This is the start of Flo's Fundamentals! In this series I'll be showing different fundamental subjects. Pieces of the puzzle you can use in your digital paintings. In this first class we'll be covering clouds!

In the first part of the video, I'll talk about the theory. How can we observe clouds? What are characteristics of clouds and what do we need to keep in mind when painting them?

In the second part of the video, I'll be doing a demonstration and show you how I approach painting clouds. I've attached the reference image I have used for this demonstration. Flo's Fundamentals: Painting Clouds

In this 1 hour video I will show you how you can approach painting clouds in Procreate. I'll start out with some theory, how should you observe clouds and what do you need to think about when painting them? In the second part of the video I'll do a demonstration and show you how I approach painting clouds.

Fundamentals - what a great idea! I am very excited to view these lessons. Used to draw a lot in my teens, but as a wife and mother life interfered. I did do a some drawing when I worked in a stained glass studio, but that is VASTLY different. Ouff I'm having hella trouble using the color palette, I'm looking when you put it in the pallet and trying to use the same but I guess you reorganized at the end? Got so far using what I thought was the right color but turned out to be the one used for something else entirely :D now I know it's not super duper important and I can just lighten/darken a color myself but that defeats the purpose a bit of having the palette to work with.

I’ve had this issue w clouds in the past but also to this day quite literally! I painted a sketch of clouds a couple of days ago. Well more like sketched and shaded the clouds using graphite pencil textures. It was a night scene where the moon was half covered by the clouds sk it was quite difficult. It made it easier doing it digitally on the ipad but I def still understand the struggle!!

Great tutorial but clearly a little too ahead for my skill set. I think painting a simple cloud like the one you used in your technical section of this tutorial would have been a little easier to replicate. Unfortunately, I'll have to drop this one for later. :(

You can practice painting single clouds first, keeping all the characteristics in mind. You can build it up the same way as I painted the full sky with clouds. I'd start pretty dark, build up the lights and add color variation in your cloud.

I found this one is super hard to follow. I tried it twice and have to give up. Maybe having some sketches first will be helpful.

You can also start with some smaller single clouds. But don't worry, clouds are challenging, it might take some time to get the hang of painting them

Ohmygod, Flo, these clouds are stunning! The demonstration you did showing the de-saturation of the cloud example, to show how blue common cloud formations really are, was mind blowing to see! I can totally picture a mythological creature rising up out of your artwork 😃 Like a Pegasus, a dragon 🐉 maybe some kind of other worldly creature, like a cosmic space whale 🐋 that eats clouds for nutrients 😄

Hi Flo, love the tutorials. I’m struggling with some of the palettes. Fur and Cloud only download as zip files. Water works well along with the other free tutorial palettes. Any help would be great!

I found a work around. I had to download on my phone and send it to my iPad 🤷🏻‍♀️

Sometimes devices or programs think the .swatches files are zip files and unzip them while they shouldn't. I'm happy you found a work around.
