I hate that I can only do two pages at a time right now, but I guess it gives you the opportunity to wonder what Lana wonders about. ;)

(Way to dodge the question, Kris!)

A new yoga studio opened up in Shepherdstown and the owner's name is Lona, and I'm wondering how fast I need to assure her that Lana is NOT based her. (Or, maybe Lona will be down to share a flask at a tea shop, and Lana WILL become based on her.)

This is your one-week-countdown reminder that I'll be at Small Press Expo this weekend! Table K13. If you're in the DC area, come down for a day, it's one of my favorite (weird and art-centered) comic shows!

Laura J Testa-Reyes

If she reads this, but if she doesn't, you are home free.

Stephanie Harlow

Didn’t she have like a class to teach in an hour

dcorsetto

In any other place I'd agree, but this town is tiny and a surprising number of locals read this comic! (*waves to neighbors*)

Andy Ihnatko

Hmm. She teaches yoga two days a week as her sole income, but she has plenty of money for lunches at nice little places like this one? Is there a chance that Lana's answer to the longstanding question "where do you put your breasts?" is "on OnlyFans"? (NO SHAME good for her if that's what she wants and it's working out!)

Iitu Ducin

Do I just have a short attention span or are we missing part of the conversation here? How do they go from tea to houses?

Brooks Moses

We are, yes. It's hard to see in this format, but that gap in the conversation occurs over the page break, so I think it's an "a bit of time passes between one page and the next" sort of thing, and the way they got from tea to houses is some way that didn't include anything important to the plot. :)

Joanna

She also just mentioned a husband, and I don't recall any references to her being divorced or widowed, so it seems likely he works as well.

Dean Reilly

She's not wearing a wedding ring - alimony, maybe?

Meisterj

Liquor in tea is always nice. I look forward to making a hot toddy soon Heads up, in the second page, second panel, their hands are brown

Boum

Bummed out I won't be sharing a SPX table with you this year! Have fun!!

dcorsetto

If this story goes in that direction, it is entirely your fault.

dcorsetto

^ What Brooks said. I really wanted to post these pages 3 at a time so that they would be separated at natural breaks, in which case I think it would have read more clearly that Kris is avoiding the "what kind of books do you translate" question, and some time has passed in between when Lana pulls a flask out of her purse and when they start talking about houses.

dcorsetto

I was wondering how that read! I wanted to just have a monochrome/silhouetted look to their hands, but maybe they're still light enough that it reads weird?

dcorsetto

Me tooooo I loved having you here!! <3

dcorsetto

*animated hand-waving and picking up of a pen to scribble "GO BACK AND DRAW LANA'S RING" on the to-do list* I need to give all of you patrons an editor credit in the book.

Meisterj

I think in part the bg tone feels close to the silhouette like it's an under painting not a silhouette. I thought it might be but I'm used to silhouette being black

dcorsetto

I'll noodle with it in the final version; thanks for your feedback, J!

Ruth Merriam

I'm not sure if I'm getting a big sister vibe or a hitting-on vibe, but I'm sure as hell getting a bad tingle from that flask. Too many alcoholics in my past, I guess. Something just creeped me tf out in that last panel.

Amy Crook

lots of people who use their hands don't wear their rings, my housemate doesn't... maybe she sheds the big rock on yoga days ;)

Ben Hatke

I think the voices over finished plates worked beautifully.

Ben Hatke

This might be one of my favorite scenes so far. It's full of that feeling of social uncertainty, which is so real.

dcorsetto

Taken from the real life of a forty-something. ;)

Andy Ihnatko

Good point. When someone has a flask with them on what's just an ordinary day, that seems...significant.

Andy Ihnatko

Couldn't resist the easy joke. :)

Bingewatch Improv

I'm very much getting a seduction vibe from Lana. Unicorn hunting?

Tim Pendergast

You don't meet many women who carry a flask or maybe just I don't.

Dean Reilly

Just wondering- is Lana meant to be about the same age as Kris? Or older?

dcorsetto

I'll just say Lana's "yoga older" than Kris. If you've ever met a yoga teacher, you know they don't age at the same rate. ;)
