I've been doing Hourly Comic Day all day (I'll post them soon!), but three hours of my day will be recorded as doing THIS.

Five minute poses!

I did a pretty involved ink-and-pencil sketch for the first 25 minutes of our long pose, before jumping into paints. Tbh, it was my favorite of the night:

The watercolor paper I brought was MUCH smaller than I thought it was... so the pencil study wound up being TWICE the size of the final painting. Let's pretend that's some brilliant ancient method that only I know about.

I remembered to take photos as I worked! Yay memory!

Final!

Still having a hard time not muddying everything by the end.

A few more closeups:

Back to hourly comics for me. Can't wait to show you how boring my life is! <3

I was avoiding responsibilities and watching tutorials the other day, and apparently the secret to not-mud is letting the paint layer fully dry (no longer cold to back of hand dry) before going again

(tbh i will never, ever be patient enough unless i leave things overnight so no judgement from me, both teachers suggested a hairdryer which i don't actually own)

Ooo good tip, thanks Amy!! Yeah, I guess I should dial it back a bit on my expectations for a watercolor that's done QUICKLY, with a live model!

The first and last steps in that painting are equally lovely for different reasons. It goes to show how solid your linework is!
