It's my favorite daaaaay!!

The thing I've taken for granted the most about my body is how FLEXIBLE it is. I have a pal in my yoga class, a big strong dude who taught me that strength (which he has, but I don't) often challenges a person's flexibility (which I have, but he doesn't). I was born bending like an elastic band, and that's something i need to remind myself to be grateful for. (Thought it'd be a lot more useful to be strong, imo!)

We spent the day after Thanksgiving just cuddling on the couch. I forget that sometimes I'm allowed to do nothing and not berate myself for it. Luke's good at reminding me. (So is Pip.)

I'm so mad about this dumb butt-ruche! I always have to check myself when someone might see me: "IS MY RUCHE COVERED?? DON'T LET YOUR RUCHE SHOW!"

It took me well into my twenties before I was able to red-flag people who gave off drama-vibes. I feel a little petty putting this person on blast (I never replied to him, I guess I shouldn't?), but searching for our history put me into a rabbit hole of examining my old life, when everyone I love lived closer. Luckily I've doubled down on developing friendships in my own zip code the last few years, or else it might've stung more.

I'll be thinking about this a lot for the next few weeks! I definitely want to keep up my daily practice, but maybe snazz it up a bit? I think #1 - taking prompts and questions from y'all - would be the way to go. There are some mornings that I sit there uninspired (see: the spice rack comic), when it'd be more fun to have a small container of patron prompts next to me to pull from.

Perhaps I'll roll it into the $3 level, since we won't have any story polls again for awhile. :)

Fennel was born & grew up on my friends Jon & Amanda's back porch, where all the alley cats are fed and watered by them. Her brother still lives over there. Okay that's an understatement; I'd guess that she has a dozen half-siblings over there. I'm not sure what her kittenhood was like, but Jon & Amanda are great cat-lovers so I bet it was warm and cozy.

If you know me, you may already know that I repurpose as much packing material as possible. So most of your orders will be wrapped in pages from an old GWS book, and all of your orders will no doubt have at least one cat hair in them.

Thanks a bunch to everyone who ordered this week! I still haven't heard about Secret Project, so I 'll keep the store open this weekend, but if you want anything, you'll do well to order it sooner than later, in case I finally get the OK to start working.

I'll be packing and shipping for another several days, but I'll mark your orders as shipped once they're out!

Team no ruche butts!

David Neale-Lorello

If I can say this without being creepy, you have the kind of body I've always wanted: slim and flexible. I was slim when I was young, but have gotten more or less steadily, uhm, "softer" as I have gotten older and I've never been flexible, even when I was young. These days I'm working to reclaim "fat" as an empowerment, just as I've reclaimed "queer." But your comic illustrates (pardon the pun) that most of us struggle to be okay with the bodies we come in. Thanks, as always, for your tender generosity. ❤️

Drazi

Team... What is a ruche?

NJGR

I'm on Team Pip Comics! I'm so glad that Fennel found you as a safe place to land. Rosie is still skittish about sudden movements, too, but she has her own pillow on the bed that seems to feel safe to her. Anxious cats just need to be able to find what works for them, but they need someone willing to give them that time and space. 💙 - jess

Oh dang, the 'most everyone I care for is far away/ busy' sentiment hits home for me big-time. What's been your practice to making friends in the same zip code? I always feel so stuck when trying to figure out how to shift a connection from 'acquaintance' into the genuine 'friendship' territory. Everyone including me is always so busy, feels challenging to give those acquaintance seedlings the time and attention they need to blossom into a full grown friendship trees.

I didn't know cat hair was a repurposable¹ packing material. I learn something new every day. ¹ Yes, spellcheck, "repurposable" is now a word; I just said so.

