Small Press Expo (SPX, in Bethesda, MD) is in less than a month!! It'll be my first convention in three years and, suddenly, I have this whole new project I've been working on quietly with no convention presence.

So today I'm planning out table decorations.

I'm splitting a table with Babs New, so I'll only have 3 feet for a pile of GIGANTIC GWS compendiums and to promote Elephant Town in an intriguing way.

So, I'm thinking four square business cards - one of each main character. Plus the  postcards I already made up, the ones that call Elephant a "long, slow tale" because it seemed like a good idea to me at the time. ;)

(I probably won't make a one-off printed book of the first 12 chapters, because that's a lot of work for something people can just read online.)

Will any of you be at SPX?

Well I *would* have gone but I finally talked DH into a trip to Quebec City that weekend. Have fun!

dcorsetto

Ahh bummer, except not, because that sounds like a lovely time to be up in QC!

Monica Gallagher

I'm into these cute cards! But I also don't see anything wrong with maybe printing a few pages off? Cut to 2003 Monica who had a binder with printouts of her webcomic, LOLLLLLL

dcorsetto

AHAHAHA I did about the same thing with GWS!! Printed-at-home stapled "samples" of the strip! I was considering just bringing a few pages, but 3 feet of space is SO small. I dunno. I have the first like 100 pages printed and sleeved in a binder! It's SO heavy, but I might bring it anyway....

Monica Gallagher

I know, I keep forgetting it's only 3 feet this year! Totally haven't planned for that, haha. And of course you've already Corsetto Bindered it! That's the level of preparation I expect from you!

dcorsetto

You've got a full table, actually! (I think?? Am I wrong?!) I got a half-table because I felt like I didn't have enough to fill a full table! (Lol Corsetto Bindered it!! You know I've got the Boo Binder sitting here to my right...)

Monica Gallagher

Nope, I've got a half table because they were so overwhelmed this year! Awww the Boo Binder! <3

dcorsetto

Aw I feel a little less alone in the Tiny Table Club now! <3

Amy Crook

I won't be there, but I love your choices for the cards!

David Neale-Lorello

😫😭😫😭 I was really excited about going this year, then thoughtlessly booked a trip conflicting with it!!! Have fun and give my regards to Ignatz!

dcorsetto

Aahhh what a bummer, it would've been great to see you! Have fun on your own trip, though!

NJGR

Okay, what is a mask microphone and where did you find it?? -j

NJGR

Also, won't be at SPX, but I voted for the Ignatz and am set.

dcorsetto

Aw that's so cool that you voted!! I forgot that they opened it up this year. :) I'm just looking for options to be able to amplify my voice through a mask. I think I found something!!

dcorsetto

It ain't SPX without a Rhode trip!!

Cathi Andrews

Since you wrote about printed versions of the ET, I assume there's too much of a risk in having a tablet flipping through the chapters? WOuld be big space saver.

dcorsetto

I've definitely considered that! I have an old iPad I could load it up on...

NJGR

Did your voice amplification work?! I am so curious about what you ended up doing and how well it worked for you! -Jess

dcorsetto

It did! The only tricky part was that people thought I was on a phone call, ha! I drew a little drawing of myself to go behind the speaker, explaining that it's just MY VOICE and I'm not on a call. I think I'd need to get one with a wireless headset if I were to do it again; the wires were tricky to work around. And honestly, I wound up being fine without it the second day, to my pleasant surprise.
