When I heard which model we had tonight, I asked Michael and Tim if they'd like to do a long pose instead of short poses tonight (a rarity from me, always a YES from them). I wanted to do a big ol' watercolor and take my time on it.

Five-minute warmups first!

I did a pencil sketch of the pose first, and a few rounds of her face, before I realized I should scootch over to the left a bit for a more interesting angle.

And I remembered to take progress photos of the painting this time!

Outlining the figure in brush was the most time-consuming part, but I'm trying to improve my brush skills, so it was worth the practice.

I really struggled to get some color into each section of the body; even a long pose wasn't long enough for me to get everything down! In my defense, it was a big sheet of paper.

A coupla closeups:

This was a super fun one for me! I'm realizing that the addition of the vivid Derwent Inktense to my regular old watercolor set is a perfect combination - any of the more striking colors you see are Inktense, but I was able to balance them with the muddier colors I usually use.

This was painted on a Blick cold press 140 lb watercolor block, by the way. Good paper, I'll use it again for sure!