Patricia Rodriguez

My Sansa cat is very similar to your Fennel. She was the smaller of her siblings. (We know this because we also adopted her BIG brother Jon Snow. And yeah, we were GOT nerds when we adopted them. LOL! ) I love you are such a safe person for her and that she has her space with you. That one hit me in the feels. :D

I haven't bought (everyday) clothes in literal YEARS, partly due to COVID, but mostly bc I hate clothes shopping more than I hate the clothes I have (which comes and goes, how much I hate them) Luckily, I have managed to find enough ladies' work pants that have POCKETS and DON'T have ugly fasteners that I will put up with the fact at least one pair rides up my shins and makes me look like I've hiked my pants up to my armpits like a grandpa (mind you, some of those are elastic waists that no longer... elast due to weight loss, so I have to wear a belt AROUND ELASTIC PANTS)

Keep on keepin' on! I miss ET, but your Dailies serve a need in my own funky life (as in "how to be a graphic novel-creator" ;) ). I've finally started inking the next chapter of my own epic (with 29 pages of roughs, it's time to get cracking ...) The insights of Pip and Fennel inspired me to change my avatar: that's "Lamar" when he was but a foundling!

dcorsetto

Aww Lamar! What a great name!! HELL YEAH GIRL 29 pages of roughs is amazing! GET IT!!

dcorsetto

I can't wait to see the team logo for this!

dcorsetto

I was about to tell you to "google it" but googling "ruche" or even "rouche" gives you vastly different results! Look up "ruched butt leggings!"

Drazi

I ...see. _hides back under rock_

It's HARD and it has to just come naturally! I started two small events: a DnD campaign, and an Art Night every Monday night. Art Night has been a HUGE hit! Two of my now-closest friends were strangers to me when it started, but a mutual pal told them they should introduce themselves and come to my house on Mondays. (They're actually the cat-care couple I mentioned above, Jon & Amanda.) But, it does take time, too. It's a combination of regularly scheduled get-togethers (even easier when it's more than just two people), and not forcing anything. Good luck! It's hard for all of us after our 20s!

dcorsetto

I can never tell if emoticon hearts show up in the comments (they disappear when I send them), so please imagine a line of them here.

dcorsetto

I'm sorry that you can not unsee!!

Drazi

I don't believe you 🤣

Katrina Urmson

If it matters, I liked the spice rack one. Reminded me of my parents’ one that dad sorta repurposed out of a changing table he had made (the rest of the changing table turned into a multimedia rack for the TV and stuff). One of my sisters had it, last I checked.

Dirk Bergstrom

I have been really enjoying the daily comics. I'm fine with keeping them as they are, but if you genuinely want to fancy them up or vary the tone I'm also happy to see where that takes you.

Underpants and Overbites

I love packing orders! I have a whole closet of used packing material. The lumpier it looks when I send it in the mail, the better :)

Hedgebug

The "friends in your zip code" sentiment hits home here too. I'm utterly unable to maintain friendships at long distance, so out of college I started a weekly dinner party to maintain friendships. Friends would cycle in and out as they moved or I met new people. 2020 disrupted that pretty hard, and by now I have an entirely different set of dinner guests every week from when I started. Every so often though, someone will be traveling through my city and make an appearance after being absent for years. Some friendships don't seem to decay with distance and time!

Keith Bass

Love the daily about Fennel. Quite touching.

TinaFoo Spencer

All of our cats have always been rescues, so I too wonder if they dream of softer kitten times. Related: cat hair and cat nibbles on shipping packages is definitely the way to go! Not entirely related, Finn finally fits in Admiral Analogs hoodie you sent once upon a time and I’m having problems prying it off of him in order to wash it! He says he loves obscure references that no one who sees him will get! 🤣

Steve Boyko

I have nothing to add to the conversation except that I love these dailies. Please keep doing them.

Indira

I feel like ruche butts look kinda weird on every body, even on big butts…

Pete Jordan

You only ever get the one, so fighting it or being agin it isn't going to get you far! Not everyone can be Jaime and yours (as far as I can tell from the very few photos I've seen) looks good from the outside, also flexible is good for dancing 💃 Celebrate your physicality as it is and *never* apologise for it.

Susy

Please keep doing the dailies! I love them. They are this great little sneak peak into your life and personality, and it feels like a grown-up GWS story all at the same time.

Ryan Walker

I was largely going to say what David said, though I did have excellent flexibility as a youth. I would much rather have the rib-showing, flexible body I thought was 20 lbs underweight than the one I have 30 years later. It was a be-careful-what-you-wish-for scenario.

Theadora

I'm joining the chorus of "I like the dailies", and if you want to change it up a little, maybe try "Draw the first thing [bird/cat/car ;-)] you see each day."

dcorsetto

OMG!!!!! Hahaha that kid was the perfect recipient of that hoodie!!

dcorsetto

Aww a grown-up GWS story! I love that. :)
