Then that exhalation as customers take their seats. Just WOW. I think I need to bake something today. Thanks for that. LOL

David Neale-Lorello

My god, Danielle, your ability to capture a gestalt through detail never ceases to amaze me!

Lucy Bellwood

Seriously. I want to yell about the goodness of the STORY but also the technical chops on display here keep pulling me back to yelling about the METHOD. These tiny situational panels overlaid on larger scenes? The specificity of the colors? GOD DAMN GOD DAMN GOD DAMN.

David Neale-Lorello

Ayup. There are great storytellers out there and great artists, but it is so rare to find such deep talents in one person. With Maestra Corsetto, the two synergize: why I fell in love with GWS is her ability to convey complex and nuanced experience in her characters with the simplest technical gestures, like choosing a dot eye over a circle-and-dot or vice versa and, indeed, even the shape of that dot. I'm on the edge of my seat here with ET.

Phillip Ginn

GREAT storytelling! It doesn't even matter what the story is because the storytelling is so good. Love these pages!

Cat

YASSSS 😍

Boum

DANIELLE, these pages are AMAZING

MaryAnne Glazar

Guys, scones are not complicated. Download a recipe, buy some blueberries, and bake some! You can do this. Really. And then you can eat them warm right out of the oven!

Andy Ihnatko

Actually, the yoga studio's space was leased by a hip-hop dance studio last month. Not a _worse_ vibe, not at all -- in fact, I enjoy the fresh energy it's brought to the neighborhood -- but definitely a different one. And a thumpier one.

Andy Ihnatko

You are correct of course. Still, the goal was never Scone Acquisition. It was always the hour or two of lingering over a scone, a phosphoric acid-based carbonated beverage, and the morning newsfeed. Nothing gold can stay, Ponyboy...

dcorsetto

But you still have the "problem" of having to eat them all, especially now while it's frowned upon to share food with friends! (This is why I don't bake often. ;)

dcorsetto

RUTH, I have NO IDEA how to use a biscuit cutter (I didn't even know what it was until I googled it), but I watched THREE. VIDEOS. showing people using them, just for people like you who might notice! So, you're welcome. u_u

dcorsetto

You two are gonna make me blush my FACE OFF

Andy Ihnatko

Haw! True! My sole successful defense against Domestic Oreo Inhalation Syndrome has been to institute a "no sweets inside the house" rule. I appease my (justified) whining with one of the heroic-grade donuts that the Hippie Deli outsources from a Providence shop Saturdays and Sundays.

Andy Ihnatko

YES! This sequence is a brilliant demonstration of the difference between "nobody speaks" and "the images do all of the speaking."

Andy Ihnatko

"EMT service! Where's the patient?" "Thank God! We found her right here on the floor, unconscious!" "(Gene, prepare an IV bag with D5W lactates while I get her vitals) Sir, do you know if she's allergic to anything?" "Uhh.......compliments?" "Yup, bracelet checks out."

Alacrity Fitzhugh

Good for Pip! And your art is quite impressive. More!

Minzoku Bokumetsu

My eyes were drawn to the lights powering on!! and the fact you redrew them, not copy-paste!

Lisa

If you'd asked me to say what sound a fluorescent light makes when it turns on, I don't think I could have said. But "blik blik... bzzzzz" is exactly it.

Ruth Merriam

This is one of the many things that makes you a consummate artist - your eye for detail and the care you put into searching out those details. Just FYI: straight down and up, never twist, if you want your biscuits or scones to rise gloriously in magnificent flaky layers. When you twist the cutter, you tend to seal the edges and impede that vertical lift. I also noticed the rolls of napkins all neatly lined up and the lights on the (I'm guessing) BUNN coffee machine. The gentle care of the two friends coming in for their tea time. Honestly, I could *feel* every moment of these panels. You're a freakin' genius.

Clare K. R. Miller

This is glorious. I'm obsessed with the panel of the fluorescent light turning on. It's just perfect! (And also I want raspberry tea and blueberry scones. Yum.)

Sparkle.Vision

This chapter makes me miss being the opening shift barista. :)
