Alright, I'm starting with the good here! Because there is a lot of good. Once again, the heart of this film was that strange, chaotic, yet vulnerable bond between Eddie and Venom. I absolutely love their dynamic. It's magnetic, messy, and oddly tender lol. It's almost a bit frightening how naturally Tom Hardy embodies that unhinged energy. Like he is playing two sides of the same fracture mirror. Watching this movie, I felt less of those "superhero antics" vibes and more about the loneliness of living with yourself. And learning to accept your own baggage when you'd rather lock it away. Then there is Woody Harrelson! He made this villain feel so chaotically unsettling! The way he could shift from an almost innocent grin to a dead-eye stare and back to that unnerving twisty smile was pure talent. Chilling and disturbing. But TALENT. His performance gave this film such a jagged edge feel that kept me hooked even when the chaos got a bit too wild. Now for the 'meh'. This film was like the last when it comes to the plot lines. They definitely felt a bit shattered and rushed. Threads were introduced, some rushed, some half-baked, and while eventually they all collided together, it never felt completely cohesive for some reason. I think that there was just too much going on to allow the incredible characters have their room to breathe. But even with its flaws, I still enjoyed it! Like the last, there is something oddly captivating about Eddie and Venom's co-dependency. That push and pull between monster and man. Freedom and restraint. Loneliness and connection. For me, this was a messy, darkly funny love story. And I can appreciate it for that!Next up in the Superhero Odyssey: Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten RingsSee you all there!

The Dingo

Yay I can return to the odyssey next week! (sorry) EDIT: if I renew my Disney sub before then

Jacob

This one definitely felt more self aware then Venom 1. You can tell they leaned into the goof, and I like it. I think the best part of the venom movies is eddie and venom's dynamic, and this one has a lot of that,

KJ

Shang Chi is probably the most underrated movie in the MCU.

rubberkidney

when i read your movie wrapups i can literally see your highschool book reports. i can tell you were a good student.

The Amazing Webhead

I’m gonna watch the video soon but it happy you were entertained with this one. The sequels do start to embrace the goofy/ridiculous aspects of these movies which can be a hit or miss for some. Like I mentioned before but Venom comics can be dark or very over the top. It’s my favorite of the trilogy because I love Carnage even if it wasn’t the best version of the character. Also again the heart of these films are the bond between Eddie & Venom. Without it, these movies would be complete meh. You got to meet Carnage who is one of the most iconic Marvel villains. Anytime someone see Venom or Carnage merchandise, people recognize it even if they never read the books or watch the cartoons. Carnage was one of the main reasons Venom became a good guy in the comics. Everything they talked about with Cletus backstory is from the comics. He’s that insane. In the comics, Cletus and Eddie were cellmates because Spider-Man was able to separate Eddie & Venom. The symbiote broke Eddie out of prison but it left its offspring which bonded with Cletus becoming Carnage. Carnage went on a killing spree and Spider-Man wasn’t strong enough to take him out on his own so he formed an uneasy alliance with Venom to stop him. After they defeated Carnage, Peter & Venom made a truce and Venom moved to San Fransisco to become an anti-hero. With comics, no villain is fully gone as Carnage does keep returning and cause problems to Peter & Eddie over the years.

Is it? Everyone I know really really loves it. Also it's critically acclaimed.

I don’t know about externals BUT Shang Chi is definitely great one of the better new MCU movies imo. Completely different vibe I’m also pretty sure most people loved or liked that movie the CGI and animations were beautiful in it. I’ve seen it get praised among the better MCU movies in general. I think you’ll love it tbh can’t wait

