Exciting changes here at Unlimited Realms! (Patreon)

Hey everyone! I know we have been quiet for some time here on Patreon. This has been due to our work on Gobbers and honestly, a bit of a mental health (and physical health) breakdown. However it has give me a chance to evaluate what the future of Unlimited Realms looks like and what sort of amazing new TTRPG content I can produce for you on a consistent and maintainable basis with our new circumstances (more on that in a moment)

Gobbers Guide

First of all those waiting on Gobbers, the book is pretty much done, we are just waiting for the final designs from our graphic designer, who said it should be with us this week. This means we should have the final digital version sent out to everyone late next week! We are still facing big hurdles on the physical release, which I will be updating everyone about through the Kickstarter updates page, expect a big update late next week when the Digital version goes out.

Whatever happened to Unlimited Realms

So before looking ahead, I wanted to give a rough overview of what has been happening to us lately. First of all, we have had a number of issues with Gobbers Guide (again, please head over to the Kickstarter pages for all the details: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/unlimitedrealmsltd/the-all-new-gobbers-guide-to-hearth-and-home )

I (Mat) have also faced a number of challenges. At the beginning of the year, I was kicked out of my home, having to move back in with family, which destroyed my mental health and my ability to function as well as create. This all caused me to fail in looking after myself properly and allowed my health to take a dive bomb, causing me to end up in hospital a lot and at one point almost die. Now I hasten to say I have been on the road to recovery since then and my health is looking worlds apart from that point now, and while I am still living with family, I have made a number of massively positive improvements to my life and I am on the up.

Additionally during this happening, my partner in crime Dave has also faced his own housing challenges, and most importantly (and incredibly excitingly!) his wife has given birth to his second child. The whole family is healthy and happy, but it does mean that Dave's life has become a lot busier and looking after his family has had to be number one, which I would have no other way. This does mean that he has had to step back from Unlimited Realms quite a bit. Now, he is still working with me when he can and provides what support possible, but it does mean that creating content has become solely down to myself, this was what caused many of the Gobbers delays and why there has not been much capacity to work on much else.

Now I won't lie. With this last year, there has been a not so significant part of me that wanted to step away, with my day job as a professional video editor also becoming more stressful, the extra workload has been tough to manage. However, creating TTRPG content for all of you has been the one constantly shining light for me during these times. Even in my darkest moments, going back and seeing your support, the reactions to the stuff we have created, had me sobbing with tears of joy. However, with this change in dynamic, things cannot continue as they were. Changes must be made.

The Future

So what now? Well firstly, for the foreseeable future, we will not be making any other kickstarters. Kickstarters must be big projects, that consist of months, even years of work that include logistics and upfront costs that we just cannot manage anymore. The last two we have done have faced significant delays (with the physical copy of Gobbers probably not being shipped until well into next year). I hate letting people down, and while I believe and love the products we give to people at the end of them, the year of that guilt for delays has been killing me. So, while we will be doing Kickstarters in collaboration with others, (Our team up with Gemhammer Games is still planned for sometime in the new year, https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/gemhammer/chest-of-wonders) Solo projects will for now be shelved until I know we can deliver them confidently.

Which brings us back to Patreon. This thing right here! We will be moving to Patreon model. This means we will be releasing content monthly, a Minimum of 5 magic items a month and one giant monster, or a group of smaller related monsters coming each month. Some months there will be more, but never less. We will also be providing access to older kickstarter projects (over two years after release). In addition we will also be contributing and sharing a monthly packet made with some of the biggest and most accomplished TTRPG creators out there right now, led by the ever incredible Deven Rue.

The Magisterial Society of Expeditionists

The Magisterial Society of Expeditionists is a new group of creatives we have joined, including the likes of Deven Rue, Cait May, Hailiiz, WanderingDM and more that have experience in creating content for Wizards of the Coast, Critical Role and Dimension 20. Every month, we will be sharing a packet, that will be a digital "setting in a box". It will have maps, artwork and lore that will allow DMs to instantly have a well realized location that they can share with their friends. The packs will be system agnostic, so can be used in any games you are running (although I will be creating 5e rules for all items and characters I have a hand in creating for the packet that will be provided here on my patreon). The first packet will be going live in January, I cannot wait to share what we've all been working on!
