Wait, so they live next door to each other? Is that how they met or what? Why am I confused by this, I should probably go to bed.

Drazi

So, now that I know it's all one super plex house... How did the name come to be? Also, that's a fantastic comeback! 🥰

D. Alfonso

What a beautifully drawn kiss 🥺 🥰

Dean Reilly

So who made the hole in the fence?

Theadora

Holes happen. 😊

CompaniaHill

(Should that be "A possum" or "An opossum"...?)

Douglas Appelt

Might first thought as well! My brain stumbled over it as I read it. :D

Douglas Appelt

Eww... cigarette kiss! (it's a good thing they *both* smoke, because from a non-smoker's point of view, kissing a smoker is like kissing an ashtray. Yuck. XP

Mark

AFAIK opossums are what you get in North America, and possums are what you get in Australia. Possums don't have the fearsome gape of opossums, but will still wreck your sh*t if you mess with them.

dcorsetto

They're at work! (I know, it's hard to keep up when the story is shared week by week!)

dcorsetto

I learned from Jess Fink, the Kissing Cartoonist Expert!

dcorsetto

OH!! Do people actually pronounce the "o" part? I know there's a difference between the North American opossum and the Australian possum, but I've never heard anyone in the States actually pronounce the first vowel. I'll ask around! In my mind, writing "an opossum" suggests that she's pronouncing it "an uh-possum," so I wanted to keep it phonetically right. (I think no matter which way I write it, it's gonna trip people up!)

dcorsetto

Oh definitely. I hate smoking, it's honestly kinda difficult for me to draw such nice characters smoking... but, highly realistic if you work at a restaurant in this town.

Per Merriam-Webster: In common use, possum is the usual term; in technical or scientific contexts opossum is preferred. Opossum can be pronounced with its first syllable either voiced play or silent play. So, I'd either make it "an opossum" or the more usual (and less confusing) "a possum."

William Cole

They make an excellent palate cleanser after the cringe-feast that is Paul.

dcorsetto

A possum is a different animal (they're not even related, it turns out!), so I want to keep the spelling accurate for all the pedants out there (including myself). I'm thinking maybe spell it like 'possum <-- to show that there IS supposed to be an o in the spelling, but it's being pronounced without. Personally, if I read "an opossum" in a comic book, I'd assume the person is pronouncing it "an uh-possum" (because you don't need the "an" otherwise), which... nobody says that out here. We just say 'possum. Thoughts?

Joanna

That makes much more sense. I thought that at first, but the areas look so much like the backyard of a home that I doubted myself.

Joanna

I like apostrophe idea

dcorsetto

That also makes sense; the backs of most of the restaurants in town are also residences, and even if they aren't, they look like they are. :)

Andy Ihnatko

Solid Pyramus and Thisby reference, dude...

Minzoku Bokumetsu

I'm inclined to say LEAVE IT bc absolutely no one has 100% perfect grammar in spoken dialogue, realistically, and "uh ah passum" is absolutely something someone would say somewhere I guarantee

Just as long as Danielle doesn't have them do the Midsummer Night's Dream version with Paul creepily trying to stand in for Tom Snout as "Wall..." - - Neal

sw000000000nnnnnnn My heart is so full and both tight and light right now. ty

I love their banter, and solidly salute you for your efforts on the fencing. I can't believe the detail you've added to a chain-link fence, and think it was well worth a day's wait! Edited to add that, as an Australian, I had no idea the first syllable in opossum was not pronounced. In my head, I've always read it 'oh-possum'. Lesson learned/learnt!

dcorsetto

Oohh interesting!! Yeah, it's one of those words that I think Americans trip over when we see it spelled (well, I did anyway). And I have to fess up, while I started hand-drawing the chain-link fence, I finally realized that separating the hand-drawn version from the inks was going to take a whole day, which wasn't worth the trouble. So I altered a photo of a fence with a hole in it, and warped it and bent it to fit each panel. The originals will have hand-drawn fences on them, which I think will make them a little more special to own. :)