Kali, whenever you watch the MCU movies in the midst of your other movies, have you heard of this short series on Disney+ called Marvel's Legends? Whenever a new MCU movie or show was released (2020-2023), Marvel's Legends basically recaps the characters premiered in it. So if you want, you can watch you can check em out off screen or on right before your next MCU watch. That being said, if Shang-Chi is next, it's HIGHLY recommended beforehand that you watch #1) Marvel Legends: The Ten Rings episode (6 minutes), and #2) Marvel's One-Shot: All Hail The King (14 minutes), both on Disney+. Cause Shang-Chi's story actually begins WAAAAY from in the beginning of the MCU (during a few Iron Man movies). Shang-Chi is VERY great though. Amazing fights, awestruck and funny scenes, and wonderful music. It's, such a beautiful film. 🥹 Knowing you, ik you'll like it. (And yes, I understand the Venom movies were meh, but I still enjoy Venom and Eddie in them the most.) And, about Eternals… other than that, I think when Shang-Chi and Eternals were released back to back, the MCU was probably trying to introduce mythical genres in origin stories that didn't work out too well overall. Especially Eternals because too many new characters (the team) and universal concepts were introduced. (I only like the film because I knew who the characters were from their mythology counterparts, and my favorite goddess is in it, Athena.) (So you don't have to watch that one onscreen if ya want, despite one late MCU movie requiring you to watch it.)

Daniel Morgan

That's the main reason I like those movies tbh. 😂

Daniel Morgan

Except there's one scene in the movie who's CGI mishaps will forever haunt me for the rest of my life. 😭

KJ

I've never seen it get praised among the Iron Man's, Caps, Thors, Guardians etc. It's viewed as lesser when it has a lot to offer.

McShades

I enjoyed the first Venom but didn't really like this one. It was kind of all over the place.

M1 Maz

These Venom movies are so stupid that they're good LOL. But good not like in the amazing movie type, but like good on a Friday night to just sit here with some apple cider donuts and laugh at the absurdity hahaha. I had fun with this! And I think it's another one of those that ends up being even better watching along with your reaction and both laughing more *at* the movie than with it LOL. I also wonder how different my relationship with the Venom movies would be if Tom Hardy wasn't the lead! Also, they really brought your favorites together in this movie with a classic Mustang and a Ducati hahaha

kaliwali

Yeah, the Eddie/Venom dynamic is what keeps these movies enjoyable for me too!

kaliwali

Yeah, I've seen a lot of comments saying to skip "Shang-Chi" and "Eternals"! I'm excited to see them both tho :)

kaliwali

LOL I barely scraped by in high school and got close to being held back for skipping/absences 😅

kaliwali

I can see why this is your favorite of them because you love the eddie/venom bond so much! It was definitely much stronger and deeper in this one. The scene with Venom at a rave finding himself amongst people 'like him' was such an awesome speech about loneliness and how it can feel to not be yourself. I was really surprised at how much that softened Venom in my eyes haha. And I really loved it for that and the dark tragic love humor between Cletus and Shriek :) Thanks for sharing your thoughts! I hope you enjoyed this with me!

kaliwali

I'm excited to see Shang-Chi after seeing the comments here now!

kaliwali

I loooove your hype for this MCU timeline! Thank you so much for the info!

kaliwali

I feel that, too! Still enjoyable, but I loved Venom more!

kaliwali

"Ooh, racer red. Got to have it." Is one of my new favorite quotes 🤣❤️

kaliwali

I get it! I feel the same about this second one. Still entertaining but something just didn't hit lol

The Amazing Webhead

Just finished the reaction! Great video. The post credit scene was probably one of the first times in years where I got excited in a post credits scene. I remember sitting up when it happened. Lol So without spoilers but Venom did mention to Eddie in the scene that his species have a hive mind that spans to universes so this Venom never met Spider-Man but he knows about him through memories of other versions of himself in other timelines that fought a Peter Parker which is why he said “That guy”. Traditionally in most timelines like you saw in Tobey’s Spider-Man 3, Peter bonds with the symbiote first but rejects it as it corrupts him. Then it bonds with Eddie who also hates Spidey and they became Venom. Also this is after Far From Home when Mysterio revealed MCU Peter’s identity & people think he’s a murderer.

rubberkidney

ooh reformed(?) bad girl, even better.

FigLeaf Bicarbonate

Eternals I understand but Shang Chi is one of the best in the MCU imo.

Dude Longcouch

I don't think much of these movies tbh but I'm always in for Woody Harrelson. What did you think of his Carnage performance? Hopefully you get to see him and Matthew McConaughey in True Detective soon, two absolute acting clinics.
