Hello and happy Sunday! If you're in the States, you're probably groggy from losing an hour of sleep to stupid dumb ol' Daylight Savings Time. I know I am.

I have two (virtual) interns this semester from the school in Denmark, but I barely have anything for them to do, so I'm kinda just giving them customized lessons on things they've wanted to learn more about.

Luckily they wanted to learn more about figure drawing! So I gave them my "heads at odd angles" lesson, and their "homework" this week is to apply the lesson to two of their own characters at each of these five angles:

Drawing the skull at those angles is a super helpful first step. (We'll talk about this in-depth when I teach it via a video lesson.)

I decided to do the homework myself, just to make sure there aren't any kinks in the assignment. I applied it to my own face, because honestly I'm kind of intimidated to do my Elephant Town characters! (Even though I totally should do it, it'd be useful.)

This is a super helpful (and kinda next-level!) practice to get into when you're creating characters for an ongoing comic, because if you work it out BEFORE you have to use it in a panel, you won't spend all day working it out on the page; you'll have this handy cheat sheet to guide you.

Anyway, just thought I'd share my face with you. :)

I can't wait to share these mini lessons here (well, technically, on Zoom). It'll probably happen in April - my March got jam packed with stuff - but here's a teaser of what I'll be teaching (I made silly intro slides for ALL of the lessons I guest-taught for CCS a week ago):

Btw, I'll be guest-hosting Mathew New's online figure drawing session on Wednesday March 31st, which might involve the final CCS lesson I'm working on for this week! I gotta work it out with Mathew first, but if we can make that lesson happen, it might change your life. I know it changed mine when I learned it. :) I'll keep ya posted!

Oooh such a great exercise! I always have trouble with nostrils on the upshots, lol. I really hate noses and draw in styles without as much as possible XD

This is soooo good and helpful! And I love all your teaching title cards so much!

I love that your little nose-free avatar proves your point!

Not gonna lie, drawing those was my FAVORITE PART!
